Western date restaurant in Misa: salad to 200g Hanwoo steak, Bokkeriu

In short

Bokkeriu is a Western restaurant on Misadong-ro in Misa, Hanam, Gyeonggi. On Bokkeriu's 2nd floor the writer ate a homemade bacon Caesar salad, a striploin mushroom risotto, lasagna, a Hanwoo (Korean beef) pizza and a 200g Hanwoo 1+ striploin steak in turn, then toured the 3rd floor and terrace. Bokkeriu brings its dishes out one by one, which makes it a good Misa date restaurant for slowly sharing several plates.

I was looking for a Western restaurant with a nice mood out in Misa and ended up at Bokkeriu. We ate on the 2nd floor, and before and after the meal I went up to the 3rd floor too. The inside was quite a bit bigger than I expected, and every space had a different feel.

We ordered everything from the homemade bacon Caesar salad to the striploin mushroom risotto, lasagna, Hanwoo (Korean beef) pizza and a Hanwoo 1+ striploin steak. The food didn't all arrive at once. It came in order: bread first, then salad, risotto, lasagna, pizza and steak, so it was easy to eat slowly. For me the most memorable were the Caesar salad topped with really thick homemade bacon, and the striploin steak that came last.

Where is Bokkeriu, and what are the parking and opening hours?

It's about 10 minutes by car from Misa Station, and it's a good spot to combine with Misa Gyeongjeong Park and the Han River walking path. It's easier to come by car, and there's a dedicated parking sign on the road too, so it wasn't hard to spot when pulling in. Eating here and then wandering over to the Han River or Misa Gyeongjeong Park works well.

Bokkeriu's exterior and the way up to the 2nd floor

On the building's exterior you can still see its former name, TOURNANT, with BOKKE.RIO written below it. Inside, you first meet dark-toned walls and a space lined with wine, and from the entrance it felt much more like a proper restaurant than a bright brunch café.

Go up the stairs and you reach the main dining area. Long strips of lighting run along the stairs, so it looks even more atmospheric in the evening. The 2nd floor is where I ate.

Is Bokkeriu's 2nd floor good for a date?

Bokkeriu's 2nd floor is a bright space in ivory and wood tones, with tables set around large windows. Once you're up there, the mood is much brighter than at the entrance.

The tables aren't packed too close together, so it never felt stuffy. There are big tables too, which looked good for a group, and the window side has soft lighting that makes it quite nice in the evening. The kitchen is visible in the middle like an open kitchen, so you can see a bit of the food being prepared.

If you're looking for a date-night restaurant in Misa, food matters, but I think many people also look at the interior, and Bokkeriu was on the quiet side, good for a calm meal. Staff bring the menu to your table, and once you've decided you call a staff member over to order.

What's on Bokkeriu's 3rd floor?

The 3rd floor is dimmer and a bit darker than the 2nd, with sofas and tables and lots of plants further in. I was curious about it beyond the dining area, so I went up.

There was a separate place to hang coats, and the space leading outside had a terrace-style seating area. With warm lighting and plenty of plants, it felt quite different from the 2nd floor. It looked good for group gatherings or a separate party space, and I hear they actually run private rooms and a space you can rent out.

What we ordered at Bokkeriu, with prices

  • Homemade bacon Caesar salad ₩18,000
  • Lasagna ₩23,000
  • Striploin mushroom risotto ₩29,000
  • Hanwoo pizza ₩30,000
  • Hanwoo 1+ striploin steak 200g ₩79,000

This wasn't a case of just a few light dishes. We ordered across the board, from salad to risotto, lasagna, pizza and steak, so we really got to try a lot, haha.

Ciabatta and butter to start

The first thing out at Bokkeriu was the ciabatta. They brought a big baked ciabatta, sliced, with butter on a small plate.

The outside was baked golden and the inside had big air pockets, so it felt soft and chewy when I picked it up.

Putting butter on while it was warm let it melt slightly into the bread, which made a nice light start to the meal. The bread is quite thick, so a generous layer of butter suited it better than eating it plain.

Homemade bacon Caesar salad, ₩18,000: how thick is the bacon?

Bokkeriu's homemade bacon Caesar salad is ₩18,000, and it isn't just a few bacon bits on top. It comes with really big, thick bacon. It first arrived as one long piece, and once it was cut up for eating, there was a decent amount.

The salad had mixed greens, cherry tomatoes, a boiled egg, cheese and croutons. Above all, the homemade bacon was so thick that even the bacon alone had a great chew. The outside was browned nicely and the inside, thanks to the thickness, wasn't dry.

