Yangjae pie shop walnut pie, frozen and thawed: Hodu Kkakki Brothers
In short
Hodu Kkakki Brothers (호두까끼형제) is a takeout-only shop for sugar-free handmade pies, tucked in a Dogok-dong alley near Exit 4 of Yangjae Station in Gangnam, Seoul. The writer bought the 34,900 won Premium Assorted Pie as a gift and tried all 4 flavors. The leftover walnut pie was frozen, then thawed at room temperature for about 10 minutes; it stayed mostly crisp and turned denser and fudgier. For a thank-you gift or dessert present, the Hodu Kkakki Brothers assorted pie is well worth recommending.

I had plans near Yangjae Station this weekend and needed a gift, so I stopped by Hodu Kkakki Brothers (호두까끼형제) for the first time in a while!! It's a takeout-only shop in the alley near Exits 3 and 4 of Yangjae Station, specializing in sugar-free handmade pies made with organic ingredients, which makes them a great dessert gift. People I've given them to have reacted really well, so I've been here many times!
Today I ordered the Premium Mix Pie, which lets you try 4 flavors at once, and gave it as a gift. I'll go through what's in it, plus exactly how to store walnut pie and for how long if you can't finish it all at once!!

There's also a certification mark for a pest-control-managed space, and since you can look over the whole menu before buying, this seems to be a place people often come for gift desserts.

The box is super sturdy, and they include a leaflet with the brand story, walnut pie storage instructions and more, which makes it feel worth gifting, haha
How does the Hodu Kkakki Brothers Premium Assorted Pie taste?

This is the box the pies come in!

The leaflet explains the Hodu Kkakki Brothers brand. It started in 2017, and to make a dessert that's sweet yet healthy, the pies use no refined sugar and are flavored only with natural honey, oligosaccharide syrup and maple syrup! They also use only organic wheat flour, and the dough combines rice flour and almond flour with natural milk butter, so it's literally a premium walnut pie.

The pie I bought today is the Premium Assorted Pie (₩34,900), which lets you enjoy 4 flavors at once: Signature Walnut Pie, Hazelnut Cacao Pie, Original Pecan Pie and Macadamia Cheese Pie.

They're incredibly thick and packed full, and you get both the crisp texture and the chewy texture at their maximum! Since everything is made with good ingredients, it's a flavor older folks are bound to love, haha
Walnut pie storage: how long in the fridge or freezer?

- Cream pies: eat within 3 days
Trying a frozen walnut pie after thawing
I actually froze the leftover Hodu Kkakki Brothers walnut pie, then thawed it naturally for about 10 minutes and tried it.

The crispness didn't die much, and it actually felt chewier with a deeper flavor, so I enjoyed it, haha. If you eat it straight from the freezer you could hurt your teeth, so I recommend thawing it naturally for about 10 minutes!

The assorted pie from Hodu Kkakki Brothers near Yangjae Station is a total must-recommend for thank-you or dessert gifts 👍
