It's my anniversary with my boyfriend today :) So after work I really wanted to go somewhere with good vibes for dinner and a drink for once — here's where we went!
Today I'm introducing Izakaya Wakoan Suseong Beomeo Branch in Beomeo-dong, Suseong-gu. There are so many atmospheric bars popping up in Beomeo-dong these days, but Wakoan especially felt like a little bar straight out of Japan, which was perfect for us since we're both into that Japanese vibe haha.
Best of all, it's not just a drinking spot — they also have full meal options like steak, pasta, and fried rice, so it worked well as a dinner-plus-drinks visit too.
A Beomeo-dong izakaya with great atmosphere — Wakoan Suseong Beomeo Branch
I usually come to Beomeo-dong for meals or cafés. I'd walked past this place many times before, and it turned out to be Wakoan :)
Wakoan is actually closer to Suseong-gu Office Station than to Beomeo Station, so it's a pretty convenient spot if you're already looking for food or drinks in Beomeo-dong!
We drove that day, so we parked at a nearby paid lot before heading in. Since I was driving, I stuck to non-alcoholic beer, while my boyfriend had a nice cold draft beer!
Inside Wakoan Suseong Beomeo Branch: window seats and a 14-person group room
Walking inside, the whole interior really brought to mind an actual izakaya in Japan!
That said, it wasn't too dark or cramped — everything felt clean and well put together, which I loved :)
There's a group room that fits up to 14 people, curtained-off seats that give you complete privacy, and a bar table too. We wanted to eat quietly while looking outside, so we took a window seat — great for just the two of us to talk. I'd recommend it as a date spot in Beomeo-dong!
What is on the Wakoan menu, and how does the free corkage bottle work?
The menu was way more varied than I expected. True to an izakaya, there's a whole range of drinking snacks, but also steak, pasta, and fried rice dishes — I thought it'd actually be worth coming back just for a proper meal!
Oh, and one more thing if you love your drinks: Wakoan lets you bring one bottle corkage-free. If you've got a favorite bottle or something you've been saving at home, this is a great place to bring it and enjoy together :)

For the main snack we wanted something warm and soupy, so we ordered the steamed clams in sake — and added noodles on top haha.
The clam sake stew comes already cooked through and ready to eat right away — the clams gave the broth a really refreshing kick, and it was great as a drinking snack. Having a warm soup dish on the table also made it easy to pair with everything else!
Adding the noodles gave it a pasta-like feel, so it ended up being a two-in-one dish we really enjoyed.
Homemade ankimo laver chips, 10,000 won
Then, as something a bit different, we ordered the homemade ankimo laver chips. Ankimo and laver chips together? I've had ankimo before with sashimi, but I was curious how it'd work with crispy laver chips, so we gave it a try.
Trying it out, the crispy texture of the laver chips and the ankimo went together surprisingly well — a light, easy dish to pick at alongside a draft beer!
Finishing with seafood fried rice on a hot plate, 20,000 won
At this point we were pretty full, but I still wanted some rice, you know? Haha, so we ordered the seafood fried rice on a hot plate. I didn't expect much from fried rice at a bar, but wow, it was actually really good haha. Ended up finishing dinner properly, nice and full!
Is Wakoan Suseong Beomeo Branch a good date-night bar in Beomeo-dong?
This was Wakoan, a Beomeo-dong izakaya where we had a great time on a date over drinks in a lovely atmosphere after a while. The snacks were tasty, but the vibe made it easy to just sit and talk, and apparently they're rolling out lunch and dinner specials soon! They're also planning a collab sushi menu with Jinbe Sushi, a well-known sushi spot in Suseong-gu, so I'm definitely planning to come back haha.
If you're looking for an atmospheric izakaya or a great date-night bar in Beomeo-dong, I'd recommend Wakoan :)
