Milyang pork BBQ restaurant with olive kimchi: kkodeul-mokal at Dotdot
In short
Dotdot Milyang Main Branch is a newly opened pork BBQ restaurant on Mirybeol-jungang-ro 5-gil in Samun-dong, Milyang, Gyeongnam. A couple visited on a Monday evening and ordered one serving of hangjeongsal (pork jowl), three servings of kkodeul-mokal (chewy pork neck), myeongnan mayo rice and cold kimchi noodles, and the free side dishes of melchoe (fermented anchovy dipping sauce) and olive kimchi were the most memorable part. For pork cuts beyond ogyeopsal and side dishes you won't find elsewhere, Dotdot Milyang Main Branch is a good fit.

My husband and I went out on a Monday evening for some good meat, and headed to Dotdot, a newly opened pork BBQ restaurant in Samun-dong, Milyang 🥩

Dotdot serves a variety of pork cuts, and even the side dishes that go with the meat are special, so we got to enjoy a really unusual combination of flavors.

If you've been looking for a good pork BBQ spot in Milyang, Dotdot is definitely worth keeping an eye on!

What is the dining room at Dotdot Milyang Main Branch like?
True to its status as a newly opened place in Samun-dong, Milyang, Dotdot is an overall very clean restaurant. It's not huge, but the tables are spaced generously so you can eat without feeling cramped!

Off to one side there's a self-serve bar stocked with vegetables, kimchi, sauces, olive kimchi and other sides to add to your meal.
Dotdot menu: which pork cuts can you order?
Dotdot offers a range of pork cuts including ogyeopsal (five-layer pork belly), kkodeul-mokal, and hangjeongsal. If you're looking for a good samgyeopsal spot in Milyang, you'll probably want to check the cuts first.

There are also rice and noodle dishes to pair with the meat, so it was easy to order a combo that suited our tastes. This time my husband and I ordered our two favorite pork cuts along with two meal dishes.

✔️ What we ordered: Hangjeongsal x1 + Kkodeul-mokal x2 + Kkodeul-mokal x1 more + Myeongnan mayo rice + Cold kimchi noodles
Melchoe and olive kimchi: the sides that steal the meal
After ordering our meat at Dotdot, the first thing that caught my eye was the basic side dishes. The melchoe and olive kimchi that came as standard sides here were especially special!

The olive kimchi 🫒 had a flavor totally different from regular kimchi, which made it all the more memorable. The kimchi cut through the fattiness of the meat while adding that distinctive olive flavor, which made eating the meat even more fun. Have a bite of meat, then some olive kimchi, and your mouth feels refreshed and clean — I kept reaching for more.
These two in particular were the combo I kept coming back to while eating.

The melchoe had an appealing umami that really brought out the savoriness of the meat. Enjoying the meat on its own and then dipping it lightly in melchoe added a salty, deep flavor that gave it a whole different character.
Tasting the kkodeul-mokal and hangjeongsal at Dotdot
At Dotdot, the first order has to be at least 3 servings, but you can mix and match one serving of each! Additional orders can be single servings too.

Kkodeul-mokal (chewy pork neck) dipped in melchoe
I usually love the distinctively chewy, springy texture of kkodeul-mokal and order it whenever it's on the menu. It has a different charm from regular pork neck, so it was a must-order again this time.
Kkodeul-mokal is characterized by a good balance of lean meat and fat, getting more savory the more you chew. It paired especially well with melchoe.

The savoriness of the meat itself, plus the salty umami of melchoe, made it delicious even without any extra seasoning. Adding some olive kimchi in between cut through the fattiness and made it easy to keep eating.

Hangjeongsal (pork jowl): marbling and a tender bite
Hangjeongsal is one of my favorite pork cuts anyway, thanks to its marbling and savory flavor. If kkodeul-mokal is great for its chewy texture, hangjeongsal is all about the rich, fatty savoriness and tender bite.

Grilled until golden brown, hangjeongsal gives you both a savory crust and a moist, tender interior for an even more delicious bite. The savoriness that builds the more you chew is the real charm, and it'll satisfy anyone who likes meat with just the right amount of fat.

How were the cold kimchi noodles and myeongnan mayo rice?
I like pairing meat with a refreshing noodle dish in between, so we ordered the cold kimchi noodles at Dotdot too. The tangy kimchi flavor combined with the cool broth made it a great pairing with the meat.
Taking a bite of noodles and going back to the meat felt like starting fresh each time, so switching between the two was fun in itself. If you always order naengmyeon or noodles at a BBQ restaurant, definitely try the cold kimchi noodles here too.
After eating savory meat, a sip of the cool broth left my mouth feeling clean and refreshed, which made everything taste even better.
The myeongnan mayo rice, with the salty umami of myeongnan (seasoned pollock roe), was a great pairing with the meat too.

The myeongnan mayo rice is good on its own, but personally I'd recommend topping it with a nicely grilled piece of meat.
Final verdict on Dotdot Milyang Main Branch
What stuck with me most from this visit were the basic side dishes — melchoe and olive kimchi. The taste of the meat itself matters, but the side dishes you pair it with can bring out a whole different charm, and Dotdot's special side dishes made a strong impression on me.
