I took a day off in September and went on a one-night trip to Taean 💚 I wanted somewhere not too far from Seoul where I could see the ocean, eat good food, and relax comfortably at the accommodation — that's how I found Taean The Classic Spa Pension. I loved that it had oceanview plus spa, barbecue, and mudflat experience all in one place, so I booked it, and once I actually visited, I was more satisfied than I expected ✨ Let me introduce it haha

The parking lot is seriously huge!!! Even beginner drivers can park easily.

The weather was really nice when I visited, so I felt good the moment I arrived at the pension. Clean exterior plus a green lawn made a good first impression ☺️✨

Is the mudflat experience free? Gear rental and checking the tide times

The mudflat experience at Taean The Classic Spa Pension is free, and you can rent the gear for free too. I've been seeing so many mudflat experience reels on Instagram lately?!! This trendy mudflat experience is available for free at Taean The Classic Spa Pension 👍 Check-in is at 3pm, but you can arrive earlier, do the mudflat experience first, and check in afterward. (Coarse salt is provided too, so you can just show up empty-handed haha)

Do check the high tide and low tide times before check-in. My high tide started at 1:30pm, so I had to do the mudflat experience in the morning 🥹 So I had an early lunch and arrived around noon to do the mudflat experience first.

The beach is right in front of the pension, so you can reach it quickly by going down the stairs.

I had only done a mudflat experience as a kid, so this was my first time doing it as an adult, and it was so much fun?!! I even caught some clams haha

If you time your visit with the tides, it seems great for a mudflat experience with kids too, and if it's a couple's trip, a light beach walk like ours works well too.

There were so many hermit crabs on the beach that my boyfriend and I watched them for a while haha. Watching the little hermit crabs carry their shells around like houses was fascinating — we ended up staring at them for a good while.

And having the beach right in front of the accommodation is a huge plus!!!

Romance 201: an oceanview spa room in the ₩100,000s on weekdays

The room I stayed in was the Romance room, and while prices vary by date, I booked on a weekday for around ₩100,000-something. Considering it's an oceanview stay with a spa in Taean, I felt it was a pretty good price 🤍

The moment I opened the door, I was even more satisfied by how spacious the room was than I expected!!! And the ocean view — one of the biggest reasons I chose this place!

The spa tub and when you can use it (18:00-22:00)

There's a spa tub set up inside the room too. (There's room to spare even with two people inside — it's a really spacious spa tub, so I was satisfied.) At check-in, the owner kindly explained how to use the spa and provided a basic bath bomb! (No need to bring your own bath bomb ⭐️)

The bubbles came out quite generously too, and soaking in the warm water with my boyfriend in the evening completely washed away the travel fatigue 👍 Spa hours are 18:00-22:00. There's also a massage function on the spa, so make sure to try it out.

Sea views from the bed at Romance 201

There's a big window right next to the bed, so you can see the ocean even lying in bed. Stepping out onto the balcony gives you a wide-open ocean view — as soon as we arrived, we just dropped our bags and stared at the sea with my boyfriend for a while 🩵

Usually all I see are buildings and cars, so just looking at the ocean mindlessly while traveling felt healing in itself.

The bedding was clean overall, and the pillow wasn't too high or too soft, so personally I slept comfortably 👍✨

Bathroom amenities and what to pack yourself

The bathroom was well kept and clean, and the hot water worked well.

Shampoo, conditioner, body wash, toothpaste, and soap were all provided, and towels were included as basics too. (⭐️Please bring your own toothbrush⭐️)

There was a hair dryer in the bedroom area, and there were even separate foot towels laid out in front of the bathroom — I thought it was a thoughtful touch.

What the Romance 201 kitchen comes with

The kitchen was tidy and clutter-free, and cookware, dishes, wine glasses, a microwave, a kettle and more were all provided, so it seemed like you wouldn't have much trouble even if you only brought your own food.

I loved how spacious the fridge storage was. There's a microwave, induction stove, and rice cooker too.

Best of all, having a water purifier meant I didn't need to bring bottled water separately, which was so convenient haha (I didn't know and bought some anyway, but you all should definitely use the water purifier!!)

₩20,000 barbecue: grilling dinner as the sun sets

For the barbecue at Taean The Classic Spa Pension, if you pay ₩20,000 separately on-site, they'll prepare charcoal and a grill plate for you. In the evening came the barbecue time I'd been waiting and waiting for! When I was researching Taean The Classic Spa Pension, the barbecue area photos looked so pretty that I had high expectations, and once I actually got there, I understood why they'd posted so many photos of it haha

The sun started setting right around when we started our barbecue, so there was extra fun in grilling meat while watching the sunset 🥩🍗🍖

Looking out at the ocean while eating delicious food with my boyfriend really made it feel like a proper trip. The barbecue is available if you pay separately on-site! (Barbecue cost is ₩20,000)

We bought both beef and pork and grilled them over charcoal — it was seriously delicious haha. And eating it while looking at the ocean view made it taste even better ✨👍🩷

Barbecue shopping list for a night at the pension

They provide the charcoal and grill plate for the barbecue, so here's what to get at the mart 👍

• Shredded green onion, lettuce wraps
• Ssamjang (dipping sauce)
• Garlic
• Instant rice (Hetbahn)
• Kimchi
• Meat, clams, shrimp, etc.
• Ramyeon

Just in case, I brought coarse salt, but it turned out the accommodation had herb salt!!! What's provided at the accommodation is herb salt, anchovy broth, chogochujang (vinegar chili sauce), and coarse salt. Just so you know 😋

We wrapped up by boiling Shin Ramyun with dongjuk clams (Manila clams) inside, and honestly, clam ramyeon is the absolute best ✨👍🐚 Everyone should grab some dongjuk clams at the mart and cook ramyeon with them.

I used the Taean Local Food Direct Store near the accommodation! The mart was big and had a wide variety of meats. FYI, they also sell prawns and various clams.

Verdict on one night at The Classic Spa Pension in Taean

I think the biggest advantage was being able to enjoy the ocean view, spa, barbecue, and mudflat experience all in one place without having to move around 🤍 Above all, having the beach right in front of the accommodation was really convenient haha. The owner was kind, and the room was kept clean, so I got to rest comfortably. There's also a mart nearby, so grocery shopping wasn't a hassle either.

For anyone who wants to quietly relax by the sea in Taean, anyone planning a one-night trip with a partner, or a family trip with kids — this seemed like a place anyone of any age could enjoy visiting at least once 🥰

On this trip, we got to fully enjoy staring blankly at the sea → enjoying the spa → barbecue while watching the sunset → sightseeing by the sea the next day.
