I first fell for the rubber duck omurice on Instagram, and I finally made it to Omil Hongdae, this Hongdae favorite 🫶🫶 Right now it's summer season, so the Summer Vacation Rubber Duck Omurice is running until August 31 — make sure to visit before the month's out!!
It's a famous restaurant so there's usually a wait — on CatchTable, 2 parties were ahead at 7pm on a weekday, but when I showed up at 7:20pm, I walked straight in with no wait!

Walk into the alley between Hongdae's AK Plaza and Starbucks and Omil Hongdae is right there on the 2nd floor!

At Omil Hongdae, you can join the wait list either at the CatchTable kiosk out front or through the app. Once you're within 5 spots of being seated, you'll get an alert message — tap to confirm arrival within 5 minutes and wait near the restaurant, then head straight in once the 'you can enter now' notification comes through!
Right before you go in, there's a restroom in the hallway with no door code — just walk right in!
Inside Omil Hongdae: atmosphere and seating
Omil Hongdae has that cute, cozy charm typical of a good Hongdae restaurant. It's always busy, but not overly loud, so it's perfect for a date or brunch too!
There's also a big table like this that seats 5! Book ahead through Naver and you can bring a group.
Even the walls have that cute touch — little Omil characters with arms spread out are hiding here and there haha
There's a self-serve water station, and the rubber duck greets me again there too, haha
There's also an event where you get a free ₩3,500 drink for posting a Naver receipt review or Google review! Omurice, steak, pasta, gnocchi and more — a real Hongdae pasta and Western food favorite!
After you pick your menu, you ring this little bell and a staff member comes over haha, it felt a bit embarrassing so I mentally prepared myself before ringing it
Summer Vacation! Ade and Oh! Cherry Ade
I ordered the Summer Vacation! Ade (₩7,900) and Oh! Cherry Ade (₩6,900). It was nice that they had a good range of non-alcoholic drinks and not just alcohol on the menu.

Summer Vacation! Rubber Duck Omurice (₩16,900). It's usually just the Rubber Duck Omurice, but since it's summer vacation season until August 31, it comes with a rubber duck figure wearing a parasol and floaty tube~~~!! Looking around at other tables, everyone seemed to have ordered one rubber duck omurice each haha
The 'rubber duck' is actually.. a quail egg haha. The seasoning wasn't too strong either, so it went really well with the pasta. Scraping up the sauce next to it was so satisfying
But this rubber duck is genuinely, genuinely adorable;; you get to take it home as a gift!
The black sesame seeds are placed a little differently on each one, so some of them look kind of mad lol
How spicy is Omil Hongdae's spicy pollack roe pasta?
I love oil pastas, so I also ordered the Spicy Pollack Roe Pasta (₩17,900). As soon as it arrived, a sharp garlic smell hit me right away. It's labeled 'spicy' but it's not actually that hot, so even people who can't handle spice much should be totally fine with it!
Once you mix it all up, it looks like this. There was a generous amount of pollack roe, so it had a nice bite to it, which I liked haha
Is Omil Hongdae good for a date or blind date in Hongdae?
Omil Hongdae, famous on Instagram for its rubber duck omurice! Great atmosphere and great for photos too, so I'd totally recommend it for a Hongdae blind date or date. Strongly recommend Omil Hongdae~~~!
