Ulju, Ulsan bakery café with a vast parking lot: late-afternoon MUG

In short

MUG is a large bakery café at 90 Hyangsandagae-ro in Sangbuk-myeon, Ulju-gun, Ulsan, near Eonyang. The parking lot at MUG is vast, the high ceilings make the room feel open, and the outdoor seats are pet-friendly. Arriving late in the afternoon meant the weekend-only tiramisu cinnamon roll had sold out, but with the crowd gone MUG was quiet and easy to sit and talk in.

I visited MUG, located in Sangbuk-myeon, Ulju-gun. If you're looking for an Eonyang date spot or somewhere worth seeing in Eonyang, this café is a good pick thanks to its spacious layout and relaxed atmosphere.

Is parking easy at MUG?

The first thing that catches your eye at MUG is the sheer size of the parking lot. It's genuinely vast, so driving there is no trouble at all.

Large cafés around Ulju or Eonyang basically require a car, so having plenty of parking space right from the start takes off any pressure.

Inside MUG: high ceilings and seating

MUG's high-ceilinged interior space

Stepping inside MUG, the interior is impressively large too. The spacing between seats is wide and the ceilings are high, so there's zero feeling of being cramped.

Even when the seats fill up, the space doesn't feel packed, and the open sightlines make it comfortable to stay a while.

This isn't just a place to drink coffee — there's real enjoyment in the space itself, which makes it a good fit for anyone hunting for an unusual Ulsan café or a gallery-style Ulsan café. It's nice to wander the wide space slowly and unwind, which also makes it a solid Eonyang date course.

On nice-weather days, the outdoor seats are available too. They're pet-friendly, which is especially welcome for anyone bringing along their dog. The indoor and outdoor moods are clearly different, so it's fun to enjoy them differently depending on the season.

There's a microwave, so you can warm up any bread you buy to your liking. We just ate ours as is, but I imagine it'd taste even better warmed up.

Can the MUG Black Latte be made decaf?

The menu item I was most curious about at MUG was the signature MUG Black Latte. Unfortunately, though, it can't be switched to decaf.

If you're sensitive to caffeine or visiting late in the afternoon, it's better to pick a different drink.

MUG is also fairly well known for its bakery menu, so plenty of people come specifically for the cinnamon rolls. I was especially curious about the tiramisu cinnamon roll, sold only on weekends — but since I came in the afternoon, it was, as expected, sold out. I was disappointed not to even get a look at it.

Since we arrived late in the afternoon, there wasn't much bread left, which was a bit of a letdown.

Bread and drinks chosen at MUG

If you want to see the cinnamon rolls or other popular bakery items properly, it seems better to go a little earlier in the day.

How quiet MUG gets in the late afternoon

On the plus side, as time went on and customers thinned out, we got to properly enjoy MUG's particular sense of ease. With wide spacing between tables, there was no feeling of sitting right on top of other guests, and it was easy to focus fully on the people I was with.

Sitting across from my husband, chatting slowly, conversation flowed much better than usual. In loud, crowded cafés, talking itself can get tiring — but here, the spacious layout made it comfortable to just settle in.

If you're looking for an Eonyang date spot, this relaxed atmosphere is one of MUG's big strengths.

When is the best time to visit MUG?

If you're aiming for the weekend-only menu, go a bit earlier rather than in the afternoon. On the other hand, if quiet atmosphere and conversation matter more to you than the bread, late afternoon was actually pretty good too.

If you're after an unusual Ulsan café or a worthwhile spot in Eonyang and want to spend some unhurried time, this café is well worth a stop.
