Looking for a café near Yangjae Citizens' Forest Station

I had somewhere to be in Yangjae and was looking for a place to grab coffee when I realized the main branch of the famous Mini Male Coffee Roasters was nearby, so I decided to check it out.

I'd seen the name pop up often but never visited the flagship, so I was curious — and honestly a bit surprised by how many customers were already there in the morning!

Friday 9:40am — what's the vibe?

I arrived around 9:40am on a Friday.

Since it was pretty early, I figured I'd have plenty of room to sit comfortably, but that assumption was completely wrong.

Store crowded with customers having coffee on a Friday morning

Office workers from nearby kept streaming in for takeout coffee, and plenty of people like me were also settling into seats to drink their coffee in.

Seeing this many people so early made me think this must already be one of the go-to spots among Yangjae cafés.

Order counter with kiosk

Still, tables turned over fairly quickly, and with a kiosk available, ordering didn't feel complicated at all.

It seemed like a good spot to grab a coffee before work, or to stop by for an early morning meeting or a relaxed solo coffee, since it opens early.

The signature Helsinki Latte, served warm

While debating what to order, I took a recommendation and went with Mini Male's signature menu item, the Helsinki Latte.

I heard the Helsinki Latte is a signature drink that the owner recreated with Mini Male's own recipe after encountering a similar latte on a trip to Helsinki, Finland.

A cup of the signature Helsinki Latte

It's known for its rich milk flavor and smooth taste, and it's not overly sweet.

They recommended having it warm since it tastes better that way, so I went with the warm Helsinki Latte too.

It was really good for the morning.

It's not overly sweet, more the kind of latte where you can comfortably enjoy the smooth, nutty flavor of the milk — which meant it paired really well with dessert.

I meant to buy just one scone but picked three

Since I was planning to have coffee and a scone instead of breakfast that day, I picked out a dessert too.

At first I only meant to get the Victoria scone, you know?

But once I was looking at the display case, the plain scone looked too good to skip, and I couldn't walk past the handmade original levain cookie either.

In the end I ended up picking all three — the Victoria scone, the plain scone, and the original levain.

Victoria Scone

The Victoria scone is a British-style scone with the flavor of fresh cream, sandwiched with cream and strawberry jam.

With the cream and jam added, it definitely felt more like a proper dessert than a plain scone, and it paired well with the warm Helsinki Latte.

Plain Scone

The plain scone is apparently a traditional British-style scone — crisp on the outside, moist on the inside.

With no flashy toppings, it's about as basic as it gets, which made it easy to pair lightly with coffee.

You get the nutty flavor of butter and the subtle richness of cream, so if you just love scones on their own, the plain scone would be a great pick.

The original levain cookie is loaded with dark chocolate chips and walnuts.

Biting into the dense cookie with chocolate and nutty walnuts, this was a flavor that basically demands coffee haha.

Of course, I couldn't finish all of that sitting alone, so I packed up the leftover desserts to bring home.

I wondered at first if I'd gone overboard, but they were still delicious later, so I didn't regret picking so many.

Why it's busy from the morning

Personally, I understood pretty well why Mini Male Coffee Roasters Yangjae Main Branch already has so many customers starting at 9am.

It's great for a quick takeout coffee on the way to work, and also good for sitting down like I did to have a warm latte and dessert as a simple breakfast.

I'd especially recommend the Helsinki Latte to anyone who prefers a basic latte with smooth, nutty coffee and milk flavor over a sweet, syrup-heavy one.

With scones and levain cookies too, there's a good variety of desserts, which was nice for when just coffee alone feels like it's not quite enough.

Closing shot of Mini Male Coffee Roasters Yangjae Main Branch

I went out of curiosity since it's the main branch of a famous Yangjae café, and I left satisfied — lively morning atmosphere, great coffee, and great desserts all around at Mini Male Coffee Roasters Yangjae Main Branch!

Next time I'm in Yangjae, I'd love to stop by again for another Helsinki Latte :)
