Sokcho sashimi takeout with bone-free mulhoe on request: Hoega
In short
Hoega is a sashimi takeout restaurant in the Gyodong residential area of Sokcho, Gangwon. On a second visit, Hoega packed mixed sashimi (small) for 43,000 won and mixed mulhoe (cold spicy raw fish soup) for 60,000 won in total, with the mulhoe made from whole-fish sashimi only instead of segeosi (thin-cut bone-in fish), so every bite was bone-free. Thick-cut fish plus ssamjang, minced garlic and mukeunji (aged kimchi) included with the takeout make Hoega the only stop needed for sashimi in Sokcho.

Hi guys, it's the blogger here — I went back to Goseong again last weekend haha.
My friend and I absolutely ❤️ love sashimi, so once again we got it packed to take out! We were going to try Sinyune, famous for Sokcho sashimi takeout, but then we remembered how good the takeout we got from this place last time was at our accommodation, so we came back to the same spot.
And honestly, round two was even better than round one. Is this real?? For real, if Sinyune let you down, please go here instead. For real for real.

Where is Hoega in Sokcho, and how do you park?
Hoega is a sashimi restaurant at 18-2 Beonyeong-ro 43beon-gil, 1st floor, Sokcho, Gangwon, South Korea, in the Gyodong residential area. It's open daily 11:00–22:30, closed every Wednesday, with last order at 19:30 and dine-in closing at 21:00.
It's also a decent drive from Sokcho Beach, Daepo Harbor, and Sokcho Jungang Market. For parking, you can line-park in front of the K-Mart right by the shop, or use the space beside the building! Both times I visited, parking was easy.
And the biggest perk — there's a big mart right next door, so you can grab your sashimi takeout and do your grocery run at the same time. Total pro tip.

Call ahead for takeout: about a 10-minute wait at Hoega
It looked like Hoega gets way more takeout customers than dine-in. There were people eating inside, but it definitely felt busier than last time.
Even though we called ahead to order, we still waited about 10 minutes. If you're getting takeout, call in advance!

Mixed sashimi (small) is takeout only, and mulhoe with whole-fish sashimi only
Checking Hoega's menu, mixed sashimi (small) is only available for takeout! Just so you know. This time we ordered mixed sashimi (small) + mixed mulhoe (₩60,000 total).
I can't really handle segeosi (thin-cut skin-on sashimi with tiny bones), so I specifically asked for the mixed mulhoe to be made with only whole-fish sashimi! That way, when I ate the mulhoe, there wasn't a single bone in it.

Last time we had the mixed sashimi (small) for ₩43,000, and it was plenty for two of us along with rice and yukhoe (Korean beef tartare). We bought the yukhoe from the nearby mart, and eating it together with the sashimi was so good, hehe.

Ssamjang, minced garlic and mukeunji come with the takeout
This is the mixed sashimi (small) + mulhoe we had this time! Doesn't it look way more generous than last time?
They packed everything — mukeunji (aged kimchi), ssamjang (seasoned soybean paste), sushi rice, minced garlic, wrapping greens, rakkyo pickles, no shortage of anything. I love dipping sashimi in a mix of ssamjang, minced garlic, and sesame oil, and I was so happy I could make that even with takeout. Seriously, first sashimi place I've seen that gives you all this with takeout. Absolute GOAT.

How much mixed sashimi (small) feeds two, and how thick the slices are
Hoega's mixed sashimi (small) had a plenty generous portion for two people, and the quality felt fresher and tastier than last time. My friend said this is now the only Sokcho sashimi place we need.
Genuinely delicious. I'll admit it.

Sashimi places in tourist areas usually charge full price while giving you paper-thin slices that make you mad while eating — but Hoega's fish is cut thick, and they throw in plenty of chewy fin meat too, which I loved.

Hoega's mixed mulhoe: half noodles, half sashimi
And Hoega's mulhoe (spicy raw fish cold soup) is seriously next-level. I'm not exaggerating, it was really that good. Personally, I liked it even more than the mulhoe at Bongpo Meoguri-jip.
What really stood out was how much sashimi was packed in — basically half noodles, half fish — and the fish itself wasn't thin or flimsy at all; you could really feel the texture when you chewed it. I ate this the next day and it was still so good that I fished out every single piece of fish.
Next time I visit Hoega, I'm definitely ordering the mulhoe again.

How to cut the richness halfway through
One eating tip: once the sashimi starts feeling a bit rich, wrap it up with some Buldak Bokkeummyeon (spicy fire noodles). Works every time, lol.
Anyway, if you want sashimi takeout in Sokcho, go to Hoega. The fish is thick and the portions are generous, so I recommend it to anyone looking for good-value sashimi takeout.
This is now the only Sokcho sashimi place we need.
