Why I booked the PGA scalp spa at Heiro Jamsil Lotte World

Lately my forehead and crown area started bothering me. I've always had a lot of hair, but no matter which way I part it these days, the scalp shows through quite a bit, and it's been low-key bugging me every time I take a photo. It's not urgent enough to do anything drastic, but I figured I'd start with some scalp care, so this time I got the PGA scalp spa at Heiro Jamsil Lotte World.

This was my first time getting a scalp spa at a hair salon, so I was curious what it would feel like. It turned out to involve more steps than I expected, and the refreshed feeling in my scalp lasted a long time afterward, which I was happy about.

Getting to Heiro: Lotte World ice rink, basement level 3, and parking

Heiro Jamsil Lotte World is inside Lotte World itself, so the location is really convenient. It's right along the way to the Jamsil Lotte World ice rink, so it's easy to spot as you pass by, and it's right next to the escalator so it was easy to find.

If you drive, the store entrance is right in front on the B3 parking level too, so getting from your car to the shop was easy. There's also a big head spa sign posted, so I could tell right away, "ah, this is the place."

The interior overall felt bright and warm. It didn't have that slightly cluttered feel some salons have — it was bright and pleasant, so I didn't feel any hesitation walking in. It seemed like a nice atmosphere to visit while looking for a Jamsil hair salon for women's hair.

Near the entrance there's a spacious waiting area, and a variety of Heiro's own in-house hair products are displayed there too. It was nice to browse the products while waiting for my treatment, and there were more kinds than I expected, so it was fun to look around.

They also run a VIP membership, where you prepay and deduct from it at a discounted rate each visit, which seems handy if you visit the salon often. Especially for head spas, since it's better to get them regularly rather than just once, a membership might be worth considering if you're planning to come back often.

My crown before the treatment, and what a scalp spa actually is

And now, the actual scalp spa begins. This is what my crown looked like before treatment. No matter which direction I part my hair, quite a bit of scalp shows through. It's only recently started bothering me, so I wasn't expecting a single session to bring a dramatic change — I just wanted to give my scalp condition some care for once.

A scalp spa is basically a treatment that cleans up sebum, dead skin, and buildup on the scalp, and relaxes it through massage and steam. It's not a treatment that cures hair loss itself, but it seems worth trying at least once if your scalp usually feels stuffy, if sebum or flaking bothers you, or if washing your hair never quite feels refreshing.

I visited on a hot day, and they brought me an iced americano too, which was nice. The weather was so hot that day, and sipping a cold coffee while getting treated felt good right from the start.

Step 1: cooling the scalp

The scalp care began with a product Heiro says it produces in-house. The first step gave a cooling sensation on the scalp, and it was way cooler than I expected. My scalp had felt a bit heated from the hot weather, and this cold rush made my scalp feel a lot more comfortable.

Step 2: applying the scalp pack

Next was a step where a pack-like product is applied to the scalp. I regularly take care of my facial skin, and it occurred to me that the scalp is skin too, so it makes sense it needs this kind of care. After carefully applying the product, there's a waiting period. Usually at a salon I only get a haircut and a blow-dry, so getting this kind of focused scalp care felt distinctly different.

Step 3: steam in a private shampoo room

Next, the treatment moved to a private one-person shampoo room. Product was applied to the scalp again, followed by a steam session. They said they use a spa-specific shampoo too, and it was quite cooling as well.

Even though it was a hot day, I hadn't sweated much since I'd been indoors, but the designer taking care of me, teacher Koi, mentioned that my scalp runs quite hot. It made me wonder if that's connected to my recent hair shedding, which made me a little more self-conscious. Of course one treatment doesn't fix hair loss, but the cool, refreshed feeling in my scalp during the treatment itself was satisfying.

During the steam, there was a warm, loosening sensation, and it definitely felt like a proper treatment.

Step 4: the finishing spray

After the shampoo, they sprayed something onto my scalp again. There were so many steps that at first I thought, "so this is how many stages a scalp spa actually involves."

Right after the treatment, touching my hair, my scalp felt clean and refreshed with no stuffy feeling at all. Surprisingly, that refreshed feeling stuck around even a good while later, which I liked.

The best blow-dry of my life, taken instead of a haircut

And honestly, the thing I most want to talk about in this review is this. I met the blow-dry of a lifetime.

Originally I only planned to get the scalp spa and trim the ends a little. It had been about two months since my perm, and the wave was only slightly left at the bottom, so the designer said cutting it now, in this in-between state, might make the curl look less pretty, and recommended against a haircut. I appreciated that she was honest, saying it's better to keep the current state than regret cutting it later. So I decided to console myself with a blow-dry instead.

But as she blow-dried my hair, her touch was clearly different. She mentioned she trained specifically in blow-drying, and it really showed compared to how I do it at home. The curls weren't set too tightly, yet the wave came back naturally, and my whole head looked calm yet full of volume. Especially, it wasn't an overly artificial curl but had a naturally flowing feel, which I really liked.

I wish I could dry it like this myself every time after washing my hair.

If you're looking for a hair salon in Jamsil that's good at blow-drying, it might be worth coming just for a blow-dry on an important day like this. If you have an event or appointment on the weekend and want to get your hair styled somewhere close by, Jamsil has great transit access, and being inside Lotte World makes it really convenient. In particular, the style wasn't overly stiff or tightly curled — it naturally brought out volume and waves, which I personally liked.

The PGA scalp spa I tried for the first time this visit was also more satisfying than I expected. One session won't suddenly make my crown fuller, but it seems like it'd be good to get regular care while my scalp is on my mind these days. Above all, I liked that the cool, refreshed feeling in my scalp after the treatment lasted quite a while.

Would I go back to Heiro Jamsil Lotte World?

An unexpected bonus in the blow-dry. Between the scalp care and the blow-dry I loved, I'd definitely visit again. Next time, it'd be nice to get the scalp spa and then have my hair styled with a blow-dry before an important appointment or event.
