Hongdae restaurant in Seoul for a family lunch: Ray Set at Raymond's

It's still hot out, but the temperature dropped a bit from last week, so there's just a hint of autumn in the air. Last week I finally got to go out to Hongdae with my niece and her husband. We went to Yeonnam-dong for a perfume workshop, and by the time we finished it was lunchtime, so we headed to the Hongdae dining alley for pizza.

We debated between meat or pizza, but my niece's husband loves pizza, so pizza it was. Turned out to be a great choice.

This place is a hot spot for pizza in Hongdae. The salty, Jackson-pizza-style American pizza was so good. They also have a bunch of craft beers, which is why it's known as one of the go-to pizza-and-beer (pijaek) spots in Hongdae.

If you want to enjoy pizza, chicken, and beer all in one place in Hongdae, choosing what to order can be a struggle.

This time, while looking for good pizza in Hongdae, I found Raymond's Hongdae and tried the Ray Set.

What I especially liked about the Ray Set is that you get to taste a bit of several different pizzas.

Ordering one big pizza can get monotonous, but here the set comes with one slice of every pizza on the menu — four slices total — plus a 20-inch pizza half pan, so we got to try a good variety.

The pizza was obviously the first thing that caught my eye in Raymond's Ray Set.

Getting one slice of every pizza on the menu made it easy to share with the group, and it was fun comparing all the different flavors.

The best part was being able to try a slice of each and then eat more of whichever one you liked. In Hongdae, when you meet up with friends, everyone usually wants something different, so this kind of set works well even when tastes don't line up.

Ray Set sides: sausage and truffle fries

Besides the pizza, the Ray Set also comes with sausage, truffle fries, and assorted sauces, so we didn't need to order any sides separately.

The sausage had a different kind of salty flavor from the pizza and was good to mix in between bites. Personally, I thought the truffle fries went really well with the pizza. Crispy fries with that distinct truffle aroma also made a great beer snack.

My niece drove, so she skipped the alcohol, but if you can go all in on the pizza-and-beer combo, it's about as perfect as a Hongdae date gets, haha.

Raymond's Hongdae is located at 15 Yanghwa-ro 18an-gil, Mapo-gu, Seoul, South Korea (1F). Hours are Monday–Thursday and Sunday 12:00–24:00, and Friday–Saturday 12:00 to 2:00 the next day. On Liberation Day and the substitute holiday it also ran 12:00 to 2:00 the next day.
