Gaepo-dong café with parking and egg mayo sandwich brunch: Minimale

In short

Minimale Bakery & Coffee Bar Gaepo Branch is a bakery café tucked into a quiet residential alley in Gaepo-dong, Gangnam, Seoul, with parking spaces behind the building. Before an early-morning checkup at Samsung Medical Center, a couple stopped in and ordered two Helsinki lattes, an egg mayo sandwich and a cream castella. If you love lattes, the Helsinki latte at Minimale Gaepo is worth a taste.

I had a checkup coming up at Samsung Medical Center, so I left home early in the morning. With a little time before my appointment, my husband and I stopped by for brunch and coffee at Minimale Bakery & Coffee Bar Gaepo Branch.

I'd heard for a while that their signature Helsinki latte was delicious, and since it happened to be on the way to the hospital, I finally got to try it. My husband and I tend to prefer lattes over Americanos, so I had high expectations for the coffee that day.

Where do you park at Minimale in Gaepo-dong?

Minimale Gaepo Branch sits in a quiet residential alley on Gaepo-ro 22-gil in Gangnam-gu, Seoul. There's a parking space behind the café building, which was really convenient for us since we drove.

After parking and stepping inside, the smell of freshly baked bread filled the space even early in the morning. Some customers were already enjoying brunch, and the overall atmosphere was quiet and warm — a nice place to relax with coffee and bread in the morning.

Browsing the bread, I ended up wanting more than I expected, so I spent a while deciding, haha.

That day we ordered

  • 2 Helsinki lattes
  • Egg mayo sandwich
  • Cream castella

and that was it.

How does Minimale's Helsinki latte actually taste?

I took a sip of the Helsinki latte first, since I was the most curious about it. A gentle sweetness hit first, followed by the deep flavor of the coffee beans blending smoothly with nutty, creamy milk. The sweetness wasn't so strong that it masked the coffee — instead, the milk wrapped the bold coffee flavor in something soft and mellow.

It suited my husband's and my taste for lattes really well. Tasting it myself, I understood why so many people come to Minimale specifically for the Helsinki latte.

The egg mayo sandwich that vanished in minutes

My husband had ordered the egg mayo sandwich, and something funny happened. I stepped away to the restroom for a moment, and when I came back, he had already finished the entire sandwich.

I was waiting to try a bite too!

I said — but he'd eaten the whole thing without a single word of offering me a bite. I laughed for a while, wondering just how good it must have been, haha.

Just as we were about to properly dig into the cream castella, the hospital called. They asked us to come in a bit earlier than our reservation for pre-exam prep. In the end, we asked them to pack up the leftover dessert to go.

Soft, lightly sweet cream castella

As soon as we got in the car, I tried the packed cream castella from Minimale Gaepo Branch. The castella sponge wasn't dry at all — it was moist, and the cream inside was soft.

Best of all, it wasn't artificially sweet — it had a clean, mild sweetness. Cream that's too sweet gets old after a few bites, but this one wasn't overwhelming, so it went well with coffee too.

Why we want to return to Minimale Gaepo unhurried

This time, having to leave suddenly for my checkup at Samsung Medical Center left me a little wistful. Next time, I'd like to visit with more time to spare and slowly try the bakery items and sandwiches we missed.

If you're looking for a Gaepo-dong café with easy parking and a quiet atmosphere for bread and coffee, Minimale Gaepo Branch seems like a solid choice. If you're a latte lover like me, the Helsinki latte is worth trying. We rushed through this visit, but it's a place I'd love to sit down and properly enjoy next time.
