After-work soba at a Seokchon Lake udon spot: Haengbokhan Udon Gage
In short
Haengbokhan Udon Gage Seokchon Lake Branch is a 24-hour udon and soba restaurant on Samhaksa-ro, on the west side of Seokchon Lake in Songpa, Seoul. For an after-work dinner, the buckwheat soba (8,500 won) came old-style as pan-momil on a green tray. The gakgi udon (8,000 won) had a spicy broth once the gochu dadegi (chili seasoning paste) was stirred in. With good noodles for the price and plenty of families with children, Haengbokhan Udon Gage is a great-value pick by Seokchon Lake.

After-work dinner at Haengbokhan Udon Gage, west side of Seokchon Lake
Hi, I'm Nana, two years into living in Songpa-gu. Lately it's been so hot in summer that I just don't feel like cooking dinner at home after work~~ So these days I've been going to good restaurants around Seokchon Lake for dinner, then taking a walk on the Seokchon Lake loop trail afterward to help digestion^^ Yesterday after work I went for dinner at Haengbokhan Udon Gage, a great restaurant on the west side of Seokchon Lake, near Jamsil.

Let me introduce one of my favorite restaurants around Seokchon Lake. It's an udon specialty shop with an old-school, roadside-stall udon style, so the broth has a nice spicy-tangy kick and the noodles are wonderfully chewy. They also have a lot of other menu items like pork cutlet, cheese pork cutlet, and mebil soba, making it a great place to bring your kids too.

Parking and seating: spaces out front, a high-ceilinged ground floor
The Haengbokhan Udon Gage Seokchon Lake Branch is on the first floor of the building, and there's parking space right in front, so it's a convenient restaurant near Seokchon Lake if you're driving.

The restaurant is spacious and the tables have plenty of room to spread out. The ceilings are high and the interior is surprisingly stylish. The seating makes it easy to eat comfortably, and since the kids' favorite, pork cutlet, is good here, I saw quite a few moms with young kids eating there ^^

Haengbokhan Udon Gage Seokchon Lake Branch menu and prices
- Gakgi udon (basic udon) ₩8,000
- Gochu udon ₩8,500
- Eomuk udon (fish cake udon) ₩9,000
- Perilla oil soba ₩8,500
- Mebil soba ₩8,500
- Jaengban soba (tray soba) ₩10,500
- Bibim udon ₩8,500
- Old-style pork cutlet ₩10,900
- Cheese pork cutlet ₩11,900
- Jeyuk deopbap, squid deopbap ₩10,500 each
So there's a wide range of dishes — udon, soba, pork cutlet, even jeyuk (spicy stir-fried pork). And the prices were really great value!! These days even a neighborhood snack bar charges over 10,000 won for mebil soba... and here's a noodle specialty shop charging such a nice price..!!

If you write a receipt review, you get to choose one free item from honey tomato, a drink, soju, or beer.
What I ordered Mebil soba ₩8,500 Gakgi udon (basic) ₩8,000
Even though the prices are budget-friendly, the quality of the udon and soba at this Seokchon Lake restaurant is really excellent.

Buckwheat soba (8,500 won): old-style pan-momil on a green tray
Ah, I really missed this style of pan-mobil (buckwheat noodles served on a tray) served on that green tray ㅠㅠ These days that basic, classic style of pan-mobil is getting harder and harder to find. And on top of that, the ₩8,500 price is really appealing. Since I've been eating out a lot lately, I've been paying more attention to dining-out prices, and it's been a while since I've seen such a nice price like this!! ㅠㅠ

Dipping the cold, chewy buckwheat noodles into the tsuyu sauce loaded with finely grated radish and chopped green onion really made the heat melt away~~ You know how buckwheat is said to have a cooling nature that lowers body heat, haha. But more than anything, since Haengbokhan Udon Gage specializes in noodles, the noodles themselves were really springy~^^

Gakgi udon (8,000 won): spicy broth with gochu dadegi chili paste
I ordered the gakgi udon because I was craving that old-style, instant-udon-stall kind of noodle, and I loved how the spicy-tangy broth mixed with red pepper paste was loaded with fried tofu, giving it an even richer, deeper flavor.
As you'd expect from a Seokchon Lake udon specialty shop, the noodles were really chewy and springy, so even by the time I finished the hot udon, the noodles hadn't gone soft. ㅎㅎ On top of that, the noodles had soaked up that spicy-tangy broth so well that every bite burst with savory flavor — it really felt like eating proper udon for the first time in a while.

Great taste, great price — a good restaurant on the west side of Seokchon Lake to visit when you don't feel like eating much. While I was eating, I noticed the pork cutlet reviews were really good, and all the kids at the tables around me were eating pork cutlet, which looked really good quality too. Next time I'll have to get the pork cutlet along with the udon. ㅎㅎ
