Paju café with floor-to-ceiling windows: mango bingsu, Fruit Forest

In short

Fruit Forest Paju Direct Store is a fresh-fruit bingsu (shaved ice dessert) café on Dolgoji-gil in Paju, Gyeonggi, near Simhaksan and Paju Book City. On a weekday evening with kids, the writer took a floor-to-ceiling window seat to watch the sunset over a fresh mango snow bingsu, with big pieces of mango covering the ice completely plus ice cream and cheese cubes. Sweet mango over soft milk-ice, with mango sauce stirred in partway through for a second flavour, made the visit worth it.

Fresh mango snow bingsu, the signature dish at Fruit Forest Paju Direct Store

Piled high with fresh mango — Fruit Forest Paju Direct Store.

On hot days like these, all you can think about is a cold bowl of bingsu (shaved ice dessert). This time I went to Fruit Forest Paju Direct Store, known as one of the best bingsu spots in Paju.

Exterior of Fruit Forest Paju Direct Store with the 'sanctuary of mango bingsu' sign

Right on the storefront, in big letters: "the sanctuary of mango bingsu"! With a sign like that, how could I not try it haha. Walking in, the mango was genuinely stacked to the ceiling — mounds of yellow, ripe mango everywhere. So there was no debate — my family went straight for the mango bingsu. From the sweet fresh mango to the soft milk ice, we all had a great time eating with the kids. Here's my review of Fruit Forest Paju Direct Store. :)

Where is Fruit Forest Paju Direct Store, and what about parking and hours?

Fruit Forest Paju Direct Store sits near Simhaksan and Paju Book City, open daily from 10:00 to 21:00. There are lots of good restaurants around Simhaksan and the Lotte Outlet, so it's a great dessert café to hit after a meal.

The exterior stands out on its own — with a photo of mango bingsu and the big "sanctuary of mango bingsu" text, it wasn't hard to find at all. There's a parking space on the building's 1st floor, so it was easy to visit by car. We came on a weekday and it was fairly relaxed, but apparently on weekends the crowds chasing Paju's famous bingsu get pretty big — they even have a dedicated parking attendant on weekends, so keep that in mind if you're visiting then.

Walking into Fruit Forest: a counter piled with fresh fruit

The first thing that caught my eye walking into Fruit Forest Paju Direct Store was the fruit. So much gorgeous mango haha.

Yellow mangoes filled the shelves, and there was a big pile next to the counter too — I was excited before I'd even ordered. The refrigerated display case also had peaches, melon, oranges, grapes, watermelon, pineapple, and more, and it looked like some of the fruit could be bought separately.

I visited during peach season, so the peaches looked just as tempting. Came for the bingsu, ended up lost in fruit-gazing haha.

Floor-to-ceiling window seats at sunset and seating with kids

The interior of Fruit Forest Paju Direct Store is clean overall, and the tables aren't crammed together. There's sofa seating for groups too. The big picture windows especially made the space feel cool and open. Since I visited around evening, I could even watch the sunset through the windows — the mood was really nice.

There's a small Fruit Forest photo zone in one corner, painted with colorful fruit and trees — a perfect fit for the name, and a good spot for a picture. High chairs are also available, so it seemed fine to visit with young kids.

Fresh mango snow bingsu at Fruit Forest: mango covering every inch

A bowl of Fruit Forest's fresh mango snow bingsu

Fruit Forest has several kinds of bingsu, but we ordered the fresh mango snow bingsu — if you're at a place famous for mango bingsu, you've got to try it haha.

Wow... in person, the mango was even more generous than in the photos I'd seen.

Thick slices of fresh mango wrapped around the bingsu, covering nearly every inch. The color alone looked so delicious that I photographed it thoroughly before eating haha. On top of the mango: a big scoop of ice cream and cheese cubes!

I meant to try the ice cream first, but the kids ate so fast that by the time I looked up, I'd only managed one bite.🤣 Still, watching them race each other with their spoons is proof enough it was good haha. But what I loved most was, of course, the fresh mango! I took a scoop and it was so sweet — ripe, soft, moist, and melting the moment it hit my mouth.

The mango's fragrance was strong and distinct too, so mango lovers will be satisfied. The ice inside was fine, soft milk ice, which tasted even better scooped up together with the mango. Sweet mango and soft milk ice — how could that combination not be delicious haha.

When is the best time to add the mango sauce?

Partway through, when you're craving a stronger mango flavor, pour on the mango sauce that comes with it!

Rather than pouring it all on from the start, I'd recommend eating the fresh mango and bingsu first, then adding the sauce partway through. Eaten plain, you get the natural sweetness of the fresh mango; add the sauce, and the sweetness and mango flavor deepen into a whole different experience. A bite of fresh mango with a heaping scoop of soft milk ice. Even looking back at the photos now, I want to eat it again haha.

Fruit Forest Paju prices and final verdict

With so much mango piled on, I wondered at first if the price would be a bit steep, but after tasting it — the amount of fresh mango, its sweetness, the overall quality — I understood why it's famous for mango bingsu.

If you're craving a cold bingsu this summer and looking for a Paju spot to properly enjoy sweet fresh mango, Fruit Forest Paju Direct Store's mango bingsu is worth trying. It worked well for eating with kids, and would be just as nice for a date. :)
