Gangnam Japanese restaurant for hamburg omurice: Ichigyu
In short
Ichigyu Gangnam Sinnonhyeon Branch is a Japanese restaurant in Gangnam, Seoul, where diners grill gyukatsu at a personal tabletop brazier. The gyukatsu was juicy and the rice warm, but the soft omelet, thick hamburg steak, and tomato sauce were the real standouts. Verdict: Ichigyu is well worth a visit for gyukatsu and omurice in Gangnam.

Ichigyu Gangnam Sinnonhyeon Branch: location and parking

Ichigyu Sinnonhyeon Branch is on the second floor of the building! It looked neat from the outside, and it is only about a three-minute walk from Sinnonhyeon Station, so it was easy to find :) There is no parking available. Since I drove, I parked at a nearby public lot, and I recommend Yeoksam Culture Park No. 1 Public Parking Lot!

Let's head up to the second floor and go inside! The Japanese feel hit me the moment I walked in...!!
A spacious, comfortable dining room

Once inside, the restaurant was much more spacious and comfortable than I expected! There were plenty of tables, so it looked like a good place to visit with a group too :) Even though it is a gyukatsu restaurant, the smell of meat had not really soaked into the space, so I could eat in a clean atmosphere.

Along with four-person tables, there were cozy two-person seats like these, which looked nice for a date or a visit for two :)
Our gyukatsu and hamburg omurice set

That day, we ordered the gyukatsu + hamburg omurice set, plus karaage (Japanese fried chicken) and fried shrimp on the side!
Gyukatsu grilled over a butter brazier

The main gyukatsu arrived! I already love gyukatsu and have been to quite a few good gyukatsu places, but the gyukatsu here was seriously delicious.. ㅠㅠ

The gyukatsu came in about nine large pieces, with soup, butter, salt, chili sauce, and pickled cabbage. I loved that butter came as part of the set, without having to order extra :)

I melted the butter on the tabletop brazier, then grilled the gyukatsu one piece at a time. It already looked so delicious at this point...!!!

I lightly seared the outside before eating it, and the meat was not greasy at all—the juices were bursting through. It was really delicious ㅠㅠ

I added a little wasabi, dipped it in sauce, and ate it with rice, and this combination was truly delicious. Since gyukatsu is something you eat with rice, I personally care about the rice too. This rice was pleasantly firm, warm, and nicely cooked, so I loved it :)
The hamburg omurice I most want to recommend

The hamburg omurice arrived too, and it was a menu item I enjoyed so much!! I already like omurice, but I especially loved how balanced the tomato flavor was here and how softly set the egg was :) The omelet on top was incredibly thick, and the hamburg steak was large and hefty too, so it looked filling and generous even before digging in. After pouring on all the sauce, I cut it in half...!!!

Look at that completely soft omelet opening up! It felt like the kind of omurice I saw in Japan, exactly my favorite style 🥹 The moist egg wrapped around the rice and went down so smoothly—it was so good. The sauce had a noticeable tomato flavor, and since I already love tomato-based sauces, it suited my taste perfectly! The hamburg steak was thick too, making this such a filling meal with the omurice. Personally, hamburg omurice is the dish I most want to recommend from everything we ate that day! 🥹💛
Fried shrimp, karaage, and mini curry

First, the fried items and curry we ordered as sides came out! The fried shrimp was the kind that comes with one whole large shrimp; the coating was crisp and the shrimp inside was plump, so I enjoyed it! The karaage was crisp outside and moist inside too, making it a nice side to share :)
I was curious about the curry too, so I added the ₩5,000 mini curry! It came in a more generous portion than expected, making it nice alongside several dishes. It was rich, tasty Japanese-style curry that paired especially well with rice. I recommend the gyukatsu + rice + curry combination too 👍🏻
With such a generous spread on the table, we finished everything very happily :) As we were about to leave after the meal, I noticed there was also a space to wipe your hands. Since this is a place where you grill meat, I liked that they had considered the lingering smell after eating too :)
Final thoughts
I love gyukatsu and have visited many good places for it, but Ichigyu was satisfying overall, from the gyukatsu to the sides and omurice. The gyukatsu was delicious because the meat was not greasy and stayed juicy, and grilling it myself on a butter-melted brazier meant I could enjoy it warm until the end! And the best dish that day was definitely the hamburg omurice 🥹💛 The combination of the soft, moist omelet, thick hamburg steak, and tomato sauce was so good 🤤 If you are looking for delicious gyukatsu and omurice in Gangnam, I recommend giving Ichigyu a visit :)
