When I arrive somewhere on a trip, half the fun is walking around and exploring. This time, though, I'd hurt my toe and couldn't walk far, so about the only thing I could do on this trip was drive around or go on a café tour.

It was a bit disappointing, but I told myself not to push it and just take it easy, so I headed to MIMI Coffee Mill, a café in Dangjin.

Where is MIMI Coffee Mill, and is there parking?

MIMI Coffee Mill is a Sunseong café located in Sunseong-myeon, Dangjin, and thanks to the big sign on the roadside, it's easy to find.

The exterior has the modest feel of a rural mill, but step inside and it opens up into a spacious, comfortable café.

Parking is available right in front of the store, and if it's full, you can also park in front of the neighboring restaurant Wonjo Dwaeji Iyagi.

The entrance door was a bit unusual — a full glass door that lets you go in and out at the same time.

High ceilings, warm lighting, and a mix of different tables and chairs blended together naturally. Even though it was a weekday, there were more customers than I expected, which surprised me a bit.

What is the outdoor garden seating like at MIMI Coffee Mill?

Outside there are seats where you can rest while looking at green trees and grass — on a nice day, it'd be lovely to enjoy your coffee out there.

The phrase "it's so nice because we're together" felt warm too. I heard this café is run by the director of the Dangjin Barista Coffee Academy and was founded by the founder of Myeoncheon Changgo Café.

Even the counter is a table reminiscent of an old-fashioned mill. You can taste fresh, delicious coffee roasted in-house here, which is why this Chungnam café is known both as a local favorite in Dangjin and a coffee spot near the Ami Museum of Art.

MIMI Coffee Mill's signature menu and how to order

The signature menu is what they call the "cream latte big three" — Mimi Cream Latte, Misutgaru Cream Latte, and Black Sesame Latte. The Mimi Cream Latte in particular is a signature item that's sold well over 50,000 cups; the current in-store sign says as many as 80,000 cups sold, which shows just how popular it is.

You can order via the self-order kiosk in the store or directly at the counter.

We got the old-style misutgaru for ₩10,000 (serves two), and to go with our drinks, we also picked palmigalette ₩4,300, cream mocha bun ₩2,600, ham cheese sandwich ₩2,700, glutinous rice soboro bread ₩2,600, and Korean rice almond tuile ₩3,600.

The old-style misutgaru came in a generous serving in a large brass bowl — the visual alone brought back memories of the misutgaru my mom used to mix for me when I was little.

There was fun in pouring it from the big tray into a small stainless bowl to drink, and the nutty, sweet flavor went down refreshingly — a good way to take a break mid-trip.

The portion for two was generous, satisfying both in value for money and in how good it made us feel.

The nutty misutgaru surprisingly paired well with the ham cheese sandwich, and the leftover bread was easy to take home too.

What other drinks does MIMI Coffee Mill serve?

There's also lemon iced tea and lemonade made with 100% fresh-squeezed lemon, strawberry latte, handmade milk tea, and honey latte made with naturally harvested honey.

There are also distinctive options like ssanghwa tea (herbal tonic tea), honey ginger tea, and soft tofu ice cream, so there's plenty of variety to pick from depending on your taste.

Is MIMI Coffee Mill worth a stop on a Dangjin drive?

It had a comfortable feel that didn't make you anxious even if you stayed a long time. Because of my hurt foot I couldn't visit places that require a lot of walking, like the Ami Museum of Art or Myeoncheon Eupseong Fortress, but sitting and resting at the cozy Dangjin café MIMI Coffee Mill was pretty nice too. It's also well-located for stopping by after visiting Solmoe Shrine or Agro Land, so I'd recommend it as part of a Dangjin drive course.

On a trip where I was frustrated at not being able to walk, MIMI Coffee Mill let me spend a relaxed time with a bowl of nutty old-style misutgaru and delicious bread in front of me. Once my leg heals, this is a Chungnam café I'd like to visit again, slowly exploring the surrounding sights this time.
