Dong-gu, Ulsan Chinese restaurant: stone jjamppong vs stone jjajang
In short
Ulsan Daewangam Dol Jjamppong is a Chinese restaurant on Ilsanjin 5-gil in Dong-gu, Ulsan that serves noodles on 250°C hornblende stone plates. The writer ordered scorched-rice stone-plate jjamppong for two (25,000 won) and scorched-rice stone-plate jjajang for two (24,000 won) at the same time to compare them with her husband and elementary-school child, and received a handmade pomegranate ade through the receipt review event. Her child picked the stone jjajang and her husband the stone jjamppong, so Ulsan Daewangam Dol Jjamppong is worth revisiting for a different dish each time.

I was near Daewangam Park in Ulsan and getting hungry, so I searched for a good spot nearby and found this place‼️
✨ Ulsan Daewangam Dol Jjamppong 🍜
I wanted jjajangmyeon and jjamppong with my kid, and then I found out the jjamppong comes out on a 🔥stone plate — it looked so unusual and I got really excited 😍

Today I'm sharing an honest review of my visit to "Ulsan Daewangam Dol Jjamppong" with my kid :)
What kind of place is Ulsan Daewangam Dol Jjamppong?
I'd heard of stone-plate jjajang before, but this was my first time hearing about stone-plate jjamppong. Turns out there are only 3 places like this in the whole country. This one only runs directly-operated branches, so you get the original taste as intended.

At Ulsan Daewangam Dol Jjamppong, the flavor apparently changes 3 times as it keeps simmering on the 🔥250°C amphibole stone plate.
- First, a rich broth jjamppong flavor from chicken stock
- Second, a stir-fried jjamppong flavor mingled with crunchy bean sprouts
- Third, a yakiudon jjamppong flavor where the sauce has soaked all the way into the noodles
🧑🍳 Since it's cooked to order and no starch is added, the stone-plate jjajang also felt clean and rich at the same time :)

Inside the restaurant and what makes it easy with kids
Maybe because it's near Daewangam in Ulsan, there was a strong sea breeze, and I liked the exterior — totally different vibe from a regular Chinese restaurant — plus the 🚗spacious parking lot.

There were photos of the stone-plate jjamppong and jjajang all over the inside and outside of the restaurant, so you could really feel their pride in the food❗️
There was a memorable sign inside the restaurant that said, "4 people can order a medium, 2 people can order a large — order as much as you want, no need to be shy about the amount."

It's popular enough that there's usually a wait, so besides table-management they also had a waiting area with chairs set up.
At the entrance there was a basket full of yogurts and rice crackers, and they even had a baby-food microwave, kids' tableware, and a high chair, so bringing a baby or young child felt totally manageable💛
At the self-serve bar there was 🍚unlimited rice along with pickled radish and green onion kimchi as a self-serve corner, so you could help yourself without feeling shy. You could really feel the confidence in their food and the consideration for guests :)

The interior was quite large too — no private rooms, but split into two sections so you could eat comfortably in a spacious area, and there was group seating available too.🪑🪑

Scorched-rice stone-plate jjamppong for two, 25,000 won
I could tell why this restaurant is named 'Daewangam Dol Jjamppong.' There was a real reason it's the signature dish.
They said the flavor changes 3 times on the 🔥250°C amphibole stone plate, and I really felt that happening exactly as described.
It came piled high with bean sprouts, and underneath were shrimp, squid, clams and other seafood along with noodles, and scorched rice at the very bottom — the amount of ingredients was impressive. Watching it sizzle away on the stone plate made my mouth water haha
The first bite had a 🔥smoky char flavor, somewhere between yakiudon and ganjjamppong (dry-style jjamppong). It wasn't very spicy so even my elementary-schooler enjoyed it, and with the broth pooled at the bottom, eating the noodles and seafood together gave an explosion of savory flavor‼️

🦑Squid, 🍤whole shrimp and other seafood were piled generously, and the crunch of the bean sprouts made it even better — searing the scorched rice underneath the ingredients on the stone plate as you eat made my stomach feel even more settled.
Scorched-rice stone-plate jjajang for two, 24,000 won
The stone-plate jjajang also came sizzling on the stone plate with seafood and scorched rice, and it was overwhelming just from the visuals.
It had jjajang's signature savory taste plus smoky char and a sweetish edge, so it was a bit different from any jjajangmyeon I'd had before, but the sauce unique to the stone-plate version exceeded my expectations✨

They said no starch goes into this jjajangmyeon, and I really felt that — it was somewhere between Chapagetti (instant jjajang noodles) and jjajangmyeon, plus that smoky char. The stone jjajang also has scorched rice underneath, so it felt a bit like eating jjajang-fried rice, which made it feel even more special.

Whole shrimp, squid, quail eggs, onion and other varied ingredients blended with the sauce, so it never got tiring and I could really taste the clean, essential jjajang flavor, which I liked.
My kid especially loved it, and I sprinkled 🌶️chili powder on mine, which was also delicious in its own way.
The real kicker at this restaurant was the green onion kimchi‼️
Maybe because the flavor sits somewhere between jjajangmyeon and Chapagetti, it went especially well with the green onion kimchi. It wasn't just ordinary Chinese-restaurant jjajangmyeon — eating the sizzling stone-plate noodles with seafood and green onion kimchi🌶️✨ felt like a special meal out.
➕Rice refills are unlimited too, so I'd also recommend mixing rice🍚 into the pooled sauce at the bottom‼️
Stone jjamppong vs stone jjajang: which one won?
This was as big a debate as "who do you like better, mom or dad"‼️

My kid liked the stone-plate jjajang better, and my husband liked the stone-plate jjamppong better. It's less about which is objectively tastier and more about personal preference, so rather than coming just once, I think it's worth ordering something different every visit.
The stone-plate jjamppong lived up to its status as the restaurant's main dish — a jjamppong packed with smoky char, somewhere between yakiudon and stir-fried jjamppong,

while the stone-plate jjajang felt like a special jjajangmyeon boosted with a variety of seafood and green onion kimchi.
Other dishes and the handmade pomegranate ade
I didn't get to try it, but the menbosha (fried shrimp toast) looked really good, and I definitely want to try the handmade chi-tang next time — it seems like a mix of sweet-and-sour pork and fried chicken.

Through the receipt review event, you can get a handmade citron/pomegranate ade worth ₩5,000 — and it was genuinely a handmade syrup ade, not something store-bought🍹

A lot of places just give you a canned drink for their receipt review event, but tasting a handmade pomegranate ade good enough to be sold at a café made me feel well taken care of, and it went really well with both the stone jjajang and stone jjamppong.
Right around when I was getting full, one sip of the ade cleared my palate and made me want to eat more haha
As a finishing touch on the way out, the yogurt and rice crackers for dessert were a nice touch too💛
Where else to go near Daewangam Park
This place is famous for its stone jjamppong, but there are also lots of well-known tourist spots nearby, so it makes a great food-and-sightseeing course.
You could stop by for a meal after visiting Ulsan Daewangam Park, Ilsanjin Beach, Ilsan Breakwater, Seuldo, Bangeojin, or the suspension bridge, or explore the sights afterward to help digest.
Final thoughts on Ulsan Daewangam Dol Jjamppong
