Misa-dong samgyetang in Hanam: black sesame and sous vide, Baekheukdam
In short
Baekheukdam is a samgyetang (ginseng chicken soup) restaurant on Misa-dong-ro in Hanam, Gyeonggi, known for unusual versions such as black sesame samgyetang and herbal sous vide samgyetang. On a weekend visit with her parents, the writer shared black sesame samgyetang, herbal sous vide samgyetang and baek-ongsimi (chewy rice dumpling soup), and all three differed in broth, tenderness and texture. If you want a restorative meal more interesting than standard samgyetang, Baekheukdam is the place.

Baekheukdam in Misa-dong, Hanam: a weekend samgyetang meal
This weekend I went for some serious body-recovery eating at Baekheukdam, a well-known samgyetang (ginseng chicken soup) restaurant in Hanam :) The weather's been getting colder and colds are going around, so there were a lot of low-energy days lately — and on days like that, warm, hearty food is always what comes to mind.

I was looking for a good samgyetang restaurant in Hanam and landed on Baekheukdam, which seemed like a nice place to take my parents! The parking space is generous too, and it's set in a scenic spot in Mangwol-dong, Hanam, which made it even better.
What to order at Baekheukdam: black sesame samgyetang, herbal sous vide samgyetang, baek-ongsimi
I went in expecting a typical samgyetang menu, but Baekheukdam's lineup turned out to be a bit unusual, which made me more excited. That day we ordered black sesame samgyetang, herbal sous vide samgyetang, and baek-ongsimi (chewy rice dumplings).

The three dishes each had their own character, so if you're visiting with a group, ordering different menus instead of the same samgyetang and sharing seemed like a pretty good idea~

True to the name Baekheukdam, the food uses slightly special ingredients like black sesame and white ongsimi, giving it a different vibe from your typical Hanam samgyetang place.

Samgyetang can easily start feeling all the same, but Baekheukdam felt like it built real distinctions into the menu itself!

What does black sesame samgyetang taste like?
The dish I was most curious about that day was definitely the black sesame samgyetang! With black sesame added, the broth color was clearly different from regular samgyetang, and the nutty flavor of the black sesame added a rich, deep quality to the broth.
Eating the broth together with the chicken, the clean yet nutty flavor worked really well, and it was a slightly different experience from my usual samgyetang.

Maybe because of the black sesame, it's genuinely so~~ nutty and there's not a hint of gaminess — really delicious.

The clean, classic samgyetang broth is nice too, but if you like this kind of nutty flavor, I'd definitely recommend trying the black sesame samgyetang! It comes with fresh ginseng too, which makes it even better.
Herbal sous vide samgyetang: chicken that is never dry
The second dish we tried was the herbal sous vide samgyetang. Probably because it's cooked sous vide, the chicken was notably tender.

Since samgyetang is made by simmering the chicken for a long time, the meat can sometimes end up dry if it's not done right — but the herbal sous vide samgyetang, with its soft chicken, seemed like something people who love tender meat would especially enjoy~

On top of that, there was an herbal aroma that really gave it that body-tonic-food feeling. Personally, switching back and forth between the black sesame samgyetang and the herbal sous vide samgyetang was actually fun.
One's centered on nutty flavor, the other lets you taste tender chicken and herbal notes, so it's nice to pick based on your preference.

Baek-ongsimi at Baekheukdam: chewy rice dumplings in broth
And surprisingly, the dish that stuck with me the most was the baek-ongsimi. It's the ongsimi (chewy rice dumpling) dish my mom loves — if you like chewy dumplings, this was a pretty special menu item too.
If samgyetang is the warm, filling main, baek-ongsimi added a fun change of pace in between thanks to its chewy texture~
Is Baekheukdam a good Hanam samgyetang restaurant to visit with parents?
The black sesame samgyetang, herbal sous vide samgyetang, and baek-ongsimi we tried at Baekheukdam this time each had different flavors and textures, so we got to enjoy a good variety of dishes~

If you'd rather try something a bit different than standard samgyetang, or you're looking for a hearty, restorative restaurant in Hanam, this is a Hanam samgyetang spot worth checking out at least once~

It's easy to assume samgyetang is only for the hottest summer days, but honestly, with its warm broth and tender chicken, it feels like a satisfying meal any season.

If you're like me, looking for a Hanam samgyetang restaurant to visit with your parents and wanting something a bit special, try the Misa branch of Baekheukdam. It's a deeply flavorful samgyetang you'll want to scrape the bowl clean for. Plus, it's near Starfield Hanam, so it's great for lunch followed by some time out!
Next time I'd like to try another menu item, the herbal ugol-tang (beef bone soup) :) On a day when you're craving something restorative in Hanam, from the nutty black sesame samgyetang to the tender herbal sous vide samgyetang, Baekheukdam is the Hanam samgyetang spot to visit! A hearty, well-fed meal for body recovery~!
