When I’m craving meat, I really don’t think there’s anything better than samgyeopsal (grilled pork belly). This time, my friend and I were looking for somewhere in Jeonju’s Sinsigaji where we could have a relaxed meal together, so we went to Mongyudo.

Mongyudo is a Korean barbecue place in Jeonju’s Sinsigaji where both the pork belly and pork neck are delicious, and the staff grill everything for you, so I always leave having eaten comfortably. Let me introduce Mongyudo Sinsigaji Branch (몽유도 신시가지점)!
Parking and location at Mongyudo Sinsigaji Branch
It is at 47 Hongsanjungang-ro, Wansan-gu, Jeonju, and is open daily from 4 p.m. to midnight.

This Korean barbecue restaurant in Jeonju’s Sinsigaji is near the provincial government complex. It is a three-minute walk from the complex and about three minutes from the Starbucks intersection too, so it was really easy to get to.
Mongyudo’s exterior and interior in Jeonju’s Sinsigaji
Exterior

This is the exterior of Mongyudo, a Korean barbecue restaurant in Jeonju’s Sinsigaji. There are so many barbecue places around Sinsigaji, but Mongyudo stood out because it has a slightly different feel from a typical one.

It specializes in low-temperature-aged meat, so it looked like a nice place for a date or a meal with friends too.
Interior
This is the inside of the Korean barbecue restaurant in Jeonju’s Sinsigaji. With its clean wood tones and thoughtfully finished interior, it was somewhere I could enjoy a meal in a good mood.

There are also private-room-style group tables farther inside, so I think it would be good for gatherings as well.

What comes with the Mongyudo two-person set?
The meat was so delicious that I got completely distracted by it and forgot to take a photo of the menu ㅠㅠㅠ

Since there were two of us, we ordered the Mongyudo two-person set. It comes with aged pork belly, aged pork neck, and a meal dish, making it a nice amount of meat for two people.

For the set meal, you can choose between doenjang sulbap (rice in soybean paste soup) and kimchi stew.

I chose kimchi stew and added an order of steamed egg too, haha.

Once we ordered, the basic side dishes were set out neatly. There were several dishes that went well with the meat, so it was nice to pair them according to what we liked.

When I eat meat, I like places that offer lots of sauces and accompaniments. Mongyudo in Jeonju’s Sinsigaji also let us try the meat in many different combinations, which made the meal even tastier.

It was good simply dipped in salt, but pairing it with other accompaniments changed the flavor of the same meat little by little, so I didn’t get tired of it right to the end.

Staff-grilled pork belly and pork neck
The food at Mongyudo in Jeonju’s Sinsigaji was delicious, but what I especially loved was that the staff grill all the meat for you.

At Mongyudo, a staff member grills the meat, so it was much easier to eat comfortably when there were just two of us. As the meat began to cook on the grill, that savory aroma rose up—ah, it really felt like we had come to a barbecue restaurant.

The pork belly in particular was nicely thick, so it had a great texture once grilled. The outside was golden and the inside stayed moist, making it rich and delicious.

The pork neck was leaner than the pork belly, with a different charm of its own.

Alternating between the pork belly and pork neck gave us different textures and flavors, so this was a well-rounded set that let two people enjoy a variety of meat.

The meat was so good that I just kept eating. The kimchi stew and steamed egg we ordered on the side were tasty too, so we really left feeling full.
A relaxed Korean barbecue meal with a friend in Jeonju’s Sinsigaji
After trying the two-person set at Mongyudo, what I liked most was not only the flavor of the meat but also how relaxed the whole meal was. At barbecue restaurants, you can often end up busily grilling the meat yourself while trying to eat, but here the staff cooked it for us, so we could sit comfortably and talk while we ate.
That makes this a Korean barbecue restaurant in Jeonju’s Sinsigaji I’d recommend for a comfortable meat meal, whether it is a date for two, dinner with a friend, or a family outing.
Besides the two-person set, Mongyudo Sinsigaji Branch currently has meat options such as bone-in pork belly, low-temperature-aged pork belly, low-temperature-aged pork neck, and Iberico pork jowl, plus meal dishes including kimchi stew, doenjang sulbap, naengmyeon (cold noodles), and sizzling-pan fried rice. If you are looking for somewhere to eat meat in Jeonju’s Sinsigaji, give it a try at least once ^^
