In short

Ryusenso Beomeo Branch is a Japanese ramen shop in Beomeo-dong, near the Suseong-gu Office in Daegu. On a weekday afternoon visit, two bowls of Ryusenso Kara (spicy tonkotsu ramen) — one at spice level 1, one ordered toned down — plus a katsudon came to ₩35,000. There was no wait, and the bar seats at Ryusenso make it an easy place to eat alone.

There's a place that instantly comes to mind whenever I'm craving Japanese ramen near the Suseong-gu Office. We had some business there this day and went looking for somewhere to eat nearby, which is how we found Ryusenso Beomeo Branch. The navy noren hanging at the entrance has the shop name in Chinese characters and English, so you can spot it right away as you pass by. The signage alone gives off such a strong Japanese-restaurant vibe that my expectations shot up. Let's get into the detailed review~!

Seating at Ryusenso Beomeo: is it comfortable for solo diners?

Wall-side seating at Ryusenso Beomeo Branch under soft lighting

This Suseong-gu, Daegu spot, Ryusenso Beomeo Branch, greets you with a long table in a Japanese bar-seat style right as you walk in. There are also comfortable 4-person seats. The wood-toned tables and soft lighting gave it a real on-the-ground-in-Japan feel. Seating continues along the wall too, so even with company you can sit comfortably.

Ordering is done via tablet right at your seat, so you don't need to go up to the counter — very convenient. Each table is well stocked with water, cups, condiment containers, small plates, and chopsticks, so even solo diners won't feel any inconvenience. Maybe because it was a weekday afternoon, the shop wasn't very crowded, but with lots of academies nearby, evenings tend to get busier. There's no separate parking lot, so I'd recommend public transit or a nearby public parking lot~!

A table with pepper, shichimi, and a cat-shaped condiment container

On the table there was pepper and shichimi, plus an adorable cat-shaped container too, which made for fun photos. There's also minced garlic — adding it to the ramen brings out even more umami. Little touches like this made an impression, showing the attention to detail.

Ryusenso Beomeo menu and prices

The menu is simple and ramen-focused. There's tonkotsu ramen, the spicy kara, clam soy ramen, and shrimp miso ramen, each in its own category, plus sides and katsudon. Prices are in the low ₩10,000s per bowl, making it easy to enjoy without much burden.

How spicy is Ryusenso Kara at level 1, and toned down?

This day we ordered two bowls of Ryusenso Kara (spicy tonkotsu ramen) plus a katsudon. Ryusenso Kara lets you choose spice level 1–3, so I went with level 1 and my husband asked for mild. Mild wasn't spicy at all, and level 1 was just the right amount of kick even for spice wimps. Even people who can't handle spicy food much can adjust the heat and enjoy it comfortably.

A bowl of Ryusenso Kara topped with chashu and egg

It wasn't long before our Ryusenso Kara arrived. The broth was rich and savory, and I kept scooping up spoonful after spoonful. It's made by simmering pork bones for a long time, so a deep flavor really comes through, but instead of being greasy, it felt like the umami was even more alive.

Thin ramen noodles in a rich tonkotsu broth

The noodles were on the thin side and paired well with the broth, and with chashu and egg on top, the bowl felt substantial. A spoonful of the broth was salty with a clean finish, the kind that keeps drawing your spoon back. If you like spicy food, bumping it up to level 2 or 3 would make it even better~!

The katsudon we ordered alongside the ramen was delicious too. The pork cutlet on top was thick, the batter crispy, and the meat inside juicy. Alternating between it and the ramen broth made for a filling meal, much more satisfying than eating the ramen alone.

₩35,000 in total, and why Ryusenso is worth a return visit

This day, two bowls of ramen plus a katsudon came to about ₩35,000 total. It was also nice being able to eat comfortably on a weekday afternoon with no waiting. If you're craving Japanese ramen near the Suseong-gu Office and looking for a good spot to eat solo, give Ryusenso Beomeo Branch a try. We'll likely stop by again whenever we're in the area, and next time I'd like to try one of the other ramen varieties.
