Ulsan café for sandwich brunch and Basque cheesecake: Benetto (베네또)

I returned with a companion to Benetto (베네또), a café near Ulsan City Hall. I had been too full to try a sandwich last time, so on this visit I ordered the jambon basil (ham and basil) grilled sandwich too.

What sandwiches and drinks are available?

The menu included coffee, tea, lattes, ades (fruity fizzy drinks) and sandwiches. Sandwiches could be ordered as a coffee set, and you could choose a soft drink instead of coffee.

The room-temperature display case held jambon burrata (ham and burrata), garden and ratatouille sandwiches. The grilled sandwich menu listed jambon basil, Mexican beef and barbecue chicken.

The refrigerated display below held soft drinks, and Basque cheesecake was also available for dessert.

Coffee beans were displayed along the wall for sale in 1 kg and 200 g bags. The coffee here suited my taste.

How was the café for a sit-down brunch?

The interior wasn't particularly spacious, but there were quite a few seats. I thought it would be a comfortable place for a coffee after lunch or a sandwich brunch.

There were bar seats too. They looked suitable for a quick coffee or tea.

The self-service station had cold water, cups, cutlery and napkins. The sandwich didn't come with a knife, so you could pick one up here if you wanted to cut it.

How were the Basque cheesecake and Americano?

The two of us ordered two iced Americanos, Basque cheesecake and a jambon basil grilled sandwich. The grilled sandwich took a little longer to prepare, so the coffee and cheesecake arrived first.

I had enjoyed the Basque cheesecake on my previous visit. I liked its lightly burnt exterior again this time, and it went well with the Americano.

The iced Americano was nutty and smooth, with no burnt taste.

Was the jambon basil grilled sandwich filling enough for a meal?

The jambon basil grilled sandwich arrived shortly afterward. It was cut in half for easier eating and came with two marinated tomatoes.

They provided a pair of disposable gloves because the sauce could get on our hands. I started eating with the gloves on, then picked up a fork and knife from the self-service station to cut the sandwich.

There was plenty of sauce, and the grilled bread was crisp outside and moist inside. The sandwich alone felt filling enough for a meal, which made it a good brunch choice.

Can you visit in the morning?

Benetto is on the 1st floor at 4 Jungang-ro 213beon-gil, Nam-gu, Ulsan, South Korea (울산광역시 남구 중앙로213번길 4 1층). Its location near City Hall made it easy to return. When the original post was written, the listed hours were Monday through Friday, 8:00 AM to 7:00 PM, with Sundays closed.

With its early weekday opening, I thought it would be convenient to pick up coffee and a sandwich before work. Ulsan Pay was also accepted.

Where can you park if you drive?

The café had no dedicated parking. At the time of my visit, I was told that City Hall parking offered one free hour on weekdays and was also available on Saturdays, Sundays and public holidays. There were residential parking spaces nearby too, but I couldn't confirm whether visitors could use them.

This time I finally tried the sandwich I'd missed on my previous visit. It made a filling meal, alongside the Basque cheesecake and coffee that I enjoyed again.
