Candle-warmed bossam at Songgane, a Changwon jokbal restaurant

Sometimes when all you eat at home is delivery food, you start craving jokbal (pig's trotters) or bossam (boiled pork wrap) served hot and fresh. This time I really wanted to properly enjoy jokbal and bossam again, so I headed to Songgane Wang Jokbal Bossam Changwon Station Branch near Changwon Station.

I usually order jokbal for delivery, but eating it warm in person this time felt noticeably different. If you're looking for a good spot in Palyong-dong, this place is also convenient for a meal around Changwon Station.

Where Songgane Wang Jokbal Bossam Changwon Station Branch is and when it opens

Songgane Wang Jokbal Bossam Changwon Station Branch is located on the 1st floor of 13-12 Uichang-daero 54beon-gil, Uichang-gu, Changwon-si, Gyeongsangnam-do, South Korea. It's open 14:00–24:00 (last order 23:00), closed every Sunday. From Changwon Station, cross the crosswalk, head down, and go toward the GS25 to find the restaurant.

It's open from 2pm to midnight and closed on Sundays. There are about 3 parking spots in front of the restaurant, plus nearby public parking lots and alley spaces to consider when visiting.

What got me excited even on my first visit was learning this place has been running in the same spot since 1992. Walking inside, the tables had more space between them than I expected, and the place felt spacious overall.

Songgane Wang Jokbal Bossam Changwon Station Branch has group seating, making it look like a good spot for family dinners as well as gatherings or work dinners with several people. There's also a large screen — we had a baseball game playing while we ate, and eating jokbal while watching sports turned out to be surprisingly fun.

Baby chairs were also available, so it was easy to visit with a child, too.

What comes with the small jokbo set plus makguksu

What we ordered was the small jokbo set, which comes with both jokbal and bossam, plus an added order of makguksu (cold buckwheat noodles). The table was generously loaded from the start, making it easy to share among several people, and I liked that sauces and soup were prepared separately per person.

The water on the table was yagwanmun tea, which felt subtly nutty and distinctive compared to just having plain water.

How was the bossam? A plate kept hot by a candle

The bossam at Songgane Wang Jokbal Bossam Changwon Station Branch came with a candle placed underneath the plate to keep it warm, so I could eat it hot all the way through. And you can't have jokbal or bossam without kimchi and lettuce wraps! The vegetables were fresh overall, and there was plenty for generous wraps.

The kimchi in particular paired well with the bossam — not too sharp, with a crisp, refreshing taste that made me want to top every piece of meat with it.

The meat wasn't dry at all, it was soft, and it went really well with the kimchi. Unlike delivery, eating it warm straight from the kitchen made the moist texture that's characteristic of bossam come through even more. Among the bossam I've had around Changwon, being able to enjoy warm meat with kimchi together was especially memorable.

The jokbal had a nicely chewy yet springy texture in both the lean meat and skin. There was more meat around the bone than I expected, which made it fun to pick apart piece by piece.

Jokbal is good on its own, but dipping it in saeujeot (salted shrimp) or the prepared sauce, then wrapping it with lettuce and garlic, kept me reaching for more.

Was the added makguksu worth it?

The makguksu we ordered had a lively tangy flavor rather than a heavy, thick sauce, which made it pair well with jokbal and bossam. It also came with plenty of vegetables, so alternating a bite of meat with the noodles felt refreshing.

Besides diners eating in, I also saw customers picking up takeout. Eating it warm in person is great, but it's also a plus that you can order takeout or delivery when you want to enjoy it comfortably at home.

If, like me, you usually only have jokbal delivered, I'd recommend visiting the restaurant at least once to eat it warm. The spacious dining room, along with group seating and baby chairs, made it a good option for family meals or gatherings too.

Maybe because it's been running in the same spot for so long, the overall menu felt familiar yet satisfying, and being able to enjoy jokbal, bossam, and makguksu all in one meal made for a satisfying visit.
