Yeonnam-dong basil pesto and shakshuka at Pastiar, Seoul restaurant

In short

Pastiar is a homemade-style Italian restaurant in Mapo, Seoul, serving pasta, rice bowls, and shakshuka. We ordered shakshuka, grilled pork-neck cube steak rice bowl, and basil pesto pasta by the window, and the fresh basil aroma and tender pork stood out. Verdict: a cozy choice for dates, solo lunches, or a relaxed meal with friends.

I visited Pastiar, a great pasta spot in Yeonnam-dong! My friend and I found this newly opened restaurant while searching for a nice place with a good atmosphere in Yeonnam-dong.

Pastiar location and visit information

Pastiar is a newly opened Yeonnam pasta spot where everything is made in a homemade style, so you can taste the freshness of the ingredients. I heard it is a Western dining brand that combines English and French, carrying on the sensibility of PASTA, TEA, SAVIOR1983.

It is an 11-minute walk from Exit 2 of Hongik University Station. From Yeontral Park, go into the alley opposite Randy’s Donuts and it is easy to find. The area is busy with restaurants, but the sign stands out, so it was easy to spot.

I went up to the second floor of the Suragan building.

A window seat that feels like an Italian resort

The interior was neat and comfortable, decorated to feel like an Italian resort. 🍋 It made me think of Amalfi! Since it opens early in the morning, we were the first guests.

The weather had turned cool, so we sat by the window.

Pastiar signature dishes

  • The signature dishes are sous-vide steak and an aged salmon plate.
  • The popular ragù pasta is simmered in-house with care for more than three hours every day. It is said to have a deep, rich flavor without any gamey meat smell, plus a subtle herb aroma.
  • The bulgogi cream pasta is a signature dish of Seoul-style bulgogi stir-fried with a rich cream sauce, said to bring Korean sensibility and classic Italian cooking together.
  • Dinner options include cheese potato pancake, tomato-cheese buldak, gambas al ajillo, and hangover pasta.

A meal with both rice and pasta

We ordered a good mix of rice and pasta dishes!

Shakshuka made for baguette

This is shakshuka, which many people know as eggs in hell.

Tomato sauce shakshuka

It has pepperoni and eggs in tomato sauce.

It had just come out, so the cheese stretched beautifully.

Shakshuka has to be piled onto baguette, right? ❤️ It was a lovely starter.

I mixed in the raw onion and vegetables, then tried it with the wasabi served alongside.

It had a pleasing smoky char, and the pork neck was incredibly tender.

Fragrant fresh-basil oil pasta

This is an oil pasta with pesto made from fresh basil.

Oil pasta bursting with the fresh, fragrant aroma of basil is delicious every time. The pasta was cooked to an easy-to-eat texture and went down so smoothly. We usually order about three dishes between the two of us, and this combination worked so well.

From dates to solo meals

There are lots of great pasta places in Yeonnam-dong, but I recommend Pastiar if you want that fresh, homemade taste! The space is cozy with a lovely atmosphere, making it easy to talk on a date or blind date, and it would also be nice to go with a group and order a variety of delicious dishes. I even saw people dining alone at lunch. If you are always on the hunt for good Yeonnam-dong restaurants, remember Pastiar.
