Where is Simdon Mokpo Pyeonghwagwangjang Branch?
Simdon Mokpo Pyeonghwagwangjang Branch is a pre-grilled Korean BBQ restaurant on Wonhyeong-ro near Mokpo's Pyeonghwa Square. Even after four years living in Mokpo, I still find so many restaurants I haven't tried. Today, my husband, Taetae, and I visited Simdon Mokpo Pyeonghwagwangjang Branch, a Mokpo restaurant near Pyeonghwa Square.

You can spot the yellow sign from far away, so it was really easy to find!

The interior design at the entrance door was cute and pretty, so I took a photo of it. A table reservation is a must during peak hours!

Inside Simdon: seating and table layout
The inside of Simdon Mokpo Pyeonghwagwangjang Branch was much more spacious and clean than I expected. The open center made it feel airy, not cramped, and the tables were bigger than at other Korean BBQ places, so it was comfortable for setting down our things and eating.

Simdon's menu and what we ordered
The menu has signature grilled platters — the Simdon mixed platter, whole pork belly platter, flower pork neck platter, and simdeotsal (pork skirt) platter — along with a variety of desserts like milmyeon (cold wheat noodles), fried rice, and hot pots.
- Simdeotsal platter (medium)
- Cheese bomb egg casserole
- Beef bone broth milmyeon

Simdon's five sauces and the order to eat them in
Here's a tip! A sign on the wall titled "How to Enjoy It" explains the order to try the sauces. First, try roasted seaweed + pickled radish + herring roe for Simdon's special flavor. Second, try Maldon salt + wasabi to enjoy the meat's natural savoriness. Third, try the special sauce with scallion salad for an addictive, clean finish. And since the platter is grilled before serving, it takes 15–20 minutes!

Side dishes and the beef brisket soybean paste rice
We got beef brisket soybean paste rice, scallion salad, special sauce scallions, pickled radish, wild garlic, seaweed, more pickled radish, and lettuce. The sauces included soybean powder, teriyaki sauce, wasabi with herring roe, cumin, and ssamjang, so it was fun mixing them to taste.

The beef brisket soybean paste rice came bubbling in a stone pot, and when I stirred it I was surprised to find rice already inside. It wasn't too salty, just the right amount, with a deep, savory soybean paste aroma. If you like drinking, this dish alone could keep you there all night. (It was so good I finished it instantly...)

Simdeotsal platter (medium): grilled for you before serving
How the simdeotsal pork skirt tastes
Finally, the main event — the simdeotsal (pork skirt) platter! It comes fully pre-grilled, piled high with simdeotsal, pork skin, enoki mushrooms, king oyster mushrooms, greens, onion, bean sprouts, kimchi, and even pineapple. Not having to grill it myself made it so easy to eat while looking after the baby. The visuals were amazing... one of the best restaurants in Mokpo, for sure.
The pork skin was totally my type! It had tight scoring cuts and was on the thicker side, so it kept its chewiness. Really soft and springy!

I put meat, wasabi, herring roe, and scallions on a piece of pickled radish and took a bite — spicy, salty, and savory, I kept reaching for more. Wrapping meat, wild garlic, and scallion salad in lettuce gave a crunchy texture and flavor combo that was excellent too. This was really delicious.

Bomb cheese steamed egg and beef-bone broth milmyeon
The cheese bomb egg casserole was true to its name — a real bomb. The cheese came piled up over the stone pot as if about to overflow, stealing the show visually. It was soft and savory, a flavor a kid could enjoy too!
We ordered the beef bone broth milmyeon as a palate cleanser after the meat, and taking spoonfuls of the tangy broth felt like it washed all the grease away. The seaweed flakes, kimchi, and sesame oil aroma all came together for a clean, refreshing finish.

It's been a while since I've enjoyed meat this much. If a friend visits Mokpo, seafood is great, but I'd also recommend Simdon for dinner without hesitation.
Even celebrities have visited, haha!

Is Simdon okay to visit with a baby?
At Simdon Mokpo Pyeonghwagwangjang Branch, as soon as we mentioned we had a baby, they brought a baby chair right away, which made dining out with a baby easy. The staff were all very kind too. Eating out with a baby often comes with worries, but here that burden felt much lighter.
Overall, since the meat comes pre-grilled, you can eat comfortably without the hassle of grilling it yourself, and the side dishes and sauce lineup were substantial too — a good-value Korean BBQ restaurant in Mokpo. I'd recommend it for family gatherings with kids or anyone eating near Pyeonghwa Square. If you're looking for good food in Mokpo and want to eat out comfortably with a baby, how about Simdon Mokpo Pyeonghwagwangjang Branch??
