Baby-friendly kalguksu restaurant in Dongbaek, Yongin: Baekcheongu

In short

Baekcheongu Kalguksu Yongin Dongbaek Branch is a seafood kalguksu (knife-cut noodle soup) restaurant that has served the Dongbaek neighborhood in Yongin, Gyeonggi for 20 years. On a weekend lunch visit with a baby, the order was one kongguksu (chilled soybean noodle soup), one seafood kalguksu and 6 meat dumplings, and the staff brought out a baby chair plus a separate bowl of barley rice for the baby. Between the generous seafood, the deep, clean-tasting broth and the warm service, Baekcheongu Kalguksu made for a satisfying family meal.

First photo from the visit to Baekcheongu Kalguksu Dongbaek branch

I was craving kalguksu (knife-cut noodle soup) so badly for weekend lunch that I went and checked this place out! I'd heard it's a seafood kalguksu place that's been loved by Dongbaek residents for a whopping 20 years, so I was curious^^

Eating there in person, I understood exactly why it's packed every weekend haha. This is Baekcheongu Kalguksu Dongbaek branch :) Since it was the weekend, I parked on the street near the restaurant haha.

Can you bring a baby? Baby chair and service at Baekcheongu Kalguksu

Baekcheongu Kalguksu Dongbaek branch has baby chairs ready, so we could eat comfortably with our baby. There were a ton of other diners when we visited, but the staff were still super friendly, which gave a great first impression^^

What we ordered: kongguksu, seafood kalguksu and 6 meat dumplings

We ordered 1 kongguksu (chilled soybean noodle soup) + 1 seafood kalguksu + 6 meat dumplings!

When you visit for the first time, they bring out barley rice first, and they even gave a separate portion of barley rice for the baby to eat — I was touched all over again🥹 I mixed it with sesame oil, gochujang (red chili paste), and various side dishes, and it was so delicious too~

The yeolmu kimchi (young radish kimchi) in particular was seriously the best... you can't resist the combo of barley rice and yeolmu kimchi haha.

Seafood kalguksu: how big the portion is and how the broth tastes

Baekcheongu's seafood kalguksu is technically one serving, but it felt like almost 1.5 servings. The portion here is genuinely huge haha. I was impressed from the very start ㅠㅠ

The seafood was loaded in without holding back too. I took one sip of the broth first and, wow...

I didn't realize the broth could taste this different from one kalguksu place to another!

What does the kongguksu at Baekcheongu Kalguksu taste like?

The kongguksu I ordered as the main dish was also nutty and delicious~ My husband, who loves kongguksu, ate it happily and said it was good haha.

The soy broth wasn't watery or bland at all — you could really taste the rich, nutty flavor of the soybeans. It was light but the beany nuttiness lingered subtly in my mouth~ At the same time it wasn't too heavy or chalky, so it went well with the noodles, and eating it cold made it even better! It was a kongguksu that brought out the beans' own nutty flavor without anything overpowering, which I personally found very satisfying haha.

The 6 meat dumplings: wrapper and filling

And now the meat dumplings I'd been most looking forward to! The wrapper was thin, which I liked right away, and when I looked inside, there was really a generous amount of meat packed in~

The filling felt totally packed, so it was so good! Having a dumpling alongside each bite of kalguksu made for the best combo haha.

The kalguksu wasn't too salty or overpowering, but had a deep, refreshing flavor, so I kept scooping up more broth^^

It's not for nothing that this place is called the go-to kalguksu spot in Giheung-gu, Yongin haha. And apparently Baekcheongu Kalguksu makes their noodles fresh in-house and their kimchi fresh every day too! Maybe that's why the noodles were so chewy and paired so well with the broth^^

Is Baekcheongu Kalguksu in Dongbaek worth a return family meal?

This time I had both seafood kalguksu and kongguksu, and everything was so good that I've already decided what to order next time haha. Best of all, it was totally fine to bring the baby along! With the baby chair, the barley rice they set aside, and the friendly staff, it was a satisfying family meal~

We went for weekend lunch and it was so packed I wondered if this place was really that famous — but as soon as I finished eating and walked out, I got it immediately haha. Ah, there's a reason places get this crowded haha.
