Yeonnam-dong restaurant for spicy potato gnocchi: Rangteu Yeonnam

In short

Rangteu Yeonnam is a Western-style restaurant in Yeonnam-dong, Mapo, Seoul. I visited with a friend at 4:30 p.m. on a weekday and loved pairing the spicy potato gnocchi with the refreshing yuja spring greens pasta, both 18,900 won. Verdict: A relaxed, distinctive pasta meal worth trying in Yeonnam-dong.

How to get to Rangteu Yeonnam from Hongik Univ. Station

I recently went to Rangteu Yeonnam near Hongik Univ. Station with a friend, and I was so happy with it that I had to leave a review. I think lots of people are looking for good pasta spots in Yeonnam-dong these days, so I’ll share the details.

📍 Location: 1.5F, 22-30 Yanghwa-ro 19-gil, Mapo-gu, Seoul. It is only about a 110 m walk from Exit 3 of Hongik Univ. Station. To get there, come out of Exit 3 on Subway Line 2 and walk straight along Gyeongui Line Forest Park for about 70 m. Turn into the alley on the left by the GS25 convenience store, then go 30 m ahead and head up to the 1.5th floor of the building on the left. Since it is tucked inside an alley, it can be a little confusing at first, but just look for the yellow LANGT sign and go up.

An interior with plants and soft lighting

Green plants are placed throughout, so it almost feels like a café. The white tables paired with black metal chairs look clean and stylish, and the soft lighting makes it great for photos too.

The space is divided into two main areas, and I sat in the inner section. It felt cozier and quieter there, which made it easy to talk. There was also a bag holder, which was a small but convenient touch. When there is no bag holder and the space is cramped too, that can be pretty awkward, you know?

The tables are spaced generously, so you can eat and chat comfortably without worrying about the next table. I also pay quite a lot of attention to restroom conditions when I go to a restaurant. If a restroom is not clean, it puts me off before I have even started eating, right? The restroom here was well maintained too, which I appreciated. I think little details like these quietly make a big difference in whether I want to return.

I visited around 4:30 p.m. on a weekday, and perhaps because of the time, there were hardly any people, so we could really take our time. The sky was blue, the heat had eased up, the weather was just perfect, and my friend was having such a great time too—maybe that is why the food tasted even better.

Ordering potato gnocchi and yuja spring greens pasta

Honestly, while looking at the menu, everything looked delicious—from the Cajun ragù pasta and sous-vide short rib risotto to the sous-vide pork belly steak—so I debated for a while. In the end, we ordered these two dishes: potato gnocchi and yuja spring greens pasta. They were ₩18,900 each.

Potato gnocchi with spice softened by richness

This dish has the signature chewy texture of potato gnocchi and a deep cheesy flavor. It has a little spice from gochujang (Korean red chili paste), but the potato and cheese mellow it out, so it is not overwhelming—just the kind of flavor that keeps you reaching for another bite.

It felt like exactly the kind of dish that would be a hit with women in their twenties. Even people who are not great with spicy food should be able to enjoy it without much 부담. Maybe that is why I liked the gnocchi even more than the pasta.

Yuja spring greens pasta for a refreshing finish

The yuja spring greens pasta has a fairly bold sauce, with a bright, refreshing yuja aroma. Topped with spring greens and shrimp, it looks pretty and feels fresh too.

It was especially good alongside the potato gnocchi. After a bite of spicy gnocchi, the refreshing pasta worked like a palate cleanser, so I totally recommend ordering the two together. The fried lotus root on top of the pasta was also crispy and nutty—a lovely extra treat.

A relaxed meal in Yeonnam-dong

Overall, it was such a satisfying meal: the interior was neat, the tables were well spaced, the restroom was nicely maintained, and most of all, both dishes were well executed :) The flavors are distinctive without being overly intense, making this a place I already want to revisit. If you are looking for a good pasta restaurant in Yeonnam-dong, especially if you are a woman in your twenties, I think this will suit your taste—I can confidently recommend it!!
