Signature pho dish at Phodam Jeonju City Hall Branch

Pho on the last day of my Jeonju trip

Since I was in Jeonju and really wanted pho, I searched around and ended up at Phodam Jeonju City Hall Branch near my accommodation! It is located around Jeonju City Hall, and it seems to be known as a pho spot for lunch in Jeonju. I love pho so much too, so I visited for lunch on the final day of my Jeonju trip haha.

A spacious interior with a local atmosphere

When you walk in, there are menus posted all around the interior, so you can see at a glance what they sell! Other pho places often feel adapted to Korean tastes rather than local style, but Phodam had a local atmosphere!

Maybe because it was weekend lunch, quite a few people were dining inside! Still, dishes like pho came out really quickly, so the turnover was seriously great haha. It also looked like part of the profits are donated. The dining room is quite spacious too, so larger groups can eat comfortably ✨

A varied menu, from pho to bánh mì

Pho and side menu guide

As you would expect from a Vietnamese restaurant, there were pho, fresh spring rolls, bánh xèo, fried spring rolls, and more! I have not been to Vietnam myself, but according to my boyfriend, who has, it was close to the local style.

A tiny cilantro add-on, plus a famous actor named Go-soo making an appearance haha. Unlike other Vietnamese restaurants, the menu was more varied, with Saigon bún chả, bánh mì sandwiches, and more!

Pickled onions, kimchi, and table sauces

Pickled onions and kimchi served as side dishes

Pickled onions and kimchi come as the basic side dishes!! Some pho places do not serve kimchi, and that always makes me a little sad,, 🥲

Hoisin sauce and sauces on the table

Each table has hoisin sauce and other sauces! You can add them to your pho however you like.

Rich, nutty beef brisket pho

I ordered the beef brisket pho, and it came out really quickly! Pho is definitely nice because the food arrives fast haha.

Beef brisket pho with rich broth

Maybe because it was beef brisket, it was really nutty, and unlike at other places, the pho broth was rich and had a strong bean-sprout flavor! Should I say the broth was clean and deep?? It definitely tasted different from other places!!

The portion was generous, and it was my first time having local-style pho—I absolutely loved it 🤗 Pho never feels heavy on my stomach, which is probably why I crave it so often!! Especially while traveling, you eat lots of greasy food, so it is perfect as a meal for a bloated stomach.

Beef shank pho and extra sides

The beef shank pho had meat that was a little bigger and thinner than the brisket! It was deep and clean as well, and my boyfriend said it was delicious too haha.

The brisket pho was also gentle on the stomach, so it suited my tired boyfriend's stomach too haha.

Fresh spring rolls served with pho

While we were eating, my boyfriend got so curious about the fresh spring rolls that we ordered some too haha. Interestingly, Phodam serves its fresh spring rolls already rolled, so they were really easy to eat!

Extra order of fresh spring rolls and fried spring rolls

We also ordered fried spring rolls, which I always order whenever I go to a pho restaurant haha.

Light fried spring rolls packed with vegetables

Light fried spring rolls that pair well with pho

Unlike at other places, Phodam's fried spring rolls had lots of vegetables in the filling! I have usually had fried spring rolls where meat is the main ingredient, but these were light and went even better with the pho.

The pho and fried spring roll combination was completely my taste, so I ate more than my boyfriend haha. My stomach felt bloated and I wanted something comforting, but everything was mild, so I remember finishing it in no time.

Bite-sized fresh spring rolls, already rolled

I do not usually order fresh spring rolls because I find wrapping each one myself a hassle, but at Phodam they came in bite-sized pieces, so they were incredibly easy to eat! Just peel off the plastic wrap and eat them right away haha.

They had vegetables and shrimp inside, so they were fresh and perfect for a diet! I searched for a pho place for lunch in Jeonju to settle my bloated stomach from the trip, and that is how I came to Phodam. The owner was kind, and the food came out quickly, so do visit and try the local-style pho and sides!! 🤗
