When I think of a filling meal, a lot of menus come to mind, and ssambap (wrap rice with meat) is one of them. That day I really wanted a hearty meal, so I went to Dolsoe Ssambap, a ssambap restaurant in Hanam Misa. Doesn't the name alone sound hearty? Haha.

Where is Dolsoe Ssambap in Hanam Misa, and where do you park?

Dolsoe Ssambap is on the 2nd floor of Building A, 165 Misagangbyeon-hangang-ro, Hanam-si. Parking is available inside the building. If you park on the Building A side, you can find the restaurant faster!

Why I ordered the Dolsoe pork bulgogi ssambap set

Among the various menu items, I ordered the Dolsoe pork bulgogi (jeyuk-bokkeum) ssambap set. Pork bulgogi is already a go-to lunch dish for me, and since I was at a ssambap place, I wanted to eat plenty of meat and wrap vegetables. More than anything, I was excited that it wasn't just the pork bulgogi alone — it came with wrap vegetables, side dishes, doenjang stew, and egg custard together.

12 kinds of wrap vegetables to pick from

The first thing that caught my eye at Dolsoe Ssambap was, of course, the wrap vegetables. True to a ssambap restaurant, a whopping 12 kinds of vegetables came out. With such a variety, there's an added fun in choosing which vegetable to wrap the pork bulgogi in each time. And above all, I loved that the vegetables were fresh.

When you're eating meat with a strong seasoning like pork bulgogi, it tastes so much better paired with wrap vegetables, right?

Wrapping the pork bulgogi in fresh vegetables and eating it was really delicious!! Thanks to the variety and generous amount of vegetables, I got to wrap as much as I wanted without ever running short. Since it wasn't just one or two kinds of vegetables but many different ones, even with just one dish of pork bulgogi, I could keep trying different combinations, which I loved.

How does the stir-fried pork (jeyuk-bokkeum) taste?

The main dish of the day, pork bulgogi! It's delicious eaten with rice too, but at a ssambap restaurant, wrapping it is definitely the best way. The seasoned meat went really well with the fresh wrap vegetables. Personally, when pork bulgogi has too strong a seasoning, I get tired of it quickly, but eating it with wrap vegetables made me keep going without feeling weighed down. A bite of meat, a bite of wrap vegetables, a spoonful of rice — before I knew it, a whole bowl of rice had disappeared in no time. The combination of pork bulgogi + wrap vegetables + rice really is delicious no matter how many times I have it.

What comes with the set: 8 side dishes plus egg custard

And Dolsoe Ssambap's ssambap set doesn't just come with the main dish — quite a variety of items are included as standard. With 8 side dishes, egg custard, doenjang stew and rice all included as basics, once the whole table was set, it was pretty generous.

Egg custard as soft as pudding

I especially loved that egg custard came with the meal. While eating the seasoned pork bulgogi, having soft egg custard alongside it in between bites went really well together. Plus, it had the feel of egg custard steamed in a steamer, so the bottom wasn't scorched and it was smooth throughout, like pudding — which made it even better.

Scooping up a spoonful of the warm egg custard and then going back to wrap more pork bulgogi — I couldn't stop reaching for it.

The doenjang stew

And doenjang stew, which is a must with ssambap! Eating the pork bulgogi wraps while also spooning up the doenjang stew broth made me feel like I was really having a proper meal. With not just the main dish but stew and egg custard included too, I liked that I could enjoy a hearty meal without having to order extra dishes on the side.

The ssamjang (dipping sauce) matters a surprising amount when eating ssambap, right? At Dolsoe Ssambap, the ssamjang came out in a stone pot. Snails were even mixed in. Adding a little ssamjang instead of just piling meat on the vegetables definitely brought out more flavor. Even without meat, just putting rice on a wrap vegetable and eating it with the snail ssamjang was really delicious on its own.
