Omokgyo Chinese restaurant with crispy tangsuyuk: Yugwanjang

On a rainy day, I found myself craving hot broth and tangsuyuk, so I went to Yugwanjang Banjeom Omokgyo Branch (유관장반점 오목교역직영점). I ordered Jjin Sagol Seafood Jjamppong, small tangsuyuk, and jjajangmyeon, but the dish I remembered most was the tangsuyuk, with its crisp coating and moist meat.

How do you get there from Omokgyo Station, and where can you park?

The restaurant is on the second floor of the building at 256 Mokdongdong-ro, Yangcheon-gu, Seoul, directly opposite Hyundai Department Store in Mokdong. It took about two minutes to walk from Omokgyo Station Exit 2. The green sign was easy to spot, and the elevator made getting to the second floor convenient.

There is parking on the first floor of the building, but the number of spaces is limited, so finding a spot did not look easy. If you are driving, it would be worth keeping Mokdong Public Parking Lot across the main road in mind as an alternative.

Was there a wait on a weekday evening?

When I visited on a weekday evening, I was seated right away without waiting. There was a separate waiting area. I thought there could be a wait during peak weekend times, but I did not experience a weekend wait myself.

Is it a good place to sit with family or children?

Inside, there were wood-tone tables and brown leather sofa seats. There were also private room-style spaces, which looked suitable for family meals or group dinners. The facilities were clean when I visited, and the men’s and women’s restrooms were separate. High chairs were available, which looked helpful for visiting with children.

What did you order?

I ordered Jjin Sagol Seafood Jjamppong (찐사골 해물짬뽕), small tangsuyuk (탕수육), and jjajangmyeon (짜장면). I debated between the mini and small tangsuyuk portions, then chose small.

How were the broth and spice level of the seafood jjamppong?

The Jjin Sagol Seafood Jjamppong had a spicy kick along with the deep flavor of beef-bone broth. To my taste, it was more refreshing than intensely stimulating, with a medium level of spice. There was plenty to eat, including whole shrimp, squid, onion, and garlic chives.

Was the small tangsuyuk enough for two people?

The small tangsuyuk, eaten with the other meal dishes, was a generous portion for two people. The coating was not thick, but it stayed crisp for a long time, while the meat inside was moist and tender.

The sauce was sweet and sour, with a good consistency for dipping. Of the dishes I tried, the tangsuyuk was my favorite, so I would order it again if I returned.

What did the jjajangmyeon taste like?

The jjajangmyeon was mildly sweet rather than strongly seasoned. The noodles were springy, and the sauce was evenly mixed in, so I could finish the bowl without finding it heavy. It felt like a straightforward jjajangmyeon focused on the basics rather than a flashy flavor.

Can you visit anytime if it is open 24 hours?

Although the restaurant is introduced as open 24 hours, there was a notice saying that it closes after 9 p.m. on Mondays for staff shifts. If you plan to go late on a Monday, check the operating hours first. The limited parking is another point to keep in mind before visiting.
