Gwangju Chinese restaurant set meal for two: Bobae Restaurant Cheomdan

After four solid days of fun in Yongin, I'm finally back in Gwangju..! When you're this exhausted (and sweaty), Chinese food is the answer >< haha. So today I'm introducing a Cheomdan jjamppong spot, Bobae Restaurant Cheomdan branch.

Bobae Restaurant Cheomdan branch: hours and parking

Bobae Restaurant Cheomdan branch is open 24 hours daily, except Thursday when it's 11:00–24:00. Parking is supported if you park at the Cheomdan Apple parking lot (* apparently it fits around 400 cars!) 🚗

Open even at dawn: inside the 24-hour Chinese restaurant in Cheomdan

Bobae Restaurant Cheomdan branch is open 24 hours daily except Thursday, so you can eat there even in the middle of the night — that's the real perk of this Cheomdan 24-hour spot! There are occasionally dine-in customers, but since it's Chinese food, delivery and takeout orders kept coming in nonstop.

What comes in set meal No. 2 for two, and how much it costs

That day we ordered the 2-person set meal No. 2 (₩31,000) and one Zero Cola (₩2,000). The set includes jjajangmyeon + jjamppong + mini tangsuyuk.

We visited as two and ordered the 2-person set meal No. 2 — it's our go-to combo haha — and the composition was so good it's perfectly filling for two people >< haha.

First came the neat side dishes and the Zero Cola! No Chinese meal is complete without something fizzy... haha.

The self-serve bar: free rice and iced Americano

The reason I love Bobae Restaurant is the self-serve bar is amazing. There's something called Bobae Café where you can make yourself an iced Americano after your meal, and you can also grab free rice haha. If you order jjamppong noodles, you can turn it into jjamppong-bap (rice) afterward too — a real Cheomdan lunch spot.

How big are the portions? The surprise of the mini tangsuyuk

Here's the set menu No. 2 for the day, freshly served! The tangsuyuk (sweet and sour pork) wasn't mini at all — it was at least a small-size portion, honestly a huge amount. Total bang for your buck >< hehe. This place isn't just generous with portions, the taste is great too, which is why it's become one of our regular Cheomdan spots.

How the jjamppong at Bobae Restaurant tasted

Slurping noodles in that spicy, tangy broth really made me feel like, yes, this is why I came for jjamppong haha. Jjajangmyeon has a sweet, savory taste while jjamppong is spicy, so ordering both means you get to enjoy two totally different flavors — I loved that.

I'm not exaggerating... I really think Bobae Restaurant is the number one jjamppong spot in Cheomdan ㅠ The broth is rich, and it soaks perfectly into the noodles. It's got a strong smoky wok-hei flavor too, so it's also the best as a drinking snack.

Jjajangmyeon: sweet, nutty and fine with added chili flakes

You can't skip jjajangmyeon at a Chinese restaurant haha. The glossy sauce-topped jjajangmyeon tastes even better when you mix the noodles and sauce evenly — sweet and savory in perfect harmony. The chunjang (black bean paste) sauce was seriously so good I nearly teared up eating it. My boyfriend's style was to sprinkle a ton of chili flakes on top, so we got to enjoy a spicy kick along with it too!

The star of the set: sticky-rice mini tangsuyuk and a hidden dumpling

And here's the heart of the set, the mini tangsuyuk >_< Just eating noodles alone can feel a bit lacking, but having tangsuyuk alongside makes the meal so much more filling... 🥢 We took turns picking pieces to enjoy with the jjajangmyeon and jjamppong. Having crispy tangsuyuk in between bites of jjajang or jjamppong really changes up the texture, which I loved. It's not a secret that being made with sticky rice made it even tastier.

There was even a dumpling hiding inside the tangsuyuk, so we split it evenly between us~~~

Why Bobae Restaurant Cheomdan works for solo diners and pairs

The owner thoughtfully includes toothpicks, disposable mouthwash, and even candy for dessert. If you're looking for lunch in Cheomdan, Gwangju, and eating just jjajangmyeon or jjamppong alone feels like not enough, or if you want to try a variety of Chinese dishes with a friend, definitely run over to Bobae Restaurant Cheomdan branch!
