From the carefully thought-out interior to beef quality that really brings out the ingredients' natural flavor, this place manages to have it both ways — and I kept thinking about it long after I left. Sutbul Seonghwa is on the 1st floor at 17 Songpa-daero 48-gil, Songpa-gu, Seoul, between Jamsil Station and Seokchon Station. It's open from 11:00 AM to 1:00 AM the next day, with a break time from 3:00 PM to 5:00 PM and last order at midnight.

A quick note before you go: since it's such a popular restaurant in the Jamsil area, there can be a bit of a wait on weekends or during the evening peak. Luckily you can reserve through CatchTable, so I highly recommend checking in advance before heading over.

Every time we come to Sutbul Seonghwa, we order the signature seonghwa modum (assorted beef platter) 400g — that amount is just right for two people to eat comfortably full. It's a mix of various cuts, so it doesn't get boring and I kept reaching for more.

The side dishes are neatly set out as soon as you order! You can feel the care put in just from the basic banchan (side dishes), right?

Personally, the salted-ice radish salad is my favorite. The crisp, cool texture pairs really well with the beef, and once you finish it, you can ask staff for a refill anytime.

If you can't feel it, something's wrong with your eyesight........ The juiciness spreading through was so moving I could've cried. Crispy outside, tender inside, the perfect doneness, and with each bite there was a subtle charcoal aroma that kept my chopsticks going back for more.
