Why I went for Chef Cho's Peach Berry cake in peach season
I heard that Chef Cho Shinsegae Department Store Gangnam had a peach cake out, so I went to buy the Peach Berry cake. I've been addicted to flour for about 6 months and still can't shake it, haha. It's peach season, so peach cakes are launching all over the place and I wanted to try one.🍑🍑

Chef Cho is famous for cakes in Gangnam, and since it had launched a peach cake too, I paid a visit.

Where is Chef Cho in Shinsegae Gangnam?
Chef Cho Shinsegae Department Store Gangnam is at the entrance to Sweet Park on B1, so it's easy to find. Shinsegae Gangnam is huge and I worried it would be hard to spot, but off I went in search of Chef Cho.

Heading toward the dessert side of Sweet Park, I found that Chef Cho sits right at the Sweet Park entrance on B1 of Shinsegae Gangnam, so it's really easy to find!

What cakes are in Chef Cho's showcase?
At Chef Cho's Shinsegae Gangnam branch they sell fresh-fruit cakes, chocolate strawberry cake, Dark Chocolate Forest and Pistachio Forest cakes. It even appeared on Korean TV show "Master of Living" (생활의 달인) as one of the "four heavenly kings" of cake. If you walk past this shop you can't help but stare, because it's packed with cakes that look amazing....!!!

They sell fresh-fruit cakes, chocolate strawberry cake, Dark Chocolate Forest and Pistachio Forest cakes.

There's also a good variety of delicious-looking fruit crepe rolls and slice cakes.

What stands out most are the fresh mango, strawberry and peach cakes. The whole cakes come in mini sizes too, which seems good for a dessert.
Do you have to buy Chef Cho's cooler bag?
At Chef Cho they said they'll put your cake in a cooler bag for an extra ₩3,000. Cold is everything for cake, so it seems like a really necessary service. But even if you don't pay, a small ice pack is attached to the cake by default!

I got the Peach Berry cake with only the basic packaging. It has peaches and strawberries and costs ₩53,000. Off I go with this heavy, fruit-loaded cake toward home.....

Chef Cho is said to be a premium cake brand that adds sensory design to a master pastry chef's care and skilled technique..! When I opened the packaging, the ice pack was attached. I'd come an hour's distance, and I was surprised the cake was still cold.

How was the fruit on the Peach Berry cake?
Chef Cho's Peach Berry cake was piled with big strawberries and firm peaches (known in Korea as "ttakbok", the crunchy kind). When I opened the cake box, the fruit felt bigger and fresher than it had looked inside the shop's showcase.

Strawberry and peach together... it's nothing but sweet, tasty fruit.

The peaches are the firm kind. Come to think of it, it would probably be hard to make a cake with soft, juicy peaches, hahaha.

You could really tell how fresh the fruit was! The strawberries were really big, and the peaches were ripe and high in sugar.

I took off the cake band and dug in, toppling the heaped-up fruit in a big avalanche.

How are Chef Cho's whipped cream and sponge?
Trying this Gangnam fresh cream cake from Chef Cho, it's full of milk flavor and feels soft and light, disappearing the moment it hits your mouth. It's moderately sweet and the sponge is really fluffy and tender, a taste anyone would like without any divide. Maybe because the cake had just been made, there wasn't a single dry spot in the sponge, and none of the fruit was dried out or mushy. I toppled the fruit down, hahaha, and dug in with my fork.

The Peach Berry cake has fruit, including big pieces of peach, tucked inside as well as on top, so there's even the fun of discovering and eating them.
Is Chef Cho Shinsegae Gangnam worth queuing for?
When I ordered my cake, a lot of people were lining up to buy, and I can see why. There were tons of foreigners too....haha. If you're looking for dessert at Shinsegae Gangnam, or a Shinsegae Gangnam cake, I recommend giving Chef Cho a try.
