Myeon-mok-dong Korean BBQ with open-window patio: Daepan Sotddukkeong

In short

Daepan Sotddukkeong Kimchi Samgyeopsal is a sotdduggeong (iron pot lid) kimchi samgyeopsal grill house in Myeon-mok-dong, Jungnang-gu, Seoul, a short walk from Myeon-mok Station. With the full-length windows thrown open, the front seats feel like an outdoor tent, and the couple set (37,000 won) brings samgyeopsal (pork belly), mokssal (pork shoulder), grilled cheese and steamed egg, while mushrooms, potatoes, kimchi and bean sprouts come free from the self-serve bar. The room is wide and clean and the service generous, so Daepan Sotddukkeong Kimchi Samgyeopsal also works as a group-dinner spot in Myeon-mok-dong.

What kind of place is Daepan Sotddukkeong Kimchi Samgyeopsal, the Korean BBQ near Myeon-mok Station?

Daepan Sotddukkeong Kimchi Samgyeopsal, a Myeon-mok-dong samgyeopsal spot, lets you grill kimchi and pork belly on an iron sotddukkeong (pot lid), and when you open the full-length windows all the way, it actually feels like an outdoor tent restaurant! Taste, service, and atmosphere all hit the mark — my satisfaction was well over 100%.

Wait, this atmosphere is way too good? I've been on the hunt for outdoor-tent restaurants in this cool weather, and Daepan Sotddukkeong Kimchi Samgyeopsal has a spacious dining room that, once the windows are fully open, is basically identical to a tent, so I rushed straight to the outdoor seats haha.

Inside Daepan Sotddukkeong Kimchi Samgyeopsal

I really wish winter would take its time getting here. This Myeon-mok-dong samgyeopsal restaurant, despite being a BBQ place, had no smell inside and the space was so clean — you could immediately tell the staff cares a lot about cleanliness.

Spacious, clean interior seating area

There's also a private space inside where you can eat meat away from everyone else!

Menu and lunch specials

At this Jungnang-gu BBQ restaurant, ordering the couple set gets you samgyeopsal and mokssal along with cheese grill and steamed egg, so I didn't hesitate for a second before ordering it! I was hungry and wanted to eat fast lol. Daepan Sotddukkeong Kimchi Samgyeopsal also sells lunch specials — if you visit at lunchtime you can order kimchi jjigae, kimchi jjaglagi, cheonggukjang (fermented soybean stew), jeyuk bokkeum (spicy stir-fried pork), yeolmu guksu (noodles with young radish kimchi), or naengmyeon.

Let's go, side dishes. As soon as guests walk in, staff quickly set the table — the service here was excellent.

Ooh~ At this Myeon-mok-dong samgyeopsal spot, potatoes, mushrooms, bean sprouts, and kimchi are set on the sotddukkeong as a base!! And on top of that, all of these are also available at the self-serve bar, so if you run out, just help yourself! Love it.

What comes in the 37,000 won couple set

Couple set ₩37,000 — samgyeopsal + mokssal + cheese grill + steamed egg

The moment I saw the samgyeopsal and mokssal I thought the quality looked really good, and it turns out this Myeon-mok-dong BBQ restaurant only uses top-grade Boseong nokdon female pig! No wonder... it looked so delicious.

The couple set also came with cheese, and the cheese grilled together with the potatoes was so good that I demolished it before I even touched the meat. Grilled cheese, so nutty and rich♡

Ready to eat lol. Looking back at these photos of the Boseong nokdon while writing this post is making me crave a beer.

What's on the free self-serve bar

The neat self-serve bar is such a plus~ I love that there's mushrooms and potatoes there. And with kimchi and bean sprouts that are automatically delicious once grilled, I got to fully enjoy the sides while eating meat, no shortage at all!

Free kimchijeon (kimchi pancake) too, whoa. Honestly I wasn't going to bother eating kimchijeon since it seemed like a hassle, but the friend I came with grilled it up for us. Thanks, I ate well.

It'd be a shame not to have a beer

While we were eating, steamed egg and doenjang jjigae (soybean paste stew) came out too — both familiar flavors, but delicious. I think I ate most of it haha.

From mushrooms to kimchi, bean sprouts, and potatoes — everything at Daepan Sotddukkeong Kimchi Samgyeopsal pairs well with the meat, so I'd highly recommend this Myeon-mok-dong samgyeopsal spot as a company dinner venue too! While we were eating, I saw a steady stream of families walking in, and it hit me — this really is a beloved neighborhood spot.

Samgyeopsal wrapped with fresh vegetables

The vegetables were so fresh and every side dish was tasty, so the samgyeopsal and mokssal were delicious no matter how you ate them! Top-grade Boseong nokdon really does make a difference. My friend who came with me said she made a great choice of restaurant and was fully satisfied! Same here, of course~

A plate of extra ordered mokssal

I was full but still wanted a bit more, so I ordered extra mokssal!

Daepan Sotddukkeong Kimchi Samgyeopsal even gives you a yogurt on the way out! A place with service down to the very last detail.
