Sokcho bakery review event: free potato bread at Bultan Gamja Bread

Hey everyone, it's Mingming! I went on a family trip to Sokcho last weekend. When you travel to Sokcho you get to eat a lot of delicious food, but I'm always also thinking about simple snacks or souvenirs to grab along the way — this time I found a really different spot: Sokcho Bultan Gamja Bread!

This place sells Sokcho potato bread and Sokcho squid jjondeugi in a space you can also use like a café, so it was a good place to stop for snacks. The exterior especially left a strong impression, so I'd recommend it to anyone looking for a fun spot during a Sokcho trip.

What does the Sokcho Bultan Gamja Bread exterior look like?

The first thing that caught my eye arriving at Sokcho Bultan Gamja Bread Main Store was the building's exterior. The café is huge but the exterior vibe was totally hip and exciting?! Cute characters were painted all over the place, which kids would especially love — it felt like the owner had decorated it playfully by hand.

And near the entrance I spotted a sign that said: potatoes 100% domestic, staff 100% pure domestic too. I couldn't help but laugh when I saw this haha. That kind of small touch of humor made me feel good even before walking in.

How much do potato bread and squid jjondeugi cost?

What I ordered was one box of Sokcho Bultan Gamja Bread and one set of Sokcho squid jjondeugi. The potato bread is 10,000 won for a box of 4, and you get 10% off if you buy 3 boxes. The squid jjondeugi is 10,000 won for 12 pieces! So I paid 20,000 won total. If you're looking for snacks to bring back for family or friends on a Sokcho trip, picking up one of each like this seems like a good option.

Sokcho Bultan Gamja Bread doesn't only sell snacks — you can also order drinks like at a café. Looking at the menu, there were coffees and teas including espresso, Americano, café latte, vanilla latte, and Earl Grey. So besides just taking away potato bread or jjondeugi, it seemed nice to sit down at the café and enjoy a drink at your leisure too!

Hip outside, calm wood-tone inside

Since the exterior of Sokcho Bultan Gamja Bread was so striking, I expected the inside to have a similar vibe, but walking in it was a total reversal! Where outside felt hip and exciting, the interior was really clean and calm. With a wood-tone interior, the whole space felt warm and had a distinctly classic café atmosphere.

There was plant styling scattered around too, and looking at all the greenery felt weirdly healing! The floor-to-ceiling windows let you see the scenery outside nicely, and since the weather was great on the day I visited, it felt like you could feel Sokcho's nature from inside the café. It was fun how different the exterior and interior vibes were.

Looking around the interior, I noticed figures on display, and photos of celebrities too — made me wonder if this is a famous spot celebrities have visited. There's also a muse toy you can buy and make yourself, which would be fun if you're visiting with kids. Rather than just a café where you grab a coffee and leave, there are things to look at, so it's fun to just wander around!

How the review event works and what you get

A review event was running when I visited — if you participate, you get one free potato bread, so it seemed worth joining in on that kind of event. If you were already planning to leave a review after your visit anyway, getting an extra potato bread is a total win!

There was also a sign explaining the benefits of potato and squid — potatoes are rich in nutrients, contain dietary fiber, and have antioxidant effects, so they seemed like a decent snack for kids too.

Tasting the potato bread and squid jjondeugi

The potato bread I was most curious about! It looked small at first, but eating it proved otherwise. The dough itself is thin, but it's packed full of potato inside. Literally like the potato itself is crammed in! It was pretty filling since there's so much potato packed inside.

Even though it looked small, one was enough to fill me up! It's good to eat the potato bread right after buying it, but warming it slightly in an air fryer made it even better — the outside gets warm and the potato turns fluffy.

Next up, the Sokcho squid jjondeugi! I tried squid jjondeugi for the first time and it's weirdly addictive. You get that distinct squid flavor along with a slightly sweet taste, so it's the kind of snack you keep reaching for. Rather than a bold, intense snack, it's more the kind of thing to tear off a piece of when your mouth feels bored. At first I thought, how am I going to eat 12 of these, but after one bite I realized I'd finish them fast haha. It seems good to eat one at a time while watching a movie or when you're bored in the car on a trip.

Worth a stop for snacks on a Sokcho trip?

This Sokcho bakery I visited, Sokcho Bultan Gamja Bread, was memorable from the exterior alone, which was fun, and once you step inside it has a calm, classic atmosphere — a place with real reversal charm. Most of all, the Sokcho Bultan Gamja Bread I tried was filling, with a thin dough packed full of potato, and the Sokcho squid jjondeugi I tried for the first time had a sweet taste along with squid flavor that kept me reaching for more! If you're looking for a Sokcho bakery with a different vibe from the usual cafés around town, I'd recommend Sokcho Bultan Gamja Bread. Next time, I want to try warming the potato bread in an air fryer and eating it hot!
