Gangnam Japanese restaurant for cold soba and shrimp: Ichigyu
In short
Ichigyu Gangnam Sinnonhyeon Branch is a Japanese-style gyukatsu restaurant in Gangnam, Seoul. My husband and I grilled gyukatsu and steki at our own tabletop brazier, alongside cold soba and shrimp tempura. Verdict: a satisfying, unhurried grilled-meat meal.

Ichigyu

Ichigyu Gangnam Sinnonhyeon Branch, close to Sinnonhyeon Station
Today, after running some errands with my husband, we visited Ichigyu Gangnam Sinnonhyeon Branch, a nearby good restaurant. It is a convenient five-minute walk from Exit 4 of Sinnonhyeon Station.

Ichigyu Sinnonhyeon Branch does not have its own parking lot, so you will need to use a nearby paid car park.
- Le Méridien No. 2 Parking Lot: 615-4 Yeoksam-dong, Gangnam-gu, Seoul
- Le Méridien No. 3 Parking Lot: 615 Yeoksam-dong, Gangnam-gu, Seoul
- Semyeong Parking Lot: 25 Gangnam-daero 106-gil, Gangnam-gu, Seoul
These are paid car parks not far away. But parking is expensive... Most charge ₩2,500 per 15 minutes, so I recommend public transportation :)

Ichigyu is on the second floor. You can take either the elevator or stairs from the first floor. The first-floor elevator connects directly to the restaurant, so it is easy to use.

A Japanese-style interior in warm wood tones
Inside, the restaurant had a distinctly Japanese feel, with a neat interior finished in wood tones and soft lighting.

The dining room was more spacious than I expected, with tables set for two and four. Large windows made it feel bright. It felt like a restaurant on a quiet Japanese side street... 😊

There is also a space off to one side where you can wash your hands before or after your meal.

Ichigyu's menu and what we ordered
Ichigyu offers four gyukatsu set menus, Ichigyu gyukatsu, a steki set meal, hamburg omurice, steki-don, teppan chopped steak, Napolitan yakisoba, cold soba & shrimp tempura, mini curry, karaage & shrimp tempura, fried eggs, highballs, draft beer, drinks, and more.

While you wait for your order, have a read through how to enjoy Ichigyu gyukatsu deliciously.. 🙏

You can also take part in the receipt review event. We ordered the Ichigyu gyukatsu for ₩19,500, the steki set meal for ₩19,500, and cold soba & shrimp tempura for ₩11,000.

Gyukatsu and steki grilled on a personal brazier
Every table comes with an individual cast-iron grill brazier. Just grill everything to your own liking :)

Ichigyu Gyukatsu
This gyukatsu features savory striploin with Ichigyu's special sauce, full of garlic aroma and tanginess. It arrives as a neat spread with butter, soup, salad, salt, sauce, and wasabi. The thin coating was crisp outside, while the meat was juicy and tender inside—so delicious from the very first bite. Even the aroma of Isigny butter... perfect gyukatsu!
Steki set meal
This is a simple steki made with savory striploin and Ichigyu's special sauce, known for its fragrant garlic notes and tanginess. The steki was incredibly tender, full of juices, and the flavor of the meat really came through. A little salt and wasabi on top made it just right. Even better with hot rice—so good!!

French Isigny butter. Once the grill is hot, place the butter on first to melt it, then start grilling :) It was so delicious with that extra buttery flavor.

The warm rice is unlimited, so each person can serve as much as they want into their bowl. I loved being able to have warm rice right through to the end.

Adding cold soba and jumbo shrimp tempura
The buckwheat cold soba is chilled soba with pleasantly springy buckwheat noodles. Having it between bites was refreshing and so delicious :)

The jumbo shrimp tempura was crispy-crispy, and dipping the big shrimp into chili sauce—so delicious.

Once we got going, we ate really deliciously without saying a word haha. Because we each had our own brazier, we could grill slowly at our own pace and exactly how we liked it, which made it even better.

The very best... bite!! A spoonful of rice with gyukatsu and loads of wasabi. One big mouthful, and I was in heaven 💛
If you would like quality gyukatsu in a place full of Japanese atmosphere, I recommend visiting Ichigyu Gangnam Sinnonhyeon Branch. You will have a satisfying, delicious meal.
