I had to visit Boramae Hospital nearby recently, and while I was in the area, a friend who lives in Bongcheon-dong strongly recommended a restaurant she swears by. That's how I ended up at Sangdo Neulbori Bongcheon Station Branch, a Bongcheon Station kodari (dried pollock) spot known for its spicy-sweet sauce and chewy texture.

Parking right in front of the store, an affordable lunch special, and a self-serve bibimbap corner — everything was pretty much perfect 😋

Right at the entrance, a sign caught my eye: "We strive to be the kind of place one person visits 100 times, rather than one 100 people visit once." And true to that spirit, the owner was so friendly that I had a genuinely pleasant meal 👍🏻

The interior is spacious and comfortable, great for families, and even during the late lunch hour I visited, there were plenty of office workers and older groups eating together.

Sangdo Neulbori Bongcheon Station Branch has a self-serve bibimbap corner and sungnyung (roasted rice tea). Big bowls for bibimbap, seasoned vegetables, gochujang, and sesame oil are all there to help yourself to.

Before I even sat down, one spot caught my eye — the self-serve bibimbap corner.

Along with the large bowls for bibimbap, there were seasoned vegetables, gochujang, and sesame oil all set out and ready.

There's also sungnyung to enjoy after the meal, and having a warm cup after eating was really nice!

The signature menu at Sangdo Neulbori Bongcheon Station Branch is kodari (dried pollock) and jjukkumi (baby octopus), with kodari available original, with dried radish greens, or with abalone. Since I'd just come from the hospital, I ordered a small abalone braised pollock along with two bowls of rice, for a bit of extra nourishment.

The softly cooked abalone was really delicious. We shared them evenly, two each 💛

True to its reputation as a Bongcheon Station kodari spot, the pollock had a chewy texture and a sauce that wasn't too intense — the kind of flavor you keep reaching for.

With half a bowl of rice left after eating with the braised pollock, I mixed it up with vegetables I'd brought over from the self-serve bibimbap corner.

My friend, a real Bongcheon-dong local, is a regular here, and the recommendation lived up to it — this really is a genuine kodari favorite. Convenient parking in front, spicy-sweet chewy abalone braised pollock, and even a self-serve bibimbap corner with sungnyung — there was nothing to complain about from start to finish.
