Eonyang, Ulsan café with decaf lattes for pregnancy: MUG salt bread

In short

MUG is a large bakery café with Yeongnam Alps mountain views at 90 Hyangsandagae-ro in Sangbuk-myeon, Ulju, Ulsan. After a meal of Eonyang bulgogi nearby, the writer stopped by MUG for a decaf iced café latte, a decaf iced vanilla latte, a blueberry cream cheese cinnamon roll and salt bread at an outdoor seat. With decaf drinks a pregnant visitor can order, strong coffee, good bread and easy parking, MUG was satisfying on every count.

Today after enjoying some delicious Eonyang bulgogi in Eonyang, Ulsan, I was searching for a nearby café and came across this large café called MUG. I want to share my review after visiting! It's a big café, but I loved that the coffee actually tasted good and there was a wide variety of bread. I was even more curious when I heard the café was built on a site motivated by a former wildfire. Since it's a large café, there was plenty of seating and parking space, which made it really convenient. Let me show you the detailed review with the photos below!

Is parking at MUG easy if you drive?

MUG sits partway up a mountain with a gorgeous view of the Eonyang landscape! And the parking lot was so spacious! It's already famous as a hot spot café in Eonyang, so there were plenty of parked cars too!! Being a large café, there was plenty of parking room, which made it easy — my husband loved that too 🙌🏻

MUG's black exterior contrasting with the mountains

This is MUG's exterior! Since the café was built with the idea of a wildfire that once destroyed this spot, the whole exterior is black, standing in stark contrast against the green mountains! At the entrance, bubbles were coming out and the kids absolutely loved it.

Paintings on display at MUG's entrance exhibition

At the entrance of MUG, they had paintings on display! It was an invitational exhibition by Im Hee-jeong titled 'Between Passing.'

The cool-toned paintings were all so pretty and just looking at them felt refreshing!

Even though MUG is a large café, since it was the weekend there were already few seats left available 🥹 proof of Eonyang, Ulsan's hot spot status.

MUG's interior seating crowded with weekend guests

I'll show you the bakery selection in the photos below! Some shelves were empty since the bread was selling well, but they kept restocking!

MUG's interior was so lovely too, with the floor-to-ceiling windows showing gorgeous views of the Yeongnam Alps!

This installation was actually decorated with wood and stones burned in the wildfire!

MUG's outdoor seats and how the bread tasted

MUG had plenty of outdoor seating, and now that the weather's cooler, the outdoor seats felt even better!

We sat outside too since the weather was cool and the birdsong was nice! There's also a beautifully landscaped pond.

MUG's blueberry cream cheese cinnamon roll and salt bread

The ultimate visual — blueberry cinnamon roll and salt bread 🍞 The blueberry cream cheese cinnamon roll had the cream cheese and blueberry blending together so deliciously, living up to its reputation as MUG's signature menu! The salt bread was a generous portion, so we took some home and it was still moist and delicious the next day 🙌🏻

MUG's outdoor seating overlooking a pond

It'd been a while since I had such a relaxing time on an outdoor patio — total healing!!!

I had the regular café latte and my husband had the vanilla latte, and both were rich and delicious, so it passed the coffee test too!!

Why is the café called MUG?

🌰At first, I was curious because the café's name was a bit unusual. It turns out this place was built with the concept of a spot that had once burned in a wildfire. That's probably why the building's exterior is black, and why you can spot design details throughout the interior that evoke fire and char! But once you step inside, the greenery and forest scenery blend in to create a totally different atmosphere. It felt like the space captured nature coming back to life after the fire passed through, and the name 'MUG' fit the café's concept really well 🌿🖤

Is MUG in Eonyang worth a visit?

View of MUG's café grounds at the end of the visit

Usually at large bakery cafés, the bread selection and space are great but the coffee can be disappointing — but MUG's coffee was actually stronger and tastier than expected, and went well with the bread ☕️🤎 As someone who's pregnant, I especially loved that they had decaf coffee available!

Parking was spacious, so it was easy to visit by car, and true to a large bakery café, the bread selection was really varied 🥐🥖 Best of all, whenever the bread ran low, they kept baking fresh batches to restock. Thanks to that, I could pick warm, delicious bread :)

From coffee to bread to parking, MUG was satisfying all around! If you're ever in the Eonyang area of Ulsan, it's worth a stop 🤎
