Gangnam bakery café for early-morning salt bread: Minimale

In short

Minimale Bakery & Coffee Bar Gaepo Branch is a bakery café in Gangnam, Seoul. My husband and I had salt bread, chocolate babka, an Americano, and a Helsinki Latte by the window early in the morning. Verdict: a lovely stop before or after a Yangjaecheon walk.

My husband and I came out early in the morning for a leisurely cup of coffee. I was luckily selected for a review experience, so we happily visited this bakery café that is said to be hot for its coffee and bread.

A simple, modern exterior

The building itself gave off such a clean, modern feel. Through the large windows, I could take in the airy interior at a glance. There was room for about two cars beside the shop, which made it convenient to come by car, too. There really are not many cafés in Gangnam with free parking, so I loved that!

The moment we stepped inside, the nutty scent of baking bread filled the whole shop. One side had a proper, professional baking space, so it was fun to look around. The smell of freshly baked bread mingling with the coffee aroma from this Yangjaecheon café had my mouth watering all by itself.

Dessert and bakery selections

There was such a wide variety of desserts, neatly displayed beside the counter. Everything—from babka and salt bread to egg tarts—looked delicious with its golden-baked finish. The drink menu was also laid out clearly at a glance, making it easy to choose whatever suited your taste.

A morning moment by the window

We settled into seats by the window, and it was an absolutely perfect spot for relaxing while looking out at the view. When the drinks and bread arrived on the table, they looked amazing from the start.

The salt bread and babka pairing

Salt bread with chocolate babka

The freshly served salt bread and babka coated in rich chocolate immediately caught my eye. Their glossy surfaces and deep, nutty gourmet-butter flavor had my expectations soaring.

How was the iced Americano?

Refreshing iced Americano

The refreshing Americano my husband chose really stood out for its clean bean flavor, without any off notes. It went down smoothly with a pleasantly bitter edge, making it an ideal match for sweet baked goods. If you visit, I definitely recommend starting with the coffee at this Yangjaecheon café.

A sweet, rich Helsinki Latte

Helsinki Latte with espresso layers

The signature Helsinki Latte I ordered had pretty layers of milk and weighty espresso. One sip and its nutty, sweet flavor simply melted across my mouth. It really was the distinctive Yangjaecheon café coffee people talk about, with a memorable depth, and my husband was very pleased too.

Bread with a crisp outside and soft center

Cut-open salt bread and babka

When I cut into the bread with a fork and knife, the salt bread revealed its fluffy crumb and clear butter pockets. The babka was crisp and layered on the outside, while inside it was richly blended with chocolate, so there was no chance of getting tired of it. Both the bread and drinks were high quality, with textures that were more than satisfying even as a breakfast substitute.

Finishing every last bite

Empty bread plate and coffee cups

Chatting away while eating, my husband and I ended up clearing every plate and cup—it was that good. This was a place that gave us both a pleasant sense of richness and coziness, so we made the most of our morning. The next time we come out for a walk around Yangjaecheon, I naturally want to stop by again and try other breads.
