Lamb skewers are something I need to refill on regularly haha! It had been a while, so I went to a lamb restaurant near Balsan Station with a neighborhood friend. The place had private sofa seating plus a clean, comfortable vibe, so it seemed great for friend gatherings or work dinners too!

Today's spot is a Balsan Station restaurant, a Balsan Station lamb skewer restaurant — Hwarodam Yang Kkochi. Hwarodam Yang Kkochi is located about 298m from Exit 9 of Balsan Station, on the 2nd floor of Queen's Park 10!
Inside Hwarodam Yang Kkochi: private sofa booths

The interior was super clean and felt comfortable overall! All the seats are private sofa booths.

It has a cleaner, more upscale vibe than a typical lamb skewer place, so it seems good as a Balsan Station meeting spot or Balsan Station work dinner venue! When I visited, I saw quite a few groups there for gatherings or company dinners haha.
Hwarodam Yang Kkochi menu and prices

The Hwarodam Yang Kkochi menu is divided into grilled cuts, skewers, and cooked dishes.
- Lamb chop [French Rack] ₩36,000
- Lamb chop [Shoulder Rack] ₩28,000
- Raw lamb sirloin ₩28,000
- Lamb flower rib meat ₩26,000
- Lamb sirloin skewer ₩23,000
- Thick lamb skewer ₩18,000
- Lamb rib-meat skewer ₩18,000

They also have a range of cooked dishes like fried shrimp, guo bao rou (sweet-and-sour pork), and noodle soup! There's a good drink selection too — highball, Tsingtao, Yantai gaoliangju, and Hwayo — perfect for pairing a drink with lamb skewers hehe.

They're also running a Pilsner & I.P.A. buy-3-get-1-free event!!
What we ordered: rib-meat skewers, French rack and mango cream shrimp

- Lamb rib-meat skewer ₩18,000
- Lamb chop [French Rack] ₩36,000
- Mango cream shrimp ₩19,000
This is what we ordered! Looking through reviews, apparently the lamb rib-meat skewer is a part people don't know much about but that's supposedly really delicious?! I was curious, so I ordered it right away haha.
Side dishes and the three house sauces

The tableware came out neatly set, and the place itself being so clean made it even better hehe. And they brought out no fewer than three Hwarodam house sauces!
- Chive flower sauce
- Secret soy sauce
- Silk Road sauce
The three sauces each tasted different, so it was fun eating the grilled meat with them. I especially liked the umami of the chive flower sauce, and the seasoning in the Silk Road sauce was also great for dipping the meat.

White kimchi and pickled gungchae (a leafy vegetable) also came out as side dishes, and the pickled gungchae was totally my thing! There's a slight hint of mala spice, and the crunchy texture was really nice. Eating lamb can sometimes feel a bit greasy, but the pickled gungchae cuts through that and leaves your mouth feeling fresh! I'd recommend eating it alongside the lamb hehe.
Honest review of the meal at Hwarodam Yang Kkochi

You can't have lamb skewers without Tsingtao haha! Having a cold one with my friend hit the spot hehe. Lamb skewers and Tsingtao really is an unbeatable combo!!!!!

We started with the lamb chop French rack! A staff member grilled the whole thing for us, which made it easy. The moment their knife cut into the meat, it already looked incredibly tender!!!!!

It's lamb, but it had almost a lamb-steak kind of feel haha. The leaner parts were really clean-tasting, and the fattier parts were nutty and delicious.

At Hwarodam Yang Kkochi, all the meat comes pre-grilled, which was great because it cut down on grilling time at the table!

I didn't get a strong gamey lamb smell, and the texture was so tender it melted in my mouth — so good T_T. I think it's because they use young lamb under a year old, so it's tender and free of gaminess while still having a deep, distinct lamb flavor!! I think even people who usually don't do well with lamb could eat this pretty comfortably!

The skewers were great, but I couldn't skip the fried dish either T_T. The mango flavor really came through more than I expected!!

The shrimp were super plump and delicious too T_T. It's almost a shame that photos can't fully capture how bouncy the texture was haha. As someone with a small appetite, it was great alternating between this and the lamb hehe.
What do the lamb rib-meat skewers taste like?
The lamb rib-meat skewer! Tasting it, it was way more tender than I expected.

How do I put this... kind of like a soft, springy sausage with a satisfying bite?

It had a different texture and flavor from the lamb skewers I'm used to, so it was intriguing haha. Good to try for something a little different!
The ₩24,000 lunch special for two, 11:30–13:30

Hwarodam Yang Kkochi also sells a lunch special! ₩24,000, limited to 11:30–13:30.
- Set A for 2 – guo bao rou / mapo fried rice / jjajangmyeon / crab soup
- Set B for 2 – griddled eggplant / Hwarodam fried rice / clear noodle soup / crab soup
You get to enjoy a full meal and a cooked dish at once, so if you're visiting with several people, ordering the lunch special seems like a good move!
Is Hwarodam Yang Kkochi worth it for a group meal?
I visited Hwarodam Yang Kkochi to refill on lamb skewers after a while! The place turned out to be cleaner and more comfortable than expected, and the private sofa seating made it easy to chat with my friend while eating. Best of all, the lamb came pre-grilled and a staff member grilled the French rack for us, so we could eat comfortably hehe.

- Private sofa booth seating
- Clean, comfortable dining space
- French rack grilled by staff