Eaten with the greens, the bacon's saltiness added to it and made it more filling than a plain salad. The egg yolk was nearly soft-boiled and still moist, so it was nice scooped up with the vegetables.

Personally I'd thought of it as a light salad, but there was quite a lot of bacon, so I was satisfied.

Striploin mushroom risotto, ₩29,000

After the salad came the ₩29,000 striploin mushroom risotto. Big pieces of striploin and mushroom sat on top, with cheese sprinkled in the middle.

The rice was moist, well soaked with sauce, with a subtle mushroom aroma. Scooping up meat and mushroom in one spoonful made it much heavier than the risotto alone.

The striploin wasn't a tiny garnish. There were proper pieces of meat, so meat lovers should like it. There were several mushroom pieces too, nice to alternate with the meat. If you're hunting for a Western dish in Misa and prefer risotto over pasta, Bokkeriu's striploin mushroom risotto is a pretty good pick!

Lasagna, ₩23,000

Next came the ₩23,000 lasagna. It was served in a glass dish with plenty of tomato sauce and cheese on top.

It looks like one block from the outside, but cut open you can see layers of lasagna sheets and sauce stacked inside.

One forkful gives you the tomato sauce first, then a mouthful of cheese behind it.

Eating it with the cheese on top and a sauce that looked like basil pesto added a bit more aroma. The lasagna was better when I scooped up several layers together rather than cutting off one piece at a time.

Hanwoo pizza, ₩30,000: how much Hanwoo beef is on it?

A whole Hanwoo pizza at Bokkeriu

Bokkeriu's Hanwoo pizza is ₩30,000, and the Hanwoo on top is quite chunky, so it catches your eye the moment it arrives. It came out after the lasagna.

Meat pizzas often have only small toppings, but on Bokkeriu's Hanwoo pizza the pieces of beef themselves are big, and you can see the meat right away when you pick up a slice. The crust edge was puffed up thick, and cheese, sauce and Hanwoo sat together in the middle.

Because the Hanwoo comes in big pieces, even one slice lets you really taste the meat. I folded the pizza in half to eat it, and cheese and Hanwoo came in together, which made it quite hearty.

The Hanwoo is fairly strongly seasoned, so it went well with the dough, and I ended up finishing even the crust ends, haha.

Hanwoo 1+ striploin steak, 200g, ₩79,000

Last out was the ₩79,000 Hanwoo 1+ striploin steak, 200g. The steak came on one plate with grilled vegetables, and salt and a side were served alongside.

The surface was seared dark, but cut in half, the inside stayed moist and red. The cross-section came out really well, haha.

Taking a bite, the outside had a grilled aroma and the inside was soft and moist. Of everything I ate that day, the steak was really delicious.

With a browned outside and a moist inside, it was one of my favorites of the day. It was good on its own, and also good with a light dip in salt or with the grilled vegetables.

A bite of striploin steak with vegetables

I tried it with green vegetables on top and with mushrooms too, but the steak itself was so good that I liked just eating the meat plain. At 200g, it was also a fitting size to share at the end when you've ordered several dishes.

In what order does Bokkeriu serve the dishes?

That day the food came in this order: ciabatta → homemade bacon Caesar salad → striploin mushroom risotto → lasagna → Hanwoo pizza → striploin steak. We ordered several dishes at once, but they weren't all put on the table together. They brought them one by one, so we could eat before anything went cold.

Starting with salad, then getting a little heavier with risotto, lasagna and pizza, and ending with the steak made for a good flow to the meal. If you're looking for a date spot in Hanam where you order several dishes and eat slowly, this could be a plus.

Bokkeriu in Misa: final verdict

I visited Bokkeriu in Misa for Western food, ate on the 2nd floor and tried a good range of dishes. The homemade bacon Caesar salad stuck with me because the bacon was much thicker than I expected, and the striploin mushroom risotto was good too, with plenty of meat and mushrooms.

The lasagna had tomato sauce and cheese in layers, and the Hanwoo pizza, topped with big pieces of meat, was quite filling. And the Hanwoo 1+ striploin steak I had last was cooked moist inside, so I especially enjoyed it among everything I ordered that day.

The 2nd floor was a bright, spacious restaurant, and the 3rd floor had a slightly darker-toned space and even a terrace, so it was nice to look around before or after eating. If you're after a date-night restaurant in Misa to pair with Misa Gyeongjeong Park or the Han River, or a Western restaurant in Misa where you can eat several dishes slowly, it's worth a stop. It suited a Hanam date spot that gets both the mood and the food right, haha.
