I was on my way to meet a friend who lives in Yeongjongdo over the weekend and started looking for a café nearby to stop by. That's when I found 5PM sunset hour tucked inside an apartment complex retail block and went straight in!! At first I thought it'd just be a quiet neighborhood café, but the exterior already had a pretty good vibe?! It felt totally different from the cheap coffee chains you see everywhere these days, so I walked right in haha

What is 5PM sunset hour like inside?

5PM sunset hour is a small but cozy café on the first floor of the KCC Switzen commercial building in Yeongjong Haneul City. It's not a big place, but there are a few tables tucked inside, and each corner has a slightly different mood, so you can pick a seat to match your taste.

Warm lighting, old-fashioned props and bookshelves, and even some distinctive music equipment add up to a charm that's different from the trendy cafés you see everywhere now!! That's what gives it character.

Sunday 6pm: the ice cream salt bread was sold out

What really caught my eye at 5PM sunset hour was the bakery case. Salt bread and financiers were lined up, and just looking at them made me want to try one of each. I visited around six on a Sunday evening, so unfortunately the ice cream salt bread was already sold out ㅠㅠ Come early, everyone!!

Still, I could get the plain salt bread and a financier, so I picked those right away!!

How does the salt bread at 5PM sunset hour taste?

The first thing you notice biting into the salt bread is that crisp, shattering exterior. The inside is moist and mild — the best kind of "crispy outside, moist inside." The butter scent isn't overpowering and the saltiness doesn't hit hard either, so it's easy to eat without feeling heavy.

Especially on humid days when bread can go soggy fast, this one held its crispness surprisingly well all the way through, which made it taste even better haha

A lot of people are on the hunt for the best salt bread in Yeongjongdo these days, but personally, a solid, no-frills salt bread like this one stays with me longer. It's not a fancy-looking bread, but the texture and clean flavor of the bread itself really come through, and I thought it would pair really well with coffee. It also looked like something easy to share with kids.

Taking the financier home for the next morning

I didn't eat the financier right away — I packed it to take home instead. I tried it the next morning, and it had a chewy texture with a rich butter flavor that turned out better than I expected.

I wished I'd had a hot coffee to go with it. Next time I visit, I'd like to take my time going through the rest of the bakery menu too!!

What was disappointing at 5PM sunset hour

What I missed out on was not getting to try the coffee, since I visited in the evening. Looking at the menu, it seemed like a place that puts real care into its beans and drinks, and the coffee aroma drifting through the café was lovely too.

So I actually started thinking I'd rather come back in the daytime next time to properly enjoy coffee together with the salt bread.

Terrace with dogs, and parking at 5PM sunset hour

Stepping outside 5PM sunset hour, there's also a small terrace area. With tables and chairs set up, it looks like a nice spot to relax with coffee outside on a nice day.

It also seemed like a good place to stop by briefly with a dog during a walk, and since it's located in an apartment complex retail block, parking and access are pretty convenient!!

More than anything, I was honestly a bit jealous that an apartment complex has a café with this kind of atmosphere and salt bread this good haha Big, crowded cafés are great too, but sometimes a quiet spot in the neighborhood where you can just relax with a piece of bread feels more comfortable, doesn't it?!

I was a bit sorry I couldn't try the coffee this time since it was evening, but after tasting the salt bread and financier, this is a place I'm already looking forward to visiting again!!
