Sokcho market crab stall: thawed red snow crab lunchbox to Seoul
In short
Yes Susan is a red snow crab and king crab lunchbox stall on the first floor of Jungang Market in Sokcho, Gangwon. Short on time, we skipped having live-tank crab steamed and took a lunchbox of two already-thawed red snow crabs (from 25,000 won) plus two crab shell fried rice portions (2,000 won each) all the way back to Seoul, with a cooler bag thrown in free. Because Yes Susan picks the leg, claw and body meat in advance, the crab was still easy to eat hours later at home.

When you think Sokcho, it's got to be king crab! Red snow crab! 🦀🦀 I actually like king crab more, but red snow crab just came back into season since the fishing ban lifted in September, and I already had a king crab spot picked out, so it felt like a waste to visit Sokcho's Jungang Market and not eat red snow crab haha. So here's my takeout review from a red snow crab lunchbox spot at Sokcho Jungang Market-*

Where is Yes Susan in Sokcho, and when is it open?
A Sokcho Jungang Market favorite — cheap, delicious, honest!
Yes Susan is located at 16 Jungang-ro 147beon-gil, Gwangwang Susan Market 1st floor, unit 124, Sokcho, Gangwon, South Korea. Hours are Monday, Wednesday–Sunday 08:00–20:30, closed Tuesdays.
- Parking: use the public lot across from Jungang Market (₩900/hour, +₩500 per extra 30 minutes, max ₩6,000). 30 minutes free with purchase at Yes Susan
- Takeout, delivery, Zero Pay, and local currency accepted

Yes Susan sits across from Sokcho Jungang Market's famous makgeolli (rice wine) steamed bread shop 🦀 There are live king crabs and red snow crabs moving around in the tank. A little intimidating, but maybe because it's peak season, the red snow crabs had a bright, vivid color and looked packed with meat.

Yes Susan has even been on TV 🦀 Oh, this we definitely have to buy haha, that crab shell fried rice looks so good-*

How much is the red snow crab lunchbox, and why thawed crab?
A neatly prepared Sokcho Jungang Market red snow crab lunchbox 🍱🦀 Price starts at ₩25,000 for two crabs~ The owner told me the displayed crabs were caught before the fishing ban, quickly frozen, then thawed for sale 👀 (feat. an honest and kind owner)

Steaming a crab straight from the tank costs a bit more and takes about 30 minutes, but she said the thawed crab lunchbox isn't much different in taste or freshness. Since we were short on time anyway, and the displayed crabs looked well-filled, we went with the lunchbox version!!

Crab shell fried rice at Yes Susan: 2,000 won a portion
If you add crab shell fried rice, they stir-fry it fresh on the spot and have it ready within 5 minutes. We chose the two-crab lunchbox and added two crab shell fried rice orders. Price: ₩2,000 each!!

The free cooler bag that made the trip possible
When you get takeout, they pack it carefully into a cooler bag like this. A similar-sized, similar-material cooler bag cost ₩3,500 when I bought a Twosome Place cake box once..🥹 but at Yes Susan, the cooler bag comes free. 🛍

How the picked crab meat tasted back home
The red snow crab I brought home 🦀 The leg meat is packed full.

The leg meat is pre-cut for easy eating, so a light crack of the shell and the meat pops right out. On a completely different level from the crab sticks you buy at the supermarket!!! The tender, moist leg meat pulls apart smoothly, with a subtle sweetness 🦀

The thick claw meat also has its shell pre-cracked, so a gentle snap(?) reveals claw meat that's even plumper and firmer than the leg meat. Nicely savory and salty.

The body meat is packed full too! It's fun picking every last bit out of the corners haha.

Eating the crab shell fried rice in Seoul
And of course, the finale every Korean needs — crab shell fried rice 🍙🦀 Since we told them it was going all the way to Seoul, they packed the hot crab shell fried rice and the leg meat separately. Really thoughtful and careful 👍

One portion was pretty big, so I nearly burst after finishing it!! Seaweed plus rice alone is already enough to finish a whole bowl, but crab shell fried rice cooked together with the tomalley made for a perfect ending.
Is the Yes Susan crab lunchbox worth it?
- A Sokcho Jungang Market favorite that sells in-season red snow crab already prepared for easy eating, so the lunchbox format is very convenient
- From well-filled red snow crabs to freshly cooked crab shell fried rice, everything is generous and delicious
- Packed carefully in a cooler bag, great for taking on the road to eat back at your accommodation — recommended whenever you want a well-filled red snow crab 🦀 Yes Susan 🦀 recommended✨
