Gyukatsu restaurant at Seoul Station, crispy butter grilling: Ichigyu

In short

Ichigyu Seoul Station Branch is a gyukatsu (breaded beef cutlet) restaurant on the basement first floor of LG Seoul Station Tower in Jung-gu, Seoul. On a Saturday at 1:30pm the writer ordered Set 1 — two sirloin gyukatsu cutlets and two zero-sugar colas for 42,000 won — and grilled the beef on a butter-melted brazier, finding that loading four pieces at once for a crispy finish beat the quick, tender grilling. Ichigyu fills up even on weekends, with just one table left on arrival, so putting your name on the Catch Table waitlist first is the safer move.

I went to Ichigyu Seoul Station Branch, a lunch spot in the basement of LG Seoul Station Tower! It's perfectly located for a weekday office lunch, and it's also great for a weekend date near Seoul Station.

Hadn't had gyukatsu in a while, so I really loaded up on the grease haha... back number songs kept playing, which matched the food so well ㅎㅎ

How long was the wait on a Saturday afternoon?

You can put your name on the waitlist through Catch Table! Since Seoul Station is a business district, I figured it would be quiet on weekends, but even arriving around 1:30pm on a Saturday, only one table was left! A popular Seoul Station spot even on weekends~

There were quite a lot of seats and the spacing between tables was generous, which I liked. The two-seaters also looked fine for eating solo! It really felt like being at a gyukatsu place in Japan~

Near the entrance there's this quirky meat model! It's bigger than you'd think, whoa.

Why Set 1 costs 3,000 won less than ordering separately

If you're going with friends or on a date at Ichigyu Seoul Station Branch, I'd recommend ordering a set menu! Whether it's two sirloin gyukatsu or a sirloin gyukatsu plus omurice combo, the set is ₩3,000 cheaper than ordering items separately, so going with a set seems like the better move!

There's also a Naver receipt review event! Leave a review and get a fried shrimp haha

Shared gyukatsu grill for two people

Two people share one grill for cooking the gyukatsu! If the flame goes out partway through, just tell staff and they'll relight it.

Order slip — Set 1 menu ₩42,000 (2 sirloin gyukatsu, 2 zero-sugar colas) / TOTAL ₩42,000

Splitting the set menu between two people comes to about ₩20,000 each, which feels pretty easy on the wallet.

Full table spread of the gyukatsu set

What comes on the Set 1 table for two

The full spread has everything: gyukatsu, salad, cabbage, dipping sauce for the cutlet, chili sauce, salt, miso soup, and rice!!!

Table with the rice container and tray

The rice comes in its own separate container, so you scoop it into the rice bowl on your tray yourselves!!

Zero-sugar cola served with a cup of ice

The drink comes with a cup of ice too! Zero-sugar cola is an absolute must with gyukatsu.

Butter-grilled gyukatsu: how long to cook it for a crispy finish

At Ichigyu Seoul Station Branch, each person gets their own butter, so once the grill heats up, melt some butter and grill the gyukatsu on top of it!! Grilling it in butter makes the gyukatsu taste even richer!

Listen to that sizzling sound as the gyukatsu grills!!!! Back number songs kept playing too, which made it even better~

Gyukatsu sizzling on the grill

I figured grilling it too long would be a mistake so I ate it right away, but it actually tasted better cooked longer than expected! Eating it quickly keeps that tender texture, which is nice, but I preferred grilling it more crispy ㅎㅎ

Several pieces of gyukatsu on the grill at once

Seeing it sizzle again makes me want more,,, at first I put pieces on one at a time, but since they don't burn quickly, go ahead and stack four pieces on at once!!! Keep brushing on plenty of butter as you grill so it doesn't burn and stays delicious!!

A gyukatsu spot with a real Japan-local vibe. Whether tender or crispy, grilling it in butter made it taste even richer and better! Recommending Ichigyu Seoul Station Branch as a Seoul Station gyukatsu lunch spot for office workers ~~
