Night-view pasta dinner on Hwangnidang-gil, Gyeongju: Midam Kitchen
In short
Midam Kitchen is a pizza and pasta restaurant on Cheomseongno 49beon-gil in the Hwangnidang-gil area of Gyeongju, with a hanok tiled roof outside and a modern interior of exposed concrete and white tones. On an evening visit, a whole quattro cheese pizza, beef brisket oil pasta and basil oil pasta topped with whole shrimp were ordered from the table tablet and eaten beside a floor-to-ceiling window looking out on the traditional street at night. The cheese-and-honey pairing and the plump shrimp stood out, making Midam Kitchen worth booking as the last meal of a Gyeongju trip.

The real joy of a Gyeongju trip is hunting down the pretty, delicious restaurants tucked into the alleys of Hwangnidang-gil. Walking around for dinner, I stopped in my tracks, drawn in by Midam Kitchen's exterior — warm light spilling out from under a traditional tiled hanok roof. From the outside it's all elegant hanok mood, but the second you open the door, a hip, modern interior appears, and that reversal is such a delightful surprise.
Midam Kitchen, a Hwangnidang-gil favorite, doesn't serve the usual Korean food — instead it's distinctive Western dishes like a whole quattro cheese pizza and deeply savory beef brisket oil pasta. Great atmosphere plus polished food has made it especially popular among the currently-hot Gyeongju Hwangnidang-gil restaurants, so I had high expectations before even walking in.

Hanok roof outside, modern concrete inside: the Midam Kitchen space

Walk leisurely down the Hwangnidang-gil alleys and you'll easily spot Midam Kitchen's building, glowing brightly through its huge floor-to-ceiling windows. The open, airy glass facade naturally catches the eyes of passersby.

Push open the clear glass door and step inside, and you'll properly experience that hip feel where rough exposed concrete meets clean white walls in an oddly perfect match.

The modern comfort throughout is a total departure from the grand hanok feel outside. There are also thoughtfully arranged private room-style group tables where you can dine quietly without disturbing others, making it very popular for small gatherings too.

There are also cleanly separated men's and women's restrooms inside, which made the whole visit very convenient. With its overall clean, modern interior, it seems just as fitting for a couple's date as for a get-together with friends.
Three dishes ordered from the table tablet

Every table has a tablet menu installed for easy ordering and payment, so even during busy hours you can leisurely choose whatever you want without flagging down staff. We generously ordered the whole quattro cheese pizza that visitors here rave about, the spicy-savory beef brisket oil pasta, and the basil oil pasta topped with whole shrimp.

Quattro cheese pizza with honey
The pizza arrived first, four kinds of cheese melted generously edge to edge — its golden-brown look alone was eye-catching.

Above all, Midam Kitchen seems to use genuinely good cheese for its pizza. Anyone who's tried it will feel it — the cheese is just so good +_+ Its deep, salty flavor paired with thin almond slices scattered on the dough for a nutty sweetness, and with a light drizzle of the honey served alongside, it became one of those addictive flavors you never get tired of.

Beef brisket oil pasta
Next up, the beef brisket pasta had tender, richly marbled brisket and chewy noodles pairing perfectly with a spicy oil sauce.

The savory meat aroma, gentle spiciness, and a generous dusting of salty cheese powder came together to keep the oil sauce from feeling heavy, making it clean-tasting and addictive.

Basil oil pasta with whole shrimp
Last was the basil oil pasta, where fragrant, fresh basil pesto soaked deeply into every strand of noodle for a mouthful of freshness.

The shrimp on top, in particular, was grilled large and plump — heavy enough on the fork that you could feel its weight — and its firm, springy texture paired beautifully with the basil.

From the neat utensil setting labeled 'one meal' to the clean plating, the details of these Western dishes served in such a stylish space exceeded expectations — a real Gyeongju Hwangnidang-gil restaurant find.
Gyeongju night views through the floor-to-ceiling window

Finishing a hearty, delicious meal while watching the beautiful, quiet traditional street at night through the clear glass window melted away a whole day's travel fatigue.

The varied dishes enjoyed at leisure inside this sleek, modern interior showed off a taste and quality that people of any age would appreciate without a single complaint.

A slice of the quattro cheese pizza with its salty, rich cheese flavor, the plump basil shrimp, and the beef brisket oil pasta bursting with savory depth — it was such a satisfying meal that our forks simply wouldn't stop.

Next trip, I definitely want to stop by Midam Kitchen again with family and my partner and share this charming, cozy hanok atmosphere all over again.
A true Gyeongju Hwangnidang-gil restaurant that satisfied every sense, delighting both the eyes and the mouth — Midam Kitchen♥ If you want great Western food set in an elegant hanok atmosphere, I strongly recommend this place. That's all, bye~~*
