Gangnam bakery café for early-morning salt bread: Minimale

My husband and I came out early in the morning for a leisurely cup of coffee. I was luckily selected for a review experience, so we happily visited this bakery café that is said to be hot for its coffee and bread.

A simple, modern exterior

The building itself gave off such a clean, modern feel. Through the large windows, I could take in the airy interior at a glance. There was room for about two cars beside the shop, which made it convenient to come by car, too. There really are not many cafés in Gangnam with free parking, so I loved that!

The moment we stepped inside, the nutty scent of baking bread filled the whole shop. One side had a proper, professional baking space, so it was fun to look around. The smell of freshly baked bread mingling with the coffee aroma from this Yangjaecheon café had my mouth watering all by itself.

The signature Helsinki Latte I ordered had pretty layers of milk and weighty espresso. One sip and its nutty, sweet flavor simply melted across my mouth. It really was the distinctive Yangjaecheon café coffee people talk about, with a memorable depth, and my husband was very pleased too.

When I cut into the bread with a fork and knife, the salt bread revealed its fluffy crumb and clear butter pockets. The babka was crisp and layered on the outside, while inside it was richly blended with chocolate, so there was no chance of getting tired of it. Both the bread and drinks were high quality, with textures that were more than satisfying even as a breakfast substitute.

Chatting away while eating, my husband and I ended up clearing every plate and cup—it was that good. This was a place that gave us both a pleasant sense of richness and coziness, so we made the most of our morning. The next time we come out for a walk around Yangjaecheon, I naturally want to stop by again and try other breads.
