Daegu Korean restaurant before a Gangjeong Weir outing: Hyangtaek

Hyangtaek Seongseo Keimyung University Branch is a Korean rice-bowl restaurant in Dalseo, Daegu, across from the main gate of Keimyung University's Seongseo Campus and near Gangchang Station. Before an autumn outing to Gangjeong Weir, the writer stopped at Hyangtaek with Mom and a baby for Spanish mackerel gondre rice (14,000 won) and eggplant doenjang rice bowl (13,000 won), and found the taste and atmosphere on par with the Dongdaegu and Daebong branches. Hyangtaek Seongseo Keimyung University Branch is a solid pick when you want a clean, mild Korean meal with your parents.

Daegu raw beef pub for group dinners: chadol & mungtigi at Mihyang

Mihyang Mungtigi Dongdaegu Station branch is a retro-style mungtigi (fresh raw beef) pub in Dong-gu, Daegu, within walking distance of Shinsegae Department Store at Dongdaegu Station. We ordered the chadol (beef brisket) and mungtigi half-and-half and the yukhoe bibimbap. The many side dishes, including flat dumplings, beef radish soup and donggeurangttaeng (pan-fried meat patties), tea served in place of water and friendly service stood out. If you have only tried plain mungtigi, Mihyang Mungtigi is worth a visit to try raw chadol sashimi as well.

Makchang grill in Jongno, Daegu for a birthday dinner: Bongja Makchang

Bongja Makchang Daegu Jongno Branch is a Korean BBQ restaurant in Jongno, Jung-gu, Daegu, where raw pork belly and raw makchang (grilled intestine) are cooked together on the same grill. For her birthday, the writer left the baby with her in-laws and went out with her husband, ordering the Bongja Hanpan platter and enjoying steamed egg, self-serve ramyeon and cereal patbingsu (shaved ice with sweet red beans). The cereal patbingsu, which she kept eating even when full, was the most memorable part of a satisfying birthday dinner at Bongja Makchang.

Gyodong Nakwon (교동낙원) is an izakaya at Gongpyeong Intersection on Gukchaebosang-ro in Jung-gu, Daegu. For her birthday, the blogger left the baby with her in-laws, had dinner with her husband in Samdeok-dong, then came to Gyodong Nakwon for a second round of the limited-menu roll cabbage (cabbage rolls, 14,000 won) and a small aged salmon sashimi (27,000 won). Daejeon steak restaurant for a mother-daughter trip: Seoreojeong

Seoreojeong Munji Branch is a wood-toned steak restaurant in Munji-dong, Yuseong, Daejeon. On her first trip with her mother, the writer ordered the C set (top blade steak, chop steak, mini udon, fries and an ade) and liked the neatly trimmed top blade steak and the chop steak, which wasn't tough. Seoreojeong Munji Branch is a good pick for anyone who cares about meat texture or wants a calm meal with their parents.

Daegu briquette BBQ for a company dinner: pork skirt meat, Sangnok

Sangnok Hoegwan Yeontan Gui Goseong Branch is a briquette-grilled pork restaurant in Goseong-dong, Buk-gu, Daegu, near Bukgucheong Station, that also serves seafood from its own aquarium tanks. The writer ordered the Dwaeji Han-geun pork set (pork belly, pork neck, five-layer pork belly, jowl-neck pork and Handon pork skirt meat) plus cheese scallops, grilled everything over briquettes, and praised the juicy meat, the smoky flavor and how the cheese and sauce came together on the scallops. Sangnok Hoegwan Goseong Branch is a solid pick for a company dinner or a second or third round near Bukgucheong Station when you want meat and seafood at one table.

Oneuldo Gajami is a Pohang sashimi restaurant that pairs sea views with fresh raw fish, ideal for a long-awaited couple date after giving birth.

Beomeo-dong, Daegu burgers: a 50-day-old's first meal out at Downtown

Downtown Daegu Believe Heritage is a handmade burger restaurant in Suseong, Daegu, near Daegueunhaeng Station. For a 50-day-old baby's first meal out, the writer wheeled the stroller straight into Downtown Daegu Believe Heritage and ordered a Double Cheese Truffle burger, an Egg Bulgogi Smash burger and original fries. Alternating between the rich truffle burger and the mild bulgogi burger made a satisfying pair, and Downtown Daegu Believe Heritage was an easy burger spot to visit with a baby.
