Mom-and-daughter drinks in Dongtan: dried pollock and egg roll at Sin
In short
Sin Gagye Maekju Namgwangjang is a retro-style bar at the entrance to Dongtan's food street in Hwaseong, Gyeonggi. The writer ordered a full course with her mom — the signature dried pollock, spicy red wings and drumettes with fries, and a mozzarella egg roll — refilling the free fried crackers three times. The hand-trimmed dried pollock, grilled fresh in-store, turned out to be the must-order dish.

Today I went with my mom for a cozy drink and some good food at a buzzing gamaekjip (beer-and-snacks pub)-style bar in Dongtan's Namgwangjang area!
It's Sin Gagye Maekju Namgwangjang, right at the entrance to Dongtan's food street, so it's super easy to find! The place has that retro-yet-modern newtro vibe going on, which made it the perfect spot to relax with a drink.

The vibe: a spacious hall with a big screen
The interior was really clean and spacious, plus there's a huge screen set up — perfect for watching a sports game while drinking beer!

The free side snack, fried crackers, refilled three times
As soon as we sat down, they brought out the sugar-dusted fried crackers, a nostalgic classic, as the free side snack,

and they were crunchy-sweet with an addictive taste I couldn't stop picking at... We refilled three times, haha.

The full course we ordered together

That day, my mom and I went all out and ordered a full course of the best-sounding dishes!

1. Signature dried pollock (₩18,900)
This place is seriously dedicated to their dried pollock.

They hand-pick the bones out of the whole dried pollock in-store and prepare the skin and flesh separately before grilling it — you could really feel the care put into the ingredients!

The flesh was crispy and nutty, and the skin was as crunchy as a cracker — dipped in the special cheongyang chili mayo sauce and the buldak (fire chicken) sauce, it was exactly the kind of flavor that calls for beer. I picked the high-protein dried pollock with a bit of a diet-conscience, and it turned out to be a great choice, hahaha, ugh.

2. Spicy red wings & drumettes + fries (₩15,900)
This is chicken wings and drumettes soaked in a sweet-and-spicy special red sauce, served with a generous portion of crispy, nutty fries — plenty filling and satisfying!!

Can you feel the crunch here? Haha. I dipped mine deep into the cheongyang chili mayo sauce... that's the real trick, haha.

3. Mozzarella egg roll, medium (₩11,900)
Packed full of mozzarella cheese inside, it stretched every time I picked it up with chopsticks — a real treat! Pairing it with the spicy dishes felt easy on the stomach, haha.

Verdict — good for a first round or a second round
The 'signature dried pollock,' hand-trimmed and grilled crisp in-store rather than the pre-packaged kind, is an absolute must-order!
From wallet-friendly snacks to hearty main dishes, there's enough variety that it works well as a first-round meal-and-drink spot or as a second-round stop. With the big screen and genuinely friendly staff, we had a great time the whole way through.
