Weekday evening mood and seating at the Seongsu branch
I visited on a weekday evening, and true to weekday form, most of the guests were office workers from nearby having a small after-work gathering.

The interior is cozy, decorated with about seven tables, giving it a snug hideout kind of vibe — not too crowded, and perfect for a small group chatting over drinks.

The basic side dishes were set out.

Grilling freshwater eel, pork belly and chicken neck over charcoal yourself
Then the freshwater eel, pork belly, and duck neck came out. This isn't a place where staff grill for you — you grill it yourself over charcoal. I actually found that more comfortable, since I could grill as much as I wanted to whatever doneness I liked.

Once you lay the meats on the charcoal one by one, they pick up a gentle smoky char as they cook to a mouthwatering finish.

Being able to grill not just eel but pork belly and duck neck all together meant I could enjoy a variety of items evenly, which I liked.

Grilled directly over the open charcoal flame, it came out crisp on the outside and moist inside.

The thick cuts, infused with a subtle charcoal aroma, tasted delicious and savory — living up to their status as the signature menu here.

Freshwater eel paired with bokbunja wine
I also tried the meat with bokbunja wine (Korean black raspberry wine), and the two went together really well.

Rather than just eating meat continuously, pairing it with bokbunja wine made the eel taste even better.

A bite of eel, a sip of bokbunja wine — my hand kept reaching for more. It was a combo that made the food disappear in no time, haha.

How were the pork belly and chicken neck meat?
Since it's an eel-grill restaurant, I honestly didn't expect much from the meat menu, but once I tried it, the pork belly was tasty too, and the quality of the meat dishes was better than I expected.

Among them, the duck neck was especially my thing. It had a chewy yet springy texture, and the seasoning wasn't overdone, so I kept going back for more.

I came for eel and didn't expect to leave having also thoroughly enjoyed pork belly and duck neck — being able to enjoy several different menu items together made it even more satisfying.

Side dishes and the self-bar at Songnim Bok
Rather than eating things plain, mixing in the basic side dishes — julienned ginger, perilla leaf pickles, fresh lettuce wraps — according to taste made the flavors and aroma come alive even more, which I liked.

Combining the basic side dishes (julienned ginger, perilla leaf pickles, fresh lettuce wraps) to your taste made things taste and smell better than eating plain. The side dishes were freely available at the self-bar.

If you ran low on side dishes, duck neck, pork belly, or eel, you could easily grab more from the self-bar.

The self-bar was kept neat and tidy, and everything was fully stocked with nothing missing.

Is Songnim Bok worth it for a small team dinner in Seongsu?
Eating here in person, the eel was tastier than I expected, and being able to enjoy the other meat dishes together made it satisfying. It was a good hearty meal after work, and with decent value for money, I thought it was a place worth visiting.
If you're craving eel and meat together, or looking for a group dinner spot near Seongsu, I recommend Songnim Bok Jangeo Seongsu Branch.
