Seongsu hanwoo omakase prices compared, tripe finale: Usiya Seongsu

In short

Usiya Seongsu Branch is a hanwoo (Korean beef) omakase restaurant near Seongsu Station in Seongdong, Seoul, with three courses: A at ₩99,000, B at ₩79,000 and C at ₩59,000. The writer chose the best-value ₩59,000-per-person C course and let the staff grill everything: beef tongue, striploin, chuck flap, brisket, grilled oxtail, aged kimchi stew (mukeunji-jjigae) with rice, and tripe to finish. For the menu and the service, the Usiya Seongsu Branch C course is a fair price and well worth a return visit.

If you want to eat beef in a nice atmosphere in Seongsu, I'd recommend Usiya Seongsu Branch 🥩

Main photo of the hanwoo omakase at Usiya Seongsu Branch

Usiya Seongsu Branch is a hanwoo omakase restaurant where you can try everything from beef tongue and special cuts of hanwoo to grilled oxtail and tripe. This time I had the C course, the most reasonably priced one, and it was better than I expected, so I'd definitely go back.

Where is Usiya Seongsu Branch, and what's the atmosphere like?

Usiya Seongsu Branch is at 1F, 3 Ttukseom-ro 9-gil, Seongdong-gu, Seoul. You'll find it a short walk in from Seongsu Station.

Inside, wood interiors and soft lighting make it feel cozy.

There's a long run of bar seats along the open kitchen, and I liked being able to watch the meat being grilled right in front of me. It's calmer than a typical Korean BBQ place, so I think it works well for a Seongsu date or an anniversary dinner.

Usiya Seongsu Branch course prices and what's in the C course

Usiya Seongsu Branch offers three courses: A, B and C. We chose the most basic one, the C course at ₩59,000 per person.

  • A course ₩99,000
  • B course ₩79,000
  • C course ₩59,000

The C course came in this order: beef tongue → striploin → chuck flap → brisket → grilled oxtail → aged kimchi stew with rice → tripe. The staff grill the meat for you, so it was easy to just relax and eat.

Before you start, they show you all the meat used in the course at once, and the hanwoo marbling was so pretty. Getting to taste lots of different cuts in small amounts gives it a different charm from ordinary beef grilling.

Flavor by cut: beef tongue, striploin, chuck flap and brisket

The first cut in the Usiya Seongsu Branch C course was the beef tongue! Then came striploin, chuck flap and brisket, and trying the different hanwoo cuts one after another was fun.

Beef tongue is charming for its springy, chewy texture. It's grilled thin, so it isn't heavy and tastes nicely nutty. Even if you don't usually eat beef tongue, it's worth trying once.

Next came the striploin, chuck flap and brisket, in that order.

The striploin was tender and juicy, while the chuck flap had a bit more chew to it.

The brisket had a lovely nutty richness from the fat. Even though it's all beef, each cut had its own texture and flavor, so comparing them one by one was fun.

I didn't have to worry about doneness, since the staff grilled everything just right, and it went well with the vegetables served alongside.

Grilled oxtail, aged kimchi stew with rice, and tripe

The Usiya Seongsu Branch C course doesn't just end with meat. After the brisket, the next dish was grilled oxtail.

It's a cut you don't easily come across in ordinary beef grilling, so I liked getting it as part of a course. The chewy texture plus the nutty grilled flavor made it a really appealing dish.

After the oxtail came aged kimchi stew with rice. After a long stretch of meat, a spicy kimchi stew made the flow of the meal feel great. With rice included, it was a much more filling course than I expected.

The last dish after the kimchi stew was tripe.

It was clearly different from the hanwoo cuts before it, with that distinctive crunchy-chewy tripe texture. The seasoning added a good savory depth, and I could taste the nuttiness of the lightly charred parts too.

I really liked the structure: starting with regular beef cuts and finishing with tripe.

Is the ₩59,000 C course at Usiya Seongsu Branch worth the price?

Personally, Usiya Seongsu Branch was a Seongsu hanwoo omakase I was really happy with. I'd absolutely go back! I also liked that the C course, with beef tongue, three hanwoo cuts, grilled oxtail, tripe and a meal with rice, is only ₩59,000 per person.

Above all, it was easy having the staff grill the meat, and the course wasn't monotonous, which I enjoyed all the way through.

There's even a foreigner-only menu guide, haha

Considering the food and the service, the price felt perfectly reasonable. It's a good place to visit when you want to enjoy beef in a slightly more special way. I'd recommend it to anyone looking for a Seongsu date restaurant or a Seongsu hanwoo omakase. I'd definitely go back myself!
