Sokcho market deodeok dakgangjeong for a beach swim: Seomin Gapbu

Seomin Gapbu Sijang Dakjip (서민갑부 시장닭집) is a mostly takeout dakgangjeong (sweet, crispy Korean fried chicken) shop inside Sokcho Central Market in Sokcho, Gangwon, and its signature is deodeok dakgangjeong made with fresh deodeok (a mountain root), priced at 24,000 won. Instead of the famous Manseok Dakgangjeong, the writer took Seomin Gapbu's deodeok dakgangjeong to the beach in front of the accommodation and ate it between swims; it stayed crispy after the trip, with a subtle deodeok aroma. If Manseok Dakgangjeong is all you have tried, Seomin Gapbu Sijang Dakjip's deodeok dakgangjeong is worth a go.

Sokcho mulhoe shop: morning pickup for a Goseong BBQ night, Hwanggeum

Sokcho Hwanggeum Mulhoe Hoetjip (속초황금물회횟집) is a mulhoe (cold raw fish soup) restaurant about a 5-minute walk from Jungang Market in Sokcho, Gangwon. On a trip to Goseong with a friend couple, the writer stopped by in the morning, picked up Hwanggeum Mulhoe for 20,000 won to go, and ate it that evening with a barbecue. With a cooler bag, broth packed separately in a can-shaped container, and a clean taste with sea squirt and buckwheat noodles, Sokcho Hwanggeum Mulhoe Hoetjip was a satisfying takeout choice.

Mangwon course restaurant weekday birthday lunch: jambon roll, Noju

Noju is a course-meal restaurant on the second floor on Donggyo-ro 9-gil in Mangwon, Mapo-gu, Seoul. For a birthday, the writer booked Noju's weekday lunch course (55,000 won) and ate everything from focaccia, arancini, a zucchini jambon roll and anchovy tomato pasta to truffle gnocchi, Iberico pork and lemon sorbet, with a birthday message on the dessert. Noju's lunch course is worth recommending for a celebration meal in Mangwon when you want a polished course for around 50,000 won.

Yeonnam-dong date café with 1+1 Aperol Spritz happy hour: Pip

Pip Espresso Bar (피프에스프레소바) is an espresso bar and large café on Seongmisan-ro 29-gil in Yeonnam-dong, Mapo, Seoul, with open bar seating and wide outdoor tables. On a Yeonnam-dong date, the writer tried tiramisu, Triple Granita, an Aperol Spritz and a vanilla rooibos tea, and a weekday happy hour from 5 to 7 pm offered Aperol Spritz 1+1. For a Yeonnam-dong date that combines dessert, cocktails and a comfortable space, Pip Espresso Bar is a great fit.

Yeonnam-dong izakaya group set for 3-4 with bamboo views: Koma Yeonnam

Koma Yeonnam is a Japanese-style izakaya (Japanese pub) on basement level 1 off Yeonhui-ro 1-gil in Yeonnam-dong, Mapo, Seoul. Three friends ordered the Moim Hansang Koma Signature set (group spread for 3-4) of sashimi cake, charcoal-grilled wagyu, Koma oden, menchi-katsu and matcha cheese tofu, paired it with the Signature Sochu and highballs, and received tori karaage on the house. Thanks to the roomy bamboo-forest tables and polished food, Koma Yeonnam is a 200% revisit for group nights or dates in Yeonnam-dong.

Bas Burger Yonsei Cancer Hospital Branch is a handmade burger restaurant in the B1 arcade of Yonsei Cancer Hospital at Severance in Sinchon, Seodaemun, Seoul. For a quick dinner at Severance Hospital, the writer and a friend ordered a Hawaiian burger set and a sriracha burger set, swapping in sweet potato fries and Zero Coke, and dipped the sweet potato fries and potato chips in the free self-bar sauces. The verdict at Bas Burger Yonsei Cancer Hospital Branch: switch the side to sweet potato fries and pair them with Bas Burger sauce.

Corkage-free Mokdong gopchang: mixed for 2, whelk noodles, Omokgyo

Omokgyo Gopchang Mokdong Main Branch is a corkage-free gopchang (grilled beef small intestine) restaurant near Omokgyo Station in Yangcheon, Seoul. On a day the garlic gopchang was sold out, the writer ordered mixed gopchang for two and golbim noodles (spicy noodles loaded with whelk), then finished with fried rice topped with grilling cheese. With clean-tasting mixed gopchang, solid side dishes and free corkage, Omokgyo Gopchang Mokdong Main Branch is well worth a return visit for group dinners and dates.

Daeheung smash burger joint: jalapeño O.G Champion at Bored & Hungry

Bored & Hungry Mapo is an American-style smash burger restaurant on the ground floor of a building covered in a giant mural, near Exit 4 of Daeheung Station in Mapo, Seoul. The writer ordered the O.G Champion burger combo with ground jalapeños instead of pickles, the Shrimp O.G burger combo, corn ribs and a chili cheese bar. Thanks to the thick shrimp patty and the cheese-packed chili cheese bar, Bored & Hungry Mapo is a burger spot worth going back to.

Sanbon hair salon: men's semi leaf perm and layered cut, Urban Trend

Urban Trend Sanbon is a hair salon on the 4th floor of the Myeongnyun Jinsa Galbi building in Sanbon's central shopping district in Gunpo, Gyeonggi. After more than a month of growing out his hair, the writer got a light layered cut and a men's semi leaf perm done as an iron perm, with a massage machine during the neutralizing stage, all in about 2 hours, and a men's iron perm costs around ₩120,000. The style looked almost the same after washing the next day, making Urban Trend Sanbon a solid choice for a men's iron perm or leaf perm.
