Seoul Station gyukatsu restaurant Set 3 with hamburg omurice: Ichigyu

In short

Ichigyu Seoul Station Branch is a gyukatsu (Japanese-style beef cutlet) restaurant on basement floor 1 of the LG Seoul Station Building in Jung-gu, Seoul. Two diners ordered Set 3 at 39,500 won, which includes gyukatsu, hamburg omurice and two drinks, and added a fried egg for 1,000 won; the gyukatsu, seared briefly in melted butter on the tabletop brazier, and the soft, fluffy omelette on the omurice were both satisfying. Set 3 at Ichigyu is the right pick when one person wants meat and the other wants a rice dish.

Table setting for gyukatsu at Ichigyu Seoul Station Branch

I was craving gyukatsu (Japanese-style breaded beef cutlet) so badly after a while that I went back to Ichigyu Seoul Station Branch, a place I genuinely love haha. I tried it once before and thought, wow, the gyukatsu here is really good, so it keeps coming to mind whenever I'm trying to figure out what to eat near Seoul Station.

Set 3 gyukatsu and hamburg omurice at Ichigyu Seoul Station Branch

Last time I enjoyed the gyukatsu on its own, so this time I wanted to try something a bit different and ordered Set 3, which comes with Ichigyu gyukatsu plus hamburg omurice (rice omelette with a hamburg steak patty).

Gyukatsu and hamburg omurice shared between two diners

The gyukatsu was delicious as always, and the hamburg omurice, which I properly tried for the first time this visit, was much better than I expected. If you're visiting as a pair like I did, this combo is great haha.

Where is Ichigyu Seoul Station Branch and how do you find basement floor 1?

Ichigyu Seoul Station Branch is within walking distance of Seoul Station, located on basement 1 of the LG Seoul Station Building. Come out of the station toward the LG Seoul Station Building and take the escalator down.

On your first visit you might think, wait, is this really it? haha but once you go further into the basement food court, Ichigyu is right there. Once you've found it once, it's easy from then on.

The interior is clean overall, and every table has a mini brazier for grilling your own gyukatsu. That's part of the fun of Ichigyu haha — instead of just eating a finished cutlet, you get to grill each piece to your own preference.

What comes in Ichigyu's Set 3 and how much is it?

This time we ordered Set 3 for ₩39,500. It comes with Ichigyu gyukatsu, hamburg omurice, and two drinks.

And I added a fried egg for ₩1,000 on top of that! Why add a fried egg when the omurice already has egg, you ask? Well, more egg is always more delicious haha.

Ordering the set meant we could each have a different dish while sharing the drinks too, so the composition was pretty great. Especially when one person wants gyukatsu and the other wants a rice dish, choosing Set 3 solves it peacefully haha.

Plus you basically get two drinks for the price of one, which is even better!!

And of course, rice refills are unlimited!!

How to grill Ichigyu's gyukatsu in melted butter on the brazier

First up, the Ichigyu gyukatsu! I already knew this one was good from before, so I ordered it with confidence haha. When the gyukatsu arrives, the thin breading outside is crisply fried, and inside the meat is still moist and tender.

Seeing it, you know you should take photos first, but I get too eager to start grilling haha. First, melt a bit of the butter that comes with it on the table brazier, then place the gyukatsu on top piece by piece.

The moment the butter smell rises up, it's already impossible for this not to taste good... Depending on your preference, you can lightly sear both sides or grill it a bit more well-done. I personally like just lightly searing the outside to keep the moist interior — that's the tastiest for me.

It's also good with a little wasabi on top, dipped in salt, or eaten with the sauce. Since you can mix and match, you never get bored even through a whole plate.

What does the hamburg omurice at Ichigyu taste like?

And the dish that quietly exceeded my expectations this visit was the hamburg omurice. As soon as it arrives, the look of the egg on top is no joke.

The egg on top of the rice isn't stiffly cooked — it's soft and fluffy, like a Japanese-style omelette. When you cut into it with a spoon, the soft egg spreads over the rice, and honestly the look alone is amazing... The egg itself is soft and savory, so eating it together with the fried rice makes the whole thing go down really smoothly.

Inside is a thick hamburg steak patty. It's not too dry — you can feel the meat juices when you bite in — so it pairs really well with the soft egg.

The omurice alone feels like a solid, filling meal. Add the demi-glace sauce on top and you get a sweet yet rich flavor that ties it all together — eating the egg, fried rice, and hamburg patty together in one spoonful was the best part.

Another genuinely great meal here. Hope this helps if you're looking for good restaurants near Seoul Station :)
