This is my very satisfying record of finally saying goodbye to the frizzy curly hair that had bothered me for so long—and finding the hairstyle of my life!

I naturally have curly hair, and the curls around my bangs are especially strong, so I used to live with regular straightening treatmentsㅠㅠ As a result, the ends of my hair were as damaged as could be and incredibly dry. This time too, I wondered whether I should get root straightening again... After searching for a hair salon in Hannam-dong, I visited stylist Lee Hyeon at ONLY FOR YOU Hannam Main Branch!

The facilities were so nice, with big windows and such a bright, airy atmosphere! There were plenty of sofa seats in the waiting area too, and it felt comfortable enough to enjoy snacks and drinks.

A Vintage Perm Consultation for Natural Curls

Looking through stylist Lee Hyeon's reviews, I saw that she is known for slim, polished perms such as hush perms, C-curl perms, and sleek perms!! After a long consultation, I chose a style that would suit my natural curls while falling naturally at the ends. The hair I wanted, like in the photos below, was called a vintage perm! Actually, the person beside me had just finished a layered cut with C-curls, and it was so pretty that I debated it for quite a while..

My hair was so limp, and whenever it rained, my bangs would puff up and become uneven. It was so hard to manage, and even if I blow-dried it, it would fall flat again right away.. Let me show you the after first, right away!

On the day of the appointment, I had to rush out for a dinner reservation, so I did not even get styling done—I hurried out with my hair only half dry. I took these naturally at the restaurant! It was my first time trying this style, so it felt so unfamiliar at first,, but it was such a refreshing change and I loved it! And these photos were taken about a week later.

I let it dry naturally at home and just applied a little curl cream! It became healthy-looking, bouncy curly hair. Once I got used to it, I even thought, maybe I should have asked for my bangs to be curled tightly too, like in the reference photo! Hahaha. I love it so much, and my hair feels so light. Whether I put it in a messy bun or tie it back, the cute little curly flyaways make the style feel complete!!

The Process, From Consultation to Clinic Treatment

A Thorough, Detailed One-on-One Consultation

The thing that impressed me most on my first visit was stylist Lee Hyeon's detailed consultation! She looked at the condition of my hair with me and gave me plenty of time to think. I had gone in without even deciding whether to straighten or perm my hair, but she spent a long time giving me a detailed consultation that matched what I wanted.

Instead of continuing with straightening treatments, she suggested bringing out my natural curls with an all-over perm that would blend in naturally and be easy to manage! After much thought, I decided to try a new look with the vintage perm stylist Lee Hyeon recommended!

Cleansing Shampoo and a Customized Layered Cut

The first step was a cleansing shampoo! She said it was to wash away any styling products and buildup left in my hair, so she could accurately assess its real condition. My hair was already quite damaged, so we decided to add a clinic treatment as well!

Then we moved straight on to the cut. I had previously had a high layered cut, so I already had quite a lot of layers. She said reducing the layers slightly would look prettier with a vintage perm, so she trimmed about 3–5 cm from the ends. She was especially meticulous with texture work where I needed volume at the roots. Honestly, I loved the style even after just the cut and thought, “Oh? I could just leave like this!”

A Carefully Done Vintage Perm and a 40-Minute Post-Shampoo Clinic Treatment

Finally, the vintage perm began in earnest! Because my hair was quite damaged, she carefully adjusted the formula by mixing in plenty of protein so it would not be too harsh. She put so much effort into wrapping it firmly from roots to ends, and for more than two hours, I could really feel the care going into every single section.

After the perm, I moved to the shampoo room for a premium clinic treatment that took about 40 minutes. It was not simply a matter of applying products and finishing; she worked with her hands through several steps to help the active ingredients absorb deeply into the hair!

Easy Care Even After One Week

My hair was badly damaged and had been straightened before, so I worried whether the perm would take well... But the result was a total. success. 😭🎉 The vintage perm curls came out so bouncy that it was hard to believe this was formerly straightened hair! I was even amazed that it finished much more moisturized and glossy than before the appointment.

After the appointment, stylist Lee Hyeon also enthusiastically explained how to style it beautifully on my own at home! She recommended a mildly acidic shampoo, and when I mentioned that I swim, she explained the care routine even more thoroughly.

It has now been about a week since my vintage perm, and the curls are settling into an even more natural, prettier shape as time goes by. It is so, so easy to style in the morning that my getting-ready-for-work time has dropped dramatically!! The finish was 200% satisfying, just as much care as went into it.

If I had known it would turn out this well, I would have done it in summer much earlierㅠㅠ It would have been so nice because it looks pretty tied up too, and my hair feels light! I even love it after swimming and roughly drying it off~ From next year, I am definitely getting a perm before summer starts.
